So after you beat story and have completed all the white mage job quests, I believe you have to complete them, you will be given a quest for your relic weapon. Now the first part is easy...just open a chest in some mines....the next part however requires you to obtain a lvl 50 rod that can only be made by an alchemist. The rod is http://xivdb.com/?item/2049/Madman's-Whispering-Rod, the recipe is level 55, apparently you can make it at lvl 47 alchemy, so if you want to make your relic weapon on your own you will have to get alchemy to that level. You can also try to find someone who has alchemy that high and hope they will make it for you without you losing your house, car, kids, significant other.

On ultros I found someone selling this rod but it was going for ~170k gil...this price should go down as more people can make it but it will probably still be extremely expensive. I should have made this post when I still had access to the game so I could check out more info but hopefully this helps someone out there.

If you got any WHM questions feel free to ask and hopefully I can give you the answer you want.

You forgot that you also need 2 x Materia III (depends on job) melded to that staff.

The staff would decrease in price a lot, it's relatively very simple to make and the only "hard" material drop from dungeon which people would undoubtedly grind day in day out and spam the market with it (Champion Lance was 300k the first few days due to Relic requirement change, now 15k a piece on Masamune).

Just FYI, that's like 2nd step of 14 steps. Lots more to come.

Oh I know its early in the process but wanted to just put out what I knew and hopefully get others to put more input. And yea I forgot about the materia but for whm it just says materia melded so I'm guessing we will be fine for 1 meld. Quest didn't specify on how many materia it needed I believe....again wish I could be on to check the specifics. After you get the weapon made I was told you need to do an 8 man instance that you can't queue up with Duty Finder.

Also prices are going to vary greatly from server to server. Ultros isn't a legacy server so most people don't even have a level 30 crafting class yet but I do expect prices for items to go down.

You need double melded staff, which is easy since the staff itself has 3 safe slots.

Dhorme Chimera is nasty, luckily all you need to do is just fight it in the instance, don't have to go through dungeon. That's only the first of the many 8 men instances you will have to do. I haven't finished Main Story yet but I've been in Dhorme Chimera fight.
