Wowhead - Cahce issuesFollow

#1 Sep 04 2012 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
I have been having problems with WoWhead rendering pages correctly. I can see all ads, but none of the menus or the page content.

I have experienced this at home on 2 PCs using IE9, Chrome and Firefox and clearing the cache each time I access Wowhead fixes the problem on all browsers. The PCs are running Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Vista 32 bit OS but both are using MS Security Essentials. Chrome has a flashblock but I allow wowhead to display flash. Firefox and IE are used simply for testing issues with websites and therefore are plugin free.

I also have this on my work laptop both from home and the office again using all 3 browsers. I am restricted a bit at work because there is an adblock on the domain that cannot be disabled but clearing cache on IE8 resolves the issue but using Chrome and Firefox the problem persists.

I have used Wowhead for 4-5 years without issue and nothing has changed at my end for the past 12 months.

What can I do to resolve?

Seems CTRL & F5 has fixed this. But why after all this time am I having to do this on all computers I use? Nothing has changed on all 3 PCs I use that would cause such errors as this.

What likely happened is that something was coded incorrectly on wowhead, due to an error, or a server glitch, at a time you happened to view the page with all computers (suggesting it was a glitch for longer than just a few seconds) The page cached the bad version, or recached it at whatever interval you have set, and happened to unfortunatly use get the bad cache, which remained intact until you flushed it. The other possibility is that the cache you downloaded was fine, but your hard drive isn't. If your drive is experiancing errors due to impending hardware failure (drives last on average 5 years) or some unwanted program doing unfortunate things to your machine, the cache is one of the first things that gets corrupted since that particular drive segment is visited so often due to page loads, refreshes, etc. You may want to consider downloading the free "speedfan" utility and looking at the S.M.A.R.T error section for your main drive to see how healthy your drive is to eliminate that as a suspect if nothing else.

I have got this problem again.

Once more the issue is affecting all my installed browsers IE, Firefow and Chrome. 3 PCs with 3 OSs Win7 64, Win7 32 and Vista 32 and on 2 different ISP connections.

Clearing cache, forcing cache clear by CTRL+F5 has failed and setting network.http.sendRefererHeader to 2 on FF also failed.

The only thing consistant about this appears to be that it is only happening to people in certian geographic locations. Possibly related to the advertising being displayed? All I know is so far there has been difficulty duplicating it on the wowhead people side of things.

More info that may help.
Chrome: http://a.yfrog.com/img532/31/5jloxb.jpg
IE: http://a.yfrog.com/img616/7789/a8qjtq.jpg
Firefox: http://a.yfrog.com/img532/7131/ra4ya.jpg

I am based in the UK and all previous fix resolutions have been tried and failed clearing cache, CTRL+F5, reboot routers, different PCs (x3), different OS (x3) different ISPs (x2).

And now all is good again, which does seem to suggest something temporary on the site that breaks it which the diagnosis of regional advertising seems to fit rather well. Annoying as that is I guess there is no workable fix beyond me moving or the site going subscription based to allow it to be ad-free.

I've been having this problem too since last night. Site doesn't work in IE, FF, or Chrome. Disabled all browser addons. Deleted cache/cookies/history in all 3 browsers multiple times. Restarted computer multiple times. My computer is brand new and has no HDD problems.

This is getting REALLY irritating. I would be using a competitor's website if there were such a thing. FIX IT!!!

LOL sure, blame it on the people with add block. What about people who access it with zero addons installed? Nice try. If I could get a garauntee that wowhead wont display any more pop out adds then I might consider disabling add block but I'm not really interested in ******** with that EVER again, so i'd rather just not see them at all, I never clicked on them in the past any ways.

The problem is definitely on wowhead's side. Used to be that clearing all saved browser data would fix it, but that doesn't seem to work any more.

I tried accessing it from my phone (LOL no add block there buddy) and it still didn't work right.

That attitude isn't really helpful at all. He isn't even pointing out adblock as the culprit. Besides it wouldn't make sense as people are having issues with different browsers on different computers. Also if you want to use adblock it's your choice but you should know that they get paid for views, so the argument that "I never click on them anyways" is just wrong and stupid.

It can't be the advertising as I am a premium user and don't get ad's. And it still doesn't work for me. Annoying as heck.

And this is from running the debug in IE 10..

SCRIPT5009: 'Markup' is undefined
www.wowhead.com, line 85 character 1
SCRIPT5009: 'Markup' is undefined
www.wowhead.com, line 99 character 1
HTML1509: Unmatched end tag.
www.wowhead.com, line 108 character 1
SCRIPT5009: 'PageTemplate' is undefined
www.wowhead.com, line 109 character 1
SCRIPT5009: 'g_trackEvent' is undefined
www.wowhead.com, line 134 character 9
SCRIPT5009: 'Menu' is undefined
home.js, line 1 character 30

Can someone pass along the errors to wowhead as I can't click a single link there. Not even feedback is a normal link. It uses javascript aswell. And all their javascript is fuxored for me atm.

Hello There!

I've a similar problem, It worked perfectly until yesterday night, now it isn't. I've cleared the cache and everything and using chrome debugger I can see the following errors:

Uncaught ReferenceError: g_trackEvent is not defined http://www.wowhead.com/:57
Uncaught ReferenceError: g_trackEvent is not defined http://www.wowhead.com/:63
Uncaught ReferenceError: Markup is not defined http://www.wowhead.com/:88
Uncaught ReferenceError: Markup is not defined http://www.wowhead.com/:102
Uncaught ReferenceError: PageTemplate is not defined http://www.wowhead.com/:112
Uncaught ReferenceError: Menu is not defined

For example, I cannot see the menu to navigate thru the webpage, also if I try to do it from google (doing a search and then adding wowhead to find the item) I see the same error. This happen on firefox and Chrome (both on latest stable version).

Edit:

Forgot to mention I've tryed with and without anykind of addon installed and neither clearing the cache or using ctrl+f5 works

Neither wowhead nor alla are loading right for me. I've tried multiple computers, Control+F5, multiple browsers, and to the best of my ability even multiple ISPs. Unless we've seen a dramatic increase in posters from China, this one isn't a Great Firewall problem -- it is something on the ZAM side. It would be greatly appreciated if this could be resolved. :)
