Site slow - feed the hamsters? Also, errorsFollow

#1 Feb 16 2015 at 3:59 PM Rating: Good
I've been getting a lot of slowness on the forums lately. Page load times upwards of 30 seconds (I counted). And the occasional:

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

in which the XIV forums don't load at all. In fact, I got it trying to make this post!

Is your database getting too fat, or is there a hardware problem going on as well?

Can't be ads in my case since I'm premium.

And let's not get started on the duplicate posts.

Bump this because the whole site is so slow it is quite difficult and frustrating to use.
The whole gambit...forums, posts, searches, quick lists like spells n whatnots all take serious long time.

Getting this quite a bit:

Been having issues through much of the day as well. Was using Firefox, if it makes a difference.

There is a large delay when posting. But there has been for quite some time, ever since the forums started getting spammed bad. I just assumed that there were a lot of anti spam checks added for posts. I think this delay causes lolgaxe to double post, as he seemed to start doing it a lot roughly the same time I noticed the delay when posting.

It probably happens to more people, I just post more so it's more pronounced.

I don't get a delay. Please describe this delay in vivid detail.

Normal wait times on loading pages on the Zam websites for me is 1-2 seconds when things are running smoothly.

If I post, the time seems to be closer to 8-10 seconds. So I guess "large" is a bit of an exaggeration, but it is relatively bigger. Four to five times the normal delay.

Firefox 35.0.1
Windows 7

I also seem to get the same results when posting from my iPhone, in multiple locations. I just thought it was something the anti-spam filter was calculating on the post before finishing.

During that time, I'd imagine if I pressed the post button again I may trigger a double post, which is what I figured lolgaxe was doing once he started double posting more frequently.

Edit Test.

Edit:
Edits do not appear to have the same delay. Just a couple seconds.

Huh. I suspect either internet shenanigans or something system specific causing the delay. 8-10 seconds is HUGE. But I use Firefox 35.0.1 and Windows 7 (and have other browsers in the wings for testing) and I get... wait, I'll push the button and count.....

two seconds, and the little spinny thingie up by the broswer bar to tell me it's thinking.

That said, recently Firefox was just dragging fanny, being so slow to load stuff that I thought my ISP was out to lunch again. I did the Firefox refresh that removes all the add-ons and haven't had a problem since. Perhaps that will help? You'll have to add back on your favorites but it mucked out a lot of garbage for me.

Test from laptop on home network.

Seems to be a bit of a variance. Got about 6 seconds from the moment I clicked post on the phone to the moment the bar started moving for the loading progress. About 4 seconds on the forum post from my laptop this time.

Edit:
Edits are still 1-2 seconds, as well as normal page loads.
