I don't know if anyone else is seeing this happen at their work, but even with the supposed lack of jobs, people are leaving my company like flies that have found a bigger pile of poo. We now have space for 15, but only 10 people in the building, plus I am the only one on this floor.
Where the hell are people going, and why am I still here? Is everyone going back to school?

I'm waiting.

Wait, was that not a rhetoric question? Hard to read.

A lot of us are going back to school while others are getting the hell out of Corporate America for sanity reasons.

The group I was in use to have 80 or so people, about half compotent while the other half was just using up oxygen in our building. About 2 years ago we started laying people off. First were the incompentants with no seniority. Second were the incopempentants with seniority. Third are the compotents with no seniority and over the last 6 months or so the competant people with some seniority have been getting kicked out the door or leaving of their own free will.

Atomicflea, has your company gone through some management changes? Has it come up with some really crazy crap to "be more efficient" that uses a bucket load of buzz words but actually do nothing more than make people's "this is such ************** meter go off the scale? If either of the two questions above can be answered yes then I'm willing to bet that your questions about why people are leaving can be deduced rather easily.

btw, there's jobs all over the place for qualified competant people but it usually involved moving. However people like me that have lived in some pretty crappy places and finally am in a part of the country that I really like some of us aren't moving.

Well what do you know, I actually went on idealist.org and found a few jobs that I qualify for, so I used up some paid time applying for them and now I feel much better.

Madhame, I work for a non-profit, so what they tell us is "Blah blah blah September 11, blah donorship is down, have to cut back blah blah" and in the meantime my Executive Director just got a whopping $20K raise.

I always wanted to retire early and open a coffee house. Well, I opened the coffee house, but I'm not retired yet. Won't do that for another 9 months at the age of 38. Then open a second, third .... twentieth shop.
