For a change from crazy American politics, here's some crazy Dutch politics.

Our resident madman Geert Wilders has over the past week been compared to Hitler and Goebbels over his statements regarding Moroccan people. About a week ago he told people at some election campaign thing he was holding for regional elections that The Hague could do with less of another (left of center) political party and less Moroccans. This resulted in a half Moroccan, half Dutch member of the other political party to tweet something along the lines of "Hitler is amongst us" with Geert Wilders twitter name. Small political riot, tweet removed etc. but yesterday Wilders had a crowd at a campaign gathering chanting "FEWER FEWER" to the question of whether they wanted more or fewer Moroccans in the country leading to more Hitler comparisons, lawsuits and some call outs to the guy who killed another extreme right politician a decade ago.

Here's an article about it on Al Jazeera as that's the only English source I could find.

The scary thing is is that he's a very talented politician, he's just a horrible human being. His political party (ironically called the party for freedom) is ruled by him with an iron fist and basically a dictatorship of him and a bunch of puppets. He's been sued before for comparing the Qur'an to Mein Kampf (amongst other things) but he managed to get by on free speech and with highly paid lawyers but maybe this time he won't have a get out of jail free card in his backpocket.

tl;dr: Dutch political godwin.

He's great at manipulating people and playing into people's fears and insecurities and blaming them on foreigners, preferably foreigners with non white skin but eastern European is also good. I doubt he actually believes any of the crap he spews but he wants power and as much of it as he can get.

Ah I see, yeah I know the type. They usually use some phrase like poor inner city welfare addicts or something to "not offend" anyone. Then the minute they slip up and refer to a group by name everyone is on their case like it's some great revelation.

It's rather scary that he's doing that because it gives him more power. I mean, it's awful and all but the the idea that that kind of rhetoric is appealing to people is even more frightening.

You have a lot of Moroccans in the Netherlands?

Teach them to speed skate. When they bring home an Olympic medal in the sport, they'll be one with the Dutch.

People like having someone else to blame for their misfortunes. Especially when there's a financial crisis and unemployment is high.

They were imported back in the 70's and 80's when there were jobs aplenty, now that there aren't so many jobs combined with the relatively high rate of criminals from the Turkish and Moroccan population and they're an easy target. It's the basic "They're stealin' our jerbs!" thing.

Entertaining continuation of the story, so many people have and are reporting him to the police that the police have created a standard form to make it easier on officers.

Is it true that there are entire swaths of area of Nederlanderland where the police don't even try to enforce Dutch law over Sharia law lest Muslims cause a riot?
Am I getting something wrong here? Please let me know. I don't want to be a victim of false perceptions..

Though I grant you this guy may well be the Dutch version of a KKK Grand Dragon; but I still don't see the logic in making it a crime to point out that certain ethic/religious groups are violent when they threaten to kill you for saying so. This is not the same as Black/White racism or even Dutch/Moroccan racism. Muslim is not a race. and the Muslims that follow the openly militant ideologies of violence and oppression are certainly a real and growing problem in Europe. The focus should be more on the appeasement of militant religious teachers throughout Europe.

Enticing a crowd to chant that they want less Moroccans in the country is pretty racist to me and I don't think it can be seen in any other way, the fact that it made people recall WW2 makes it all the worse. Wilders has been brought to court for hate speech before but got away because he was specifically talking about extremist Muslims and criminals (and he had good lawyers), it's pretty likely that he won't get away with this.

As for that real and growing problem of extremist Muslims in Europe, it's nothing but fear mongering, only 4% of the Dutch population is Muslim vs about 30% Christian (actual practicing, going to church/mosque etc numbers are probably less than half that). Moroccans (and other non white Dutch people) are over represented amongst suspects but that is in no small part due to the fact that they are generally not well educated and often poor and the over representation isn't anything like what Wilders wants people to believe. Common sense should tell you that area's in the Netherlands being ruled by sharia law is about as likely as Obama being a secret Muslim.

That all said, the fallout of this whole thing has been entertaining, Wilders is refusing to take his words back and it's resulted in multiple party members leaving his party and what amounts to an unofficial cordon sanitaire where pretty much every party has said not to cooperate with his party on any level anymore.

Out of curiosity I checked and 83% of Kenyans are actually Christian. Percentage wise, that's higher than the US.

Fun fact of the day.

So is that a "YES" on what I said then?
I'm just trying to get a straight answer without politicizing it. I don't follow Dutch politics or watch Dutch news but I'm just wondering. My impression wasn't that he was about race per se but this particular extremist mindset and the general appeasement of it. Aside from this video; I haven't seen one piece of evidence convincing me of this guy's racism.

Because to be sure if someone pulled this in US his career would be flushed; but to prosecute someone over it is a bit much.
