Meh, still unrealistically thin, with form-fitting clothing and an over-sized chest, etc. 4/10, shame on them. Smiley: disappointed

Smiley: rolleyes

Or maybe this is why games should have lots of sliders for, um... customization?

So long as they stop before you get gnome-sized; that just isn't a pretty mental image.

Maybe not excited, but I'd like the people that are being designated to tell us if a game is worth our money to be a little honest about it. If Call of Battle Madden 15xvi is crappy, I think we should know before putting some money down. We really shouldn't have to gamble on a game's quality.

Really though, the part that gets under my skin is when people get fired or sanctioned over their opinion when their job is about presenting an opinion.

I haven't heard anything of it, so either nothing came of it, nothing has come out of it yet, or they're just saving the reveal for the next video.

Doing a quick search reveals that people do that with or without sliders.

The response from the "games press" to the Anita fakery and the Quinn thing has been interesting. Someone on Facebook linked me a list that someone on Reddit put together.

"Gamers" are over, apparently.
Edit: Apparently one of the words in the URL is triggering the filter. Here's the list.

Holy cats, each of those pieces is stupider than the one before. I also noticed that, as you go through the list, the opinion pieces begin citing one another as evidence which is always a good sign.

Also, one of them is 80% contrived "thought experiment" which put it at Gbaji-post levels.

I've noticed that it happens a lot with those sites.

Edit: You know, if I had run across this a couple hours ago, I might have been extremely skeptical. Surely that could never happen. They wouldn't buy it. After reading those articles? I'm not so sure anymore.

"Will destroy gaming for the male population forever"?

Hardly. You know what will "destroy gaming" (such as it's being defined here) forever? If people actually stop buying all those games. Which isn't really happening. So they're going to keep making those games (Tomb Raider or Grand Theft Auto or Mario Brothers or whatever the terrible trope-promoting game of the hour is) because people keep spending money on them.

I've said before that I'd be a lot more impressed if someone actually put their money where their mouth is and started making these games that are supposedly being craved. That's not something your average internet poster can do but here we have a couple people who, between them, can rake in huge piles of dollars and (supposedly*) design games so... well, wouldn't the obvious next step be putting out wonderful games that give these people all they feel a game should have to meet this need and show everyone else how it's done and how successful it'll be?

This isn't to give any credence to the random Imgur thingie, of course.

*Really, I've heard no one claim that Depression Quest is actually a good game

Apparently putting your money where your mouth is gets you blackballed in the industry.

Edit: I'm gonna try Depression Quest tonight and I'll post about it tomorrow sometime between dying of noxious paint fumes and picking splinters out of my hands.

If Depression Quest is what we get when we follow the Enlightened Guide to Gaming, we weren't missing much.

Edit: Actually, it sounds as though FYC was trying to help female developers and then they got in a fight with Quinn and now people are blackballing them on Quinn's behalf? Or something?

That's exactly what FYC was trying to do. They were going to do all the legwork and the contest consisted of finding a woman with an idea but not the know-how. 8% of proceeds were going to go to her, and the rest to charity. Then Quinn started posting on her Twitter account how FYC was trying to, basically, enslave a woman and not pay her and steal her ideas and such. At that point /v/ jumped in and tossed FYC a lot of money to continue with their project, going so far as helping with character design with creating Vivian James.

I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding, and that after the project all but died Quinn started her own version of the exact same thing right afterwards is just a coincidence as well.

Anyway, started Depression Quest. Quitting it after four pages. It's literally a Choose Your Adventure book with less effort put into it than a cheap Newgrounds Flash game. THIS is the game. There are some links that go into describing things, like "Alex."

It's not a game in any sense of the word. There is zero entertainment value to it, and there is less educational value. The whole thing is so nonsensically "safe" that it borders being insulting. You start as a "mid-twenties human being with a significant other." You go a while making a few decisions which is about as fun as reading a "Choose Your Adventure" book, minus the adventure. Or any actual choice, apparently. The twenty minutes I played half the selections were blocked off. Even if you make the "good" choices, like asking friends for help and go to a doctor and such it just prolongs the pain. And not in an educational "Now you understand what being depressed is like" way, but more as a "Two hundred channels on TV and the power is out" kind of pain.

Even the music is like six notes repeated infinitely.

"Played" it as well. It's about as much a game as Dinner Date or The Graveyard.

I picked the obvious "good" answers. I'd see if I wind up hanging myself from the shower rod if I pick all "bad" answers but honestly don't care enough to find out.

The blocked off answers, I assume, are supposed to make you realize how trapped and corralled you are by your depression. The more you know!

Frankly, that's a very generous offer given the number of knuckleheads out there who say "Needed: Coders, Animators, Writers, Voice Actors for great game idea I have. Can't pay but it'll look awesome in your portfolio!". To not only have NOT have rocks rightfully thrown at you but to even get paid for it should be a dream come true.

I'm not saying I believe it'll destroy gaming or anything. I'm just saying I'd no longer put it past them to try.
