Last minute predictions?

I'm going final tally will have GOP with 52 in the Senate. At least one Democratic upset (Alaska or Colorado, probably) to fuel a thousand stories of how the polling could have been wrong.

Going to guess Quinn for governor in Illinois by 1%. If he wins, it'll be a strong sign that Mark Kirk (R) will lose his senate seat in 2016.

I'm predicting three seven year olds shot dead in the Manhattan area.

Astorino doesn't have much of a chance against Cuomo. Probably a yes for the school technology legislation. Maybe yes on the electric vs paper bill deal. I think there's something about discussion on how redistricting goes but meh as far as my attention towards it.

I was going to make a last minute prediction thread, but decided against it. Similar to you, I think the GOP will have the majority with at least one or two upsets. What I would LIKE to happen is the DEM to win the gubernatorial races and let the GOP take the Senate. This would allow for potential ACA expansions and put more of the responsibilities on the GOP. 8 years of DEM power isn't a good setup for Hillary in 2016.

I don't think the GOP understands the definition of "government accountability".

Well, I wasn't expecting them to. I was more referencing the undecided whimsical voter who blames every problem on the person in office. With the POTUS being a Democrat, the DEMs will still take a hit in 2016, but the DEMs could take this opportunity to say that they are now in the minority, vote for them for change. So, the GOP might not accept that accountability, but it could be projected.

My prediction is the Republicans take the Senate. And the Dems secretly celebrate.

Coles notes please on why Dems would celebrate a GOP win in the senate.

What ever majority they get wont be enough to actually do anything other than what is currently being done and then the GOP won't be able to cry that the Dems have held all the power (not really) and look at how nothing is getting done.

We can't forget mr Berman revelations when discussing this election cycle.t

I am weirdly tickled that it was met with a minor yawn. To me it means people have finally accepted old school propaganda machine as a given.

Pretty much. That's a silver lining outlook though, of course. Reid would much rather be controlling what legislation hits the floor than leading the filibusters against GOP legislation.

I think years of Karl Rove accomplished that.

Ya, I guess "celebrate" isn't the correct word. "Not panic" maybe?

Yeah. GOP control of the Senate costs the Dems the "the GOP has no ideas" and "GOP are obstructionists" angles, forcing them to be the ones filibustering GOP legislation. But, on the other side, they do get a bit of the whole "GOP in control and nothing got done" angle (as well as the "we're in the minority, so vote for us!" bit). Not sure how well that one will play out, but it's there, I guess. I do think it's more cost than gain. Reid has really used his control of the legislation schedule in the Senate to his party's benefit, so losing that probably trumps anything else.

Well, yeah. Obviously either party would rather control the Senate.

Reid as minority leader would have a lot more flexibility than McConnell as minority leader though since Reid doesn't have to exercise the filibuster as often (due to Obama's veto power).

On the other hand, it might be advantageous for Reid to force the filibusters just to push the 2010 GOP class of blue/purple state senators into being on the record for various agenda items.

Edit: Speaking of, KY called for McConnell.

Not sure if I should be surprised by that... I mean, working with a bunch of people in KY last year who were very conservative, they couldn't stop spouting the "Ditch Mitch" slogan, but when it came down to it I doubt they did anything other than a Republican ticket.

McConnell is a lousy senator but Grimes was a terrible candidate. She only did as well as she did because, again, McConnell is a lousy senator. But that'll only take you so far.

No, celebrate is the correct word. They lose the Senate for two years. Are you trusting the Republicans to do the "right thing" in the eyes of the majority of voters? Remember, they only have the numbers (of elected officials) they do because they are Jedi Masters at redistricting. They take the reins for two years and go into a steroid rage. McConnell tries to keep them under control without much success. They certainly aren't going to be proposing anything the average joe is happy about. And yeah, they'll lie about how Obama screwed the pooch (Thanks Obama!) because that ***** gets slobbed up by the base. If the Dems hold onto the Senate now they don't give the Republicans the opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot, reload, and fire again.

In two years the Dems win it back and get a Dem elected to the WH.

You asked for a prediction. I wouldn't call this going out on a limb.
