Or know anyone who does? We're new car shopping and this is one of the vehicles we are considering that we have the last first hand experience with.

Now, I owe it to myself to tell you that if you're taking the whole tribe cross-country, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster ... You think you hate it now, wait 'til you drive it.

No, I remember test driving them when we were car shopping though. Too small. It was like the same interior space as our old Corolla, added very little to cargo room, and cost tons more.

It only takes us 2.5 years to make this sort of decision. We'll start touring universities with Hannah when she turns 11 to make sure we can sufficiently make a good choice.

Really, though, testament to how just adequate a Toyota Corolla is when you don't care that much about cars. We haven't actually taken delivery yet, because apparently they can't avoid immediately selling every single 2015 Outback that shows up around here and there aren't any in a 1000 mile radius in the very non complicated configuration we bought.

Given the opportunity I'd love to drive an Outback, with my kayak on top, and pretend to be a yuppie douchebag from Rhinebeck.

I all I want is a car with its centre of roll lower than its centre of gravity. And a tall star to sail her buy. Wait, what?

AMC Pacer's center of gravity is below the surface of the road, or so I've heard. You're welcome!Smiley: tongue

If you're concerned with rolling over, look into an MRAP. They'll probably be going on the market soon enough, if we consider Humvees.

Not concerned with rolling over, it's more the better cornering, where the car passengers get pushed into every curve, instead of being hit by centripetal force.

Isn't that centrifugal?

Suppose it depends on whether we're talking about the fact that they slide into the door when the car turns, or whether the door pushes them back into the car. Um... So yeah. Centrifugal in this case.

Centripetal force keeps the car on the road and the passengers inside the car while driving through a curve. Centrifugal force makes sure the backseat passengers are squished together against one door.

If the centripetal force holding the car on the road was maintained, but the centripetal force holding the passengers in the car was not (e.g. door breaks open), the centrifugal force would pull the backseat passengers out and away from the car.

The centrifugal force is not a real force, mind you; it's just a way to explain why **** moves away from the center of curvature when the centripetal force holding it in place seizes to exist. In other words: "I'm swinging a ball by a piece of string. Ball is going around in a curve. String is the centripetal force. String breaks and ball flies away. Centrifugal force is pulling it away."

At least, that's how I remember it being explained way back when I actually studied science instead of pretending to know it.
