I wanted to vote for Franco, but as he isn't running I guess I'll have to settle for Clinton.

Only if you equate "less regulation" with "supports big business". Typically big businesses are supportive of more regulation because it creates a larger barrier to entry for potential new competitors.

-- Is against any sort of government intervention into climate change
-- Supports eliminating the minimum wage
-- Eliminate all corporate taxes
-- Eliminate all capital gains taxes
-- Eliminate all inheritance taxes
-- Eliminate net neutrality; allow telecommunication companies to discriminate on access
-- Supports deregulating the insurance industry
-- Cut Medicare/Medicaid dramatically; change into block grants
-- Opposes any paid family/medical leave
-- Opposes labor/employee unions

Seems like pretty typical wealthy/business platforms to me. In fact, even the platforms where he's closer to Obama such as trade agreements and immigration are pro-business things.

That's fine. I'm just saying that Johnson isn't much different than your average "Help business and the wealthy" style Republican in most of his platform. If that's what you like and you're cool with his crippling ignorance of world affairs then he's your guy. If you're feeling snitty that Sanders lost and think a vote for a guy diametrically opposite in most of his views is going to help, you're just being silly.

Sure, I wouldn't expect Sanders fans to vote for Johnson. My point was that traditional Republicans/conservatives have more to like in Johnson than Trump.

And may those guys all vote for Johnson in November while the nationalists and xenophobes vote for Trump. Amen.

I'm still hoping it's all been an elaborate ruse.

The offices of the New York Attorney General just ordered the Trump Foundation to stop all fundraising due to the charity allegedly not having authorization to seek public donations. Basically calling it a fraud. This after the IRS fined them for using donations to the Florida Attorney General and reporting in its public forms that the money was for a similarly named charity instead. Also reported that Trump used his foundation to help settle a series of lawsuits against his private businesses.

538 ran a column positing that, if Johnson won New Mexico, the race could theoretically end with no one reaching 270 electoral votes and the vote going to the House of Representatives. So now my Facebook is full of goofs sharing posts by Johnson saying "Look! I could be president! Nate Silver says so!"

Unsaid: the same column gives a 0.15% chance of this scenario playing out, Johnson is not leading in New Mexico (nor even close, really) and the chance of the House voting in Johnson is less than that. The House Democrats are not going to vote for Johnson and Ryan & Co have committed themselves to the Trump revolution. Voting against Trump in the House would kill the GOP.

Edit: Errant zero in the percentage.

Trump also had businesses who owed him money instead pay directly to the Trump Foundation, whereupon that money was used for settling legal debts, buying paintings and bribing state attorney generals thus effectively evading taxes on the income.

Not surprising. Aside from Obama, they've endorsed Republicans in every election since the dawn of time. And Johnson exemplifies the free trade, pro-business attitude the Trib editors like more than Trump.

Amusingly, Clinton has 22 endorsements from dailies, Johnson has six and Trump has negative two (papers which did not endorse anyone but said not to vote for Trump).

Might as well let them have them have their fun now. One of them is getting stuffed in the trunk for the next 4 years and forgotten about, expect maybe a quick pressure check to make sure they're still functional.

After teasing a major announcement that conservative media was heralding as "campaign ending" for Clinton, Julian Assange has announced that... Wikileaks will continue to release stuff weekly over the next ten weeks.

Mind you, the election is in five weeks so maybe he wants to talk to scheduling.

Would have been better if he'd ended with Rick Astley.

Johnson says it's good that he doesn't know about the world because he can't wage war on countries if he knows nothing about them or where they are.

I was watching him on the news this morning. I think CNN? And he doubled down on his Aleppo moments. That even now, 5 days later, he couldn't name a leader. And not because some BS plausible excuse like "Too many" or saying he was put on the spot and had a brain fart. But that he doesn't know them, and that he's not a politician so he's awesome or something? He's like... Wanna-be Trump-lite? The Maverick Outsider, without all the racist tweets? I just returned to eating my hotel breakfast waffle and sausage patties.

Bill Weld has already given up on the election.
Boston Globe wrote:
The Libertarian vice presidential candidate, William F. Weld, said Tuesday that he plans to focus exclusively on blasting Donald Trump over the next five weeks, a strategic pivot aimed at denying Trump the White House and giving himself a key role in helping to rebuild the GOP.
[...]
While Weld insisted he still supports Johnson, he said he is now interested primarily in blocking Trump from winning the presidency and then potentially working with longtime Republican leaders such as Mitt Romney and Haley Barbour to create a new path for the party after the election.
