Good riddance.
While I won't miss Gawker specifically, I'm sure the Internet will supply those writers and editors with a new outlet for their ***-outing and blackmail-abetting trite.
Happiness comes in small doses, folks. It's a cigarette butt, or a chocolate chip cookie or a five second orgasm. You cum, you smoke the butt, you eat the cookie, you go to sleep, wake up and go back to fucking work the next morning. THAT'S IT! End of fucking list!

What I assume to be Gawker's final post.

You're right LOLgaxe. My emotional umbrage at Gawker was more about the sister sites than that main site. Now, I say, sure conveniently, but also truly, If Gawker dies to keep jezebel and gizmodo alive, okay. Many authors of all of these have seen the ship and jumped off but I hope some good reporters are left on such sites. Including Deadspin.

Granted it lacks the panache of telling people to copulate with an alligator, but this was the actual final post.

I like the part where he chastises other gossip sites for only going after B-list celebrities after being taken down by Hulk Hogan. Smiley: lol

Boy got out meta-gamed.

Cliff's Notes it, man. Their doors closing still doesn't make me want to pay them a visit. Though I doubt it's more than a long winded, though rational sounding, rant about just how awful it is they're not above the law, how they did no wrong and just how important stories covering which Romney kid is the most husband-worthy are to society.

1) My internet site is going away because of mean people.

2) Not only mean, but the guy was out to get me for petty reasons. Did I mention he was mean too?

3) This was a great site full of great people who weren't afraid to do great things.

4) Everyone else was afraid to post the stuff we posted. We were the best.

5) Press freedom is under attack by evil billionaires and you should be afraid.

6) I'm going to miss my internet site.

7) Fight the power!

I visited Gawker, Deadspin, and Jezebel multiple times per day. I didn't pay attention to most of the celebrity gossip stuff (politician gossip - yes), but they also did a lot of great journalism and humor pieces and opinion columns. Luckily, a lot of the former Gawker writers (and their typical content) can now be found on theconcourse.deadspin.com - Deadspin's already existing subsite for non-sports stuff. At least, I hope it'll last and Univision leaves the company as a whole to their own devices (albeit with more lawyer input on what will get them sued).

Gawker's troubles are not over yet, it seems.
Quote:
The FOIA was sent out by the FTC and notes that not everything regarding the investigation into Gawker could be revealed in the request. There was an exemption for 890 pages that were denied access to due to ongoing law enforcement investigations into Gawker.

One of the still-twitching organs harvested from Gawker's fresh corpse is complaining about old Gawker articles being deleted, despite the delete vote occurring per Gawker's pre-sale agreement.

Yeah, I can see how stories about a guy being ejected from a kid's baseball game need to be preserved for future generations.

We don't like how the company that bailed us out is taking measures to keep us in business!

Hey, at least they have their limits:
The New York Times wrote:
The former editor, Albert J. Daulerio, a defendant in an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit brought by the retired wrestler Hulk Hogan, was asked by the plaintiff’s lawyer where he drew the line when it came to posting videos of people having sex.

“Can you imagine a situation where a celebrity sex tape would not be newsworthy?” asked the lawyer, Douglas E. Mirell.

“If they were a child,” Mr. Daulerio replied.

“Under what age?” the lawyer pressed.

“Four.”

A celebrity sex tape with a four year old would actually be news.
