Rice is for Sake not beer. I can drink Sake in small amounts.

Forgot that bud had rice in it too though it was in the back of my mine as I wrote that it may too. I just think beer that comes in aluminum can needing preservatives is shame to drink, when there are so many better beers you can get on tap now days.

Beer is disgusting. Any alcoholic beverage that tastes good costs much more than a non-alcoholic beverage. Since I have no desire to be buzzed/drunk, there is no reason for me to drink.

If you're making a lager (especially a pilsner, which is what most American bulk beers are), using rice makes a lot of sense. While craft beers are focused on strong flavors and thus want grains with a high flavor to starch ratio, for a lager, you actually want a low ratio. So using things like corn or rice isn't about making the beer cheaper, or messing with people, or some other sinister plot. It's about how you actually make a beer that has a very very mild flavor while still being able to get the desired ABV. Yes, it's the opposite of what home brewers think of "good beer", but there's a scary number of people who desire to drink lightly flavored alcohol-water and call it beer. And that's who these beers are marketed to.

Again though, it's the market you're aiming for. I agree that if you're paying for tap prices, why on earth buy something like Bud. On the other hand, comparing Bud in a can to a craft beer on tap isn't a fair comparison, given the price difference alone. If craft beers were sold in bulk in cans, they'd need the same amount of preservatives (more actually). You pay for that luxury of smaller batches with shorter life spans. I'm by no means defending Budweiser here, but there's nothing at all wrong with the product itself in terms of its applicability to the target market.

That's actually pretty accurate. About the only time I drink beer on my own (i.e., not at a party where it's offered) is when I'm doing yard work, in the sun for a while or otherwise engaged in some manly household task. In which case, I just want something refreshing with a little buzz to make the time move along a little more enjoyably. "Lightly flavored alcohol-water" is more fitting for the situation than the "bread in a bottle" varieties.

What kinds of unholy places did they drag you too!?
I bought the hard root beer at the grocery store on a lark. It was fairly tasty.

My sister tried it and said it was pretty good, though not as good as a Guinness float. Smiley: dubious

Not a fan of anything much stronger than sharp cheddar.

So it's most likely the grains themselves. Ciders, meads, and wines all involve fermentation of other things (fruits of various sorts), which I'm guessing you're ok with. Just stick with those, if you want.
I like most ciders(prefer them a little sweet). I've had mead I liked and mead I didn't. And wines are hit and miss for me. Truth be told, if I'm drinking wine, I usually mix a cheap table red with equal parts Sprite for something not unlike a cranberry cocktail in flavor. I'm also a fan of brandy/cognac and rum, though I prefer the former for cooking over drinking.
gbaji wrote:
So if you like the taste of gin, for example, you'd actually prefer a heavily hopped beer more than less hopped beers.
Maybe. Like I said, I'm no connoisseur of beers. I've just had about two dozen different kinds shoved in my face with a promise of "surely you'll like this one!" Smiley: laugh

Oh, and since this thread is about Bernie, or at least was, this happened. I'm sure it'll clinch the nom.

Wouldn't put it past him, but mostly I was remaking on the turn of conversation to drug use.

Probably any belief that Bernie has a realistic shot in this race has to be induced by heavy drug use.

Of course, my drug use is moderate at best and I really do believe that Bernie can win it.

I wish I could say I was Berning one when I started this thread, but that is not the case. Hell, as long as Clinton wants to be a spoiled prat and show her cowardice to the people of New York, I think the chances only get better that Bernie will win.

If she thinks Bernie needs a change in tone, I got news for her, she's going to be in for a nightmare facing the Republicans and their Super PACs in a general election scenario. You know it. I know it. Anyone keeping up with the news whatsoever knows it.
