I don't know, it's a small sample size but ten out of ten times it gets rogue popcorn pieces out.

Yeah, so long as flossing keeps leading to gunk on the line, I'm going to assume it's doing some good.

For what it's worth toothbrushes have come a long way in the last 100+ years since they started recommending flossing. I mean, even in our lifespan they've gone from a single flat bunch of bristles to having a crazy number of different types of bristles and rubbery parts all crammed on and around different parts of a toothbrush head, pointing every which way and whatnot.

And that's if they're not spinning, vibrating or firing ultrasonic waves into your mouth. Or whatever toothbrushes do these days.

I would have to agree with the floss doing some good. I regularly floss after lunch and can see what it removes from between my teeth. I also use a water flosser(oral irrigator) at night before brushing my teeth and you wouldn't believe the amount of food particles I see sometimes. It just shows you how cavities can form between the teeth if you are only brushing and not clearing that gunk out.

Since we're introducing the anecdotal, I've never had a cavity in my life(unless you count where one of my wisdom teeth grew in weird, cracked and then got a cavity) and I went through a period of about 25 years(to be fair, I didn't have teeth for the first couple) where I only ever flossed if I'd eaten popcorn and a toothpick wasn't working.

Yes, it is anecdotal. I was terrible with oral hygiene for many years and suffered a lot of issues because of it. I have noticed a vast improvement since I started a regular hygiene regimen.

As far as you never having cavities...there are so many variables to consider, between physiology differences from person to person as well as different eating habits and other health related activities. Basically, no two people are alike(stating the obvious I suppose).

I had a tooth like that once. It took a tremendous amount of force to embed it into anything. They sell them really dull though I guess so they aren't so dangerous. I lost it after I sharpened all the sides it passed cleanly through the drywall where I could not recover it without tearing the whole wall open.

I don't know how someone could look at the plaque buildup that you scrap out of between your teeth and decide that it's not bad, because there isn't enough evidence to say it's bad.

I didn't floss for the longest time. Then a few years back when I went on my diet I also decided to start flossing regularly (daily before brushing my teeth at night). My gums no longer bleed at all when at the dentist and they poke around in there. Also I'm pretty sure my breath must smell better. If I go a day without flossing, then floss, the plaque that comes out with the floss has a very bad smell. I can't imagine having that stuff sit in between my teeth for days.

With my broken tooth, I can floss enough crap out of there for a second course. And occasionally I'll break some chunks of plaque free.
