That no matter how blindly devout to one's ideology that the best course of action is to consider and listen to the opposition instead of just assume they're going to hell for not just believing your mindless claims?

Two points:

1. It's possible to consider and listen to the opposition and still disagree with them.

2. It's possible that when you do this, the other guy is so blindly devout to his ideology that he refuses to consider and listen to your disagreement.

When that happens, which "side" is considering and listening and which is just blindly devoted to their ideology is somewhat subjective, but you can usually at least guess by looking at which side is using argument to make their point and which side is just repeating grand assumptive statements, using short circular logic, and, when that fails, resorting to name calling.

just saying.

Point being that, on this board at least, you listen but then don't consider.

You dismiss, you hand-wave, you deride, you doubt, and you disparage.

To "consider" you must think carefully about something and then render a decision. Every single aspect of your posting style shows that you don't consider anything.

Maybe you do, and are just terrible at expressing it in the written word. If that's the case you are really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, terrible at expressing it in the written word.

But I doubt it.

I honestly am lost on what you're getting at here. Is what she is saying supposed to apply to Gbaji toward someone else, or is this supposed to apply to someone else toward Gbaji? It seems you could very easily argue it goes either way.

While the sentiment in the video is nice, it appears to be asymmetrical in its advice, which is a problem. By that I mean it essentially says "to convince someone else, these are the things you should do". Which is fine, until both sides apply the strategy and are only concerned about convincing the other. A better strategy is to focus on techniques for determining what is true, regardless of any of the parties' initial positions. Unfortunately this can lead to a prisoner's dilemma type situation where one who is fully open to being convinced of the truth regardless of position can be more often drawn to a particular position by someone entirely determined to convince that person of their position than they would be by another person who mirrors them. However I think two people wholly open to the truth regardless of position will more often arrive at ideas that beat out two people determined entirely to convince the other of their own side.

Is there some way you can demonstrate to a third party that Gbaji is doing this and you are not?

Decade and a half of posts using "liberal" as a derogative would be a good start.

Define "valid".

Gbaji's arguments usually aren't all that hard to follow or understand. But if I think it's full of factual inaccuracies and completely non-compelling, is it "valid"?

An old girlfriend of mine once remarked that the summer days were longer in her home town than they were in Chicago. I said that we'd make up for it in the winter and she said, no, the winter days were longer as well. I remarked that that was impossible since every location gets the same hours of daylight annually be it six months on/off at the poles or 12hrs on/off at the equator (rounded for example). She became offended and said that it was her opinion that her home town got more hours of daylight regardless of the season and I was wrong to just say her opinion is wrong. Was her view "valid"? When there's dozens of reports detailing the Congressional budgeting process and Gbaji insists that it's not like that at all but rather totally different, is that "valid"?

BTW, I'm not touching the original OP link (I didn't even view it) or whether or not it applies to Gbaji. Just found your question interesting.

Well, if her hometown was on the top of a mountain and Chicago were in the bottom of a valley, the relative horizon would allow more/less sunlight to reach...

Maybe they could be priests of the sun god. Building a temple on the point of land that has the most sunlight, and funding it by charging sunbathers a premium to keep their tans fresh all year long.

With enough mirrors you can burn anything that gets between the sun temple and the sun.

This is commonly referred to as Archimede's Fun Sun Gun.

Orbitals by default have an object that blocks the sun, unless you are really clever and have a heliosynchronous orbit, which rides the terminator through a perpetual twilight zone or is set to high noon.

Yes, but also with space lasers that burn with the force of 10,000 suns.
