Also, it seems they didn't have odds listed for Matt Lauer. So the house made some good money on that one.

And Andrew Kreisberg today.

I literally just finished Crisis on Earth-X, and came to see what was up in here, to see this news. Coincidence? I think not! Smiley: tinfoilhat

I kind of skimmed through the past several pages of this thread - didn't want to read pedantic dissections of gbaji's mindvomit. Have we talked about this yet? I feel like it's important; the outgoing CFPB Director basically tried to personally anoint an un-removable successor.

Saw that, but it seemed pretty straight-forward. The deputy director gets to become acting director unless the president appoints someone instead. Then the president appointed someone instead. Seems to make logical sense that the president gets the final say on the vacancy, but I'm not really well enough informed about the legal complications to the point I could argue confidently either way.

"Personally anoint" is a bit overly poetic. The law states that the director can name a deputy director and also states that the deputy director becomes acting director should the current director leave. That's not especially weird or anything.

There's a conflict between that and the lawful ability of the president to fill vacancies and so that's for the court to wrangle out. I guess I never mentioned it (even in a "OMG Trump is trying to violate the CFPB law!" manner) because it was sort of a "Huh, well guess we wait and see there" reaction from me.

In other Trump appointment news, Kellyanne Conway has been selected to lead the administration's response on the opioid crisis. Because Trump's circle of sycophants is only so large and God forbid he ever give someone an important role because they're qualified and not because of how much ass they've kissed.

Not if you look it up on Urban Dictionary. Then it's just gross!

I hope that Kreisberg is the reason Felicity is constantly the center of attention and with his departure she'll be killed off.

I figured that was going to happen eventually when an administration is reluctant with appointing people in the first place.

Not this time.

I'm just saying that eventually someone was going to appoint their own person, and really? I doubt Mulvaney would have gotten a nod otherwise and the position would have been left empty.

Oh, for sure he nominated somebody so quickly to challenge the Dem's appointment. But the whole purpose of the appointment was to leverage a clause in the Dodd-Frank legislation to try filling the position with a Democrat instead of whoever Trump would have appointed, then blocking any nominee in the Senate as long as possible. Even CFPB's top lawyer agreed that Trump's authority to nominate a replacement superseded the CFPB bill.

Although I will admit that English naming Mulvaney in a lawsuit attempting to block the nomination as a defendant "in his capacity as the person claiming to be acting director" was pretty lit.

So, uh, like maybe two days? The GOP Senate has rubber-stamped every appointee thus far, regardless of qualifications, and there's no blocking via filibuster.

More than enough time to etch "Trump Sucks!" into all the office furniture.

Definitely need to use the black lights in the office before touching any surfaces!

I wouldn't want to touch anything. The building has had pest problems for decades.

The roaches and rats have been complaining about them since like Jimmy Carter.

So I guess Michael Flynn has flipped, been charged with a relatively minor crime (false statements, etc) and will plead guilty to get his wrist slap in exchange for his cooperation.

Given that there weren't many people higher up the food chain, there's only a couple people Flynn could have been providing substantial information on.

I'm waiting for "Contact with Russians could mean anything! Maybe Trump just has Flynn contact them to see if they had any of that Russian salad dressing!"

In other news, McConnell says he has the 50 votes to pass his terrible tax bill. Next question will be if it actually goes to committee or if Ryan just has the House vote on it as-is.

Maybe Mueller had the dressing once at a Trump hotel, and wanted to know what it was. I mean, a severely reduced prison term in exchange for some delicious salad dressing is a pretty good deal for both sides.

If it all plays out this way I'm still a little surprised. I would have assumed Trump had the foresight to leave anything shady to his underlings so he could claim ignorance if everything collapsed. Rookie mistake by a rookie politician I guess. Smiley: rolleyes

He's too much of a narcissist to give credit to anyone else, or let anyone else handle things though. I'm surprised he hasn't come out to demand credit where credit is due
