I...I agree.

Doesn't make her not-a-racist, though. In fact, the two tend to go hand in hand.

You can't fit the designs for anything more complicated than a paper clip on less than 1TB of disk these days. Forget about actual technical data associated with said design.

I regularly have plans for entire skyscrapers including structural, civil, MEP, fire suppression, landscape and interiors in files under 5GB. I have no idea where you got that idea from.

I was really more trying to make a joke about how the WaPo article says "including secret plans about ..." in the article itself. Which um... means the plans aren't secret now, even if they were before. I mean, now instead of just the Chinese government knowing about our secret sub based missile program, everyone knows! Yay security!

And honestly, it was the specificness of the number (614GB) that kinda hit me. So... what? That's the entire size of the disk space available to the system(s) that was/were hacked? In any sort of design environment, that's absolutely tiny. I mean, that could be one guys laptop with whatever data happened to be there (which I'd suspect is what we're actually talking about here). But I'm questioning the totality of said data in that case. The vague phrase "relating to" used a couple times also kinds trips my "they're making this sound a lot worse than it probably is" sense.

The labeling of this as "massive amounts of sensitive data" made me laugh is all.

I'm pretty sure my very first post on this was that she's an idiot.

Yeah, I'm trimming out the speculations, political diatribe, and whatnot:

I wrote:
And no, this is not me defending her one bit. Roseanne has long been an obnoxious angry comic who goes out of her way to be offensive in her comedy. It's not like this is new for her, and I've never been a fan of her or her "art".

I wrote:
It was a dumb thing for her to do though. She should have used a source less likely to be associated with race. Like maybe 1984, or Brave New World. I can't say what was going through her mind though, so whatever.

Quote:
Doesn't make her not-a-racist, though.

Doesn't make her not-a-space-alien either. Or not-a-lizard-person. Or not-a-secret-russian-spy. Or not.... well... anything. I'm going with "she's an idiot". It's not like I didn't already list a whole set of dumb and offensive things she's done and said over her career, right?

I'm not defending her but, but [long nonsensical diatribe about how she was really referencing the themes and deep dystopian meaning of a 1960s sci-fi flick about monkey people and it was something only conservatives could understand because they're in tune with that thought but not liberals because liberals only see racism so aren't they the real monsters here?]

This sounds a lot like "I'm not agreeing with the Birthers, I'm just asking questions!"

Er. Except for the already mentioned Howard Cosell.
You mean the guy who got called out on it and tried to pretend he didn't remember even calling a black guy a monkey and when that didn't work tried to play it off as something he called everyone, including his grandkids? Good luck working that defense. Or is your defense shifting from "The one person in half a millennium who didn't know" to "It's okay to call him the N word if you also do it to white people?" Because that one don't fly either.

It's fun that even Roseanne is aware of how unbelievable a lie that is, which is why she isn't using it.

My Uncle used to call his daughter Monkey. Smiley: grin Lucky for him she was white. (Probably lucky for his wife too...)

I had a chemistry teacher in High School who used to give out notes and pictures to graduating seniors at the end of the year. Pictures were of an animal she thought represented a personality trait of the student. One girl in my graduating class was given a picture of a shrieking baboon. Because she was a very loud person. Even her normal talking voice was almost screaming. She took offense to it, and I imagine had she been black it would have been portrayed very differently (pre-social media years, so no outrage generating machine available). I believe the year before a girl who was into ballet took offense to the teacher using a picture of a piglet in a tutu. (I thought people thought piglets were cute? This girl did not, and complained about being called a pig). None of the complaints seemed to stop the teacher from doing this. I do think in the Facebook/Twitter era the practice would have been a lot more dangerous to her career.

“Cohen, now with no legal representation, is likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors in New York, sources said. This development, which is believed to be imminent, will likely hit the White House, family members, staffers and counsels hard.”

Meanwhile, Cohen is telling friends that he expects to be arrested soon, CNBC reports.

Both anecdotes involve white people calling other white people monkeys, with your admitting it would be different if the people being called monkeys were black. Not really that separate.

Except one was just a joke about a pet name for a daughter because of a comment about some public official saying he called his grandkids Apes or something

The other was merely an example of how a non-racist meaning behind something would be interpreted as racist because the color of the person involved, ignoring the context and meaning of the person who said it, even though the person's intentions would have been the same in both situations.

Together it's just "He called her money and she got offended!"

Will Trump get to watch a private basketball game between Kim and Rodman now?

Maybe it will be Franco and Rogen's "The Interview" sequel.
