Oh, and per the report, it wasn't just "We want anyone besides Clinton" but Putin thought favorably of Trump and compared him to Pro-Russian political figures like Silvio Berlusconi and Gerhard Schroeder. Russia was looking to bolster Trump even during the primaries. Putin strongly dislikes Clinton but he wasn't settling for "anyone but..." but knew that he could make use of Trump over Rubio, Cruz or the other ninety-million GOP candidates that year.

It wouldn't be twitter without threats of violence and death, that's kind of the whole point of the thing from what I can tell...

Well that and traffic updates, but those are pretty much the same thing.

So have the president giving a $12 billion payoff in taxpayer money to farmers hurt by his politically motivated tariffs and 60% of Republicans think that Putin is an American ally.

Michael Cohen supposedly says that Trump absolutely knew before hand about his campaign meeting with the Russian lawyer in Trump Tower and approved of his people going ahead with it to get dirt on Clinton. This is despite Trump's repeated insistence that he knew nothing about it. Cohen is (again, supposedly) prepared to talk to Mueller about it, saying that he was in the room when Trump heard the offer and approved it.

In related news, Natalia Veselnitskaya, the lawyer in question, is much more closely tied to the Russian government than he previously let on. I mean, I know I'm shocked to hear this...

This is the meeting that was set up with an email exchange that included...
Quote:
This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump
...which is weird because I keep getting told that Putin just really had no interest in helping Trump.

To be fair though, when you claim to be the alpha male, make a ton of enemies, and constantly throw your allies under the bus for your benefit, it's going to be hard to find someone to lie to the cops for you.

Supposedly, apparently, supposedly. Kinda like everything else being tossed around. You can "suppose" anything, can't you? Gee. I can't think of any reason Cohen, facing disbarment, and numerous other charges might be willing to make stuff up in order to get a deal. Can you? Sucker.

Where the heck are you getting this? You increasingly love to put quotes here, without bothering to source the quote, link to it, or (in this case) even bother to say who the quote is from? Is this the Attorney? Someone she was talking to via email? A reporter repeating a claim about the exchange? There's zero context in the actual quote itself.

Guys. It's funny because I keep saying the same thing, and several of you just ignore it and keep repeating the same stuff as though I hadn't already responded. The Russian's goal is to erode confidence and power of the US president, whomever that may be. They, like most, assumed it would be Clinton, and thus set out to discredit her. Doing this "helped Trump", but was not the goal. Not sure how many times I have to say this.

After Trump won, they switched to a different tactic, playing on the Left's "OMG! Russians helped Trump win!!!", and what a shocker, suddenly there are all these leaks and quotes saying "We totally helped Trump win". You can almost hear the freaking winking going on. Um... Ever notice that none of these quotes or statements seem to come from any time period prior to Trump actually winning the election? You'd think if the super secret goal of Russia was to get Trump to win, we'd be able to find something leaked from conversations prior to him, you know... winning.

Again. Suckers.

I don't bother linking half the time because most people here don't care and know I'm getting it from a standard news organization and Gbaji will just throw a fit and deny anything is legitimate anyway.

The Director of Intelligence's comprehensive report states that Putin not only wanted Clinton to not win (or to be damaged) but had a clear preference for Trump to win as a politician he knew would be favorable to pro-Russian policies. This was in the report. But, of course, that doesn't count in Gbaji-World.

Interesting, I think we should do what Mike Pence says in this video of Mike Pence.
Mike Pence wrote:
Further, the Presidents repeated lies to the American people in this matter compound the case against him as they demonstrate his failure to protect the institution of the presidency as the 'inspiring supreme symbol of all that is highest in our American ideas'. Leaders affect the lives of families far beyond their own 'private life'.

I tried to find the quote you used, and couldn't. Not that I spent a ton of time, but still. If you've bothered to quote something, why not link to the source you're quoting?

Quote:
The Director of Intelligence's comprehensive report states that Putin not only wanted Clinton to not win (or to be damaged) but had a clear preference for Trump to win as a politician he knew would be favorable to pro-Russian policies. This was in the report. But, of course, that doesn't count in Gbaji-World.

And it also says this:

Intelligence Report wrote:
Moscow’s approach evolved over the course of the campaign based on Russia’s understanding of the electoral prospects of the two main candidates. When it appeared to Moscow that Secretary Clinton was likely to win the election, the Russian influence campaign began to focus more on undermining her future presidency.

The language they use is very specific, and not intended to be expanded on, exaggerated, or inferred. You'll note that they never once say "they wanted Trump to win". The language is this:

Quote:
We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump

Of course they did. He was the underdog through the entire process. The had a clear preference, not on who they wanted to become president (that's nowhere in the document) but on who they were helping. They meddled in the election, with this goal:

Quote:
Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency.

It's pretty freaking clear but you've never bothered to read the document, despite me linking to it multiple times. I suppose you just prefer to use the much more selective quotes you find in news articles.

That's the stated goal as the intelligence community defines it. Again. It's not "they wanted Trump to be president".

Even this statement:

Quote:
We also assess Putin and the Russian Government aspired to help President-elect Trump’s election chances when possible by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him.

Bolding mine.

Doesn't say "they wanted Trump to win". They wanted to give the guy on the bottom the best chance, specifically to weaken whomever won. It would not have mattered who was in which place. That's what you guys aren't getting. You assume the thought process was "we like Trump, so let's help him win". That's not it though. It was more like "Let's ***** with the US election by attacking whomever is in the lead so that whomever wins will be damaged and have a weaker presidency". Again, note the language "by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him". They were not pushing positive messages about Trump, but negative messages about Clinton.

I get it. You desperately want/need to paint Trump as some sort of Manchurian Candidate for the Russians. But that's not what the intelligence assessments actually say.

What's funny to me about all of this is that the whole "help Trump" thing has always been about throwing a wrench into the election process and not really about wanting Trump in the White House. I recall reading more than a few editorials on Left leaning media sources back in late Summer of 2015 arguing that liberals (in and out of the media) should support Trump in the primary, since that would give Clinton the best shot. The theory being that Trump was so bad that Clinton would just waltz into the White House. And I recall commenting on this, and how the media was soft balling him, giving coverage of his outrageous stuff but not really condemning it. Talk about a case of getting what you wished for (or were pretending to wish for in this case).

It looks like the Russians were more or less doing the same thing. Different motivations, but again their support for Trump wasn't about Trump. It was about Clinton. It was always about Clinton.

They wanted the guy at the bottom to win, that was Trump at the bottom, ergo, they wanted Trump to win.
