So, here in the US today (or, last night, technically) was the season finale. My brother has been watching Doctor Who for a few seasons now. I had been watching bits and pieces of the previous seasons as I came across them, but didn't keep up with it. But with the end of the last season and this season starting up, I figured I'd watch it. Overall I really liked this season, and Matt Smith as well.

But what I'm wondering is, how do the Doctor Who fans, specifically those fans over in Europe, like the new series and the new Doctor? I only hear what my brother has to say, and he likes the new show, but mentions that a lot of people weren't thrilled about the new Doctor (I guess there are a lot of David Tennant fans out there?)

So, what's the word from over there?

I liked this season but I think Matt Smith is kind of meh. He's not bad, just kind of bland after watching Tennant's silly quirkiness for so long.

Honestly, David Tennant was so awesome as The Doctor that it probably would have been a bit of a let down no matter who they got to play the next one.

I prefer Smith over Tennant, after this season. He adds a bit more excentricity to the role and that's never a bad thing for the Doctor.

I hope he can keep the role for some time, they are running out of Doctors after all, next season should be interesting.

This season of Dr.Who is pretty ****** tbh. The current writer is more or less incompetent.

Was there any specific reason(s) why you didn't like this season's story? I really can't see it being *****************

The first two episodes I might have agree with you, but the season as a whole was enjoyable to me. Most episodes were very good imo, not entirely the same as the previous seasons thankfully.

I haven't watched this season, but it can't be any worse than the last was at its end. That was some of the most absurdly ***** **** I've ever seen.

I'm getting a bit tired of the whole, "end of the universe as we know it, but I'll fiddle around with this thingy over here, and the everything goes back to normal" shtick. Nothing that ever happens on that show ever has any lasting consequences.

I enjoyed Matt Smith's performance. He's no David Tennant, but by the same token, David Tennant is no Tom Baker. That's the whole point, the idea is that the Doctor gets a new personality with his regenerations.

As far as Stephen Moffat's writing, again, he's no Russel T Davies. I'm sure the next season will pick up. Hopefully with much less shark jumping and more "I wear a Fez now, Fezzes are cool"...

How can you guys not like Moffat? The man is made of win. Atleast, the episodes he himself wrote. The other series he's doing is also win if the first episode is any indicator. People should check it out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_%28TV_series%29

As for Matt Smith, I loved him. But then again, a big part of that has to do with the companions. The doctor just isn't very entertaining when he's running around being all emo about having to be alone, and last "season" was pretty much exactly that, so I grew kind of sour. The new companion though is brilliant. Easily one of my favorites. I also like this new doctor cause he is more of a geek. I mean, how can you top that goofy grin he has when he says "bow ties are cool"?

I liked the first episode when he went on about what foods he likes/dislikes. (How can someone not like bacon?)

Unfortunately when they re-air the episode in the US, they cut that out to make up the extra time for commercials. I guess the first episode ran a bit longer, and now they cut it down to make it fit in a 1 hour time slot with six 3-4 minute commercial breaks. Seems to be a ton of commercials on BBC America. (Luckily the season finale was sponsored with limited commercial breaks).

I can see that being a real problem if I had trusted BBC America for my Doctor fix, but I downloaded them a few hours after they premiered in England.

I loves Moffat. Ever since he did Coupling! Also I saw Sherlock, it looks promising...

This season wasn't bad. I swear to god though if they ever do another one of those "don't look at the statue" episodes, I will destroy something. Like england maybe. At least there were less pigpeople this time.

I have a big problem with the whole tardis regenerated after crash thing. It's not supposed to regenerate, the doctor stole it out of a repair/scrap yard, and it has a busted chameleon circuit so thats why it always looks like a police box. regenerating tardis's pretty much ignores that whole bit of thestory line, which is important on occasion.

Seems like there are definitly many loose ends from previous seasons (the recent ones no less) that they aren't going to touch though.

I agree with you actually. I did like how for the wedding the TARDIS was the something old, new, borrowed and blue all at once, though. :P

There's gonna be more of them, the season finale retconned the entire Weeping Angel species back into existence.

I believe the circuit can actually be fixed, in fact I remember seeing it an episode or something from the producers he just doesnt want to fix it/or did fix it and left it the same because he likes the police box look. So technically they didnt throw that part out.

I think that bit of info was in a cast interview during this season.

Although a TARDIS is supposed to blend inconspicuously into whatever environment it turns up in, the Doctor's TARDIS retains the shape of a police box because of a fault which occurred in the first Doctor Who episode, "An Unearthly Child". The exact nature of the fault has never been specified. The ability to alter its appearance was first mentioned in the second episode of the series, where the First Doctor and Susan noted it was malfunctioning. It was first given a general term of a "camouflage unit" in The Time Meddler (1965). The name was first specified as the "chameleon circuit" in the 1975 Target Books novelisation of Terror of the Autons, and this term eventually made its way on screen in Logopolis (1981). The circuit was called a "cloaking device" by the Eighth Doctor in the Doctor Who television movie, but is again referred to as a chameleon circuit in the 2005 series episode "Boom Town".

The Doctor attempts to repair the circuit in Logopolis and Attack of the Cybermen, but the successful transformation of the TARDIS into the shapes of a pipe organ, a painted Welsh dresser (much to the amusement of Peri and the Sixth Doctor's annoyance) and an elaborate gateway in the latter serial was followed by a return to the Police Box shape. The circuit was also repaired during the Virgin New Adventures novels, but again the TARDIS's shape was eventually set back to a police box shape. In "Boom Town" (2005), the Ninth Doctor implied that he had stopped trying to fix the circuit quite some time ago because he'd become rather fond of the police box shape — a claim the Eighth Doctor made in the 1996 television movie.

I didn't necessarily mean that was the only place the info was given. I'm not a big fan of Doctor Who, I only saw this season, and bits and pieces of a couple previous seasons. I just remember hearing it and could have sworn I heard it during the numerous cast interviews they had during the commercial breaks.
