I have no problem with promotions when they actually tie in to the movies. But product placement for the sake of placement bugs me. You're going to have a bunch of cars in the movie? Cool, let companies pay you to feature those vehicles in those scenes. There's a scene in a movie theater? Cool, let a company pay you to determine what snacks the theater-goers are eating. Etc.

I just worry that we're starting to enter territory where the movies become big ads ("Nokia is from Sweden!").

I can't comment on how bad this was in Man of Steel, not having seen it, but the promotional ad campaigns around the film are pretty extensive. I'm more worried about future directions than the situation as it is now.


That is an interesting tidbit. I don't mind product placement so much as long as it's not blatant (e.g. not actually pointed out in the movie). The commercial tie-ins that I keep seeing are kind of annoying though, but I guess not much more so than any other bad commercial.

Only thing I noticed besides a Lexcorp truck was the IHop, which I did think must have payed a ton given there are two scenes there.

The movie in general gets an enthusiastic meh from me. The story in the latest Transformers movie was more complex than in this movie. That pretty much leaves the action scenes, which while well made, were overdone and tended to last too long. The romance with Lois was so forced as to be laughable, and was a terrible waste of Amy Adams abilities. The thing that really bothered me though, was the blatant destruction of buildings, vehicles, and the massive casualties that would result from it all. They went out of their way to fight in the most populated areas they could, and that just doesn't jive with the way Superman operates. I also wasn't a fan of Superman killing, even if it was setup in such a way that he didn't have much choice.

As to product placement, the IHOP was fairly hard to miss, they must have spent a fortune for that much screen time. I didn't really notice any of the others though.

As a side note, I don't know if it was just the theater I was in or a problem with the movie itself, but this is easily the loudest movie I've ever been to. It was loud enough that it gave me a headache for several hours after the movie ended. I've been to concerts that didn't put out as much sound as this movie did.

Went and saw it.
It was an OK movie. I think it was better then some of the ones in the past. I'm not a huge DC fan, but I know how Superman stories work. The movie was a bit darker imo.
I did think that it was a bit much destruction, but if an alien race showed up and wanted to tera-form the planet I don't think they would go about it in a non-destruction way. There would just be to many people in areas to evact them all -.-

Dark Horse is kind of a DC affiliate, so I might as well put the trailer for RIPD here. Besides, we already mentioned Ryan Reynolds so appropriate either way. Or not. Don't care. I read the comics, and the premise is pretty straight forward and interesting enough to consider it. Though admittedly, it will be a pretty standard action flick with explosions and ridiculous special effects. I enjoyed the books enough to see the movie, but not enough to see it full price if that makes sense. If you must know, it's basically Men In Black, but with dead things instead of alien things. So if you liked MIB, there's a pretty good chance this'll be your kind of flick.

Please respect the spoiler tag for films that have only been out one weekend. I get that at some point spoilers become irrelivent, But also understand that if you spoil a movie I am waiting to see, you will have to breath through a tube for the next 30 years, on account of the whole "you being buried alive somewhere under 34 metric tons of concrete with only tofu and stale water to eat and drink, and a constant looped recording of ' I will not spoil movies that Kao want's to see yet' playing in the background" thing. That would probably put a cramp on your movie viewing habits to say the least.

There was no line said of that. When he 1st meets Zod, he says something like "you must be Zod" and the chick was all like "***** IT IS GENERAL ZOD, M.F GET IT RIGHT!"

That last part might be wrong. That is when the screen and power cut out due to a storm rolling through She did correct him tho :3
