I want to say that I'll never see that lost hour again, but the reality is it was either this or King of the Hill. So, yannow. Better than King of the Hill. Gives off a Supernatural vibe, so I'm guessing it'll follow a Monster-of-the-Week schedule until the end where it'll focus on the final Big Bad. I think the most bizarre thing was the Headless Rambo at the end. I guess I'll give it another two or three weeks. Not like there's anything else on that I know of at this time slot.
Major weapon pet peeve with the rocket launcher shotgun.
Not sure if it is weirder seeing Orlando Jones or John Cho in either of their roles here.

Yeah. I got a definite Supernatural vibe from it as well. And honestly, if they can pull that off, it'll be a pretty decent series. I was kinda "meh" watching the pilot (really should have been a two hour thing given how much they had to cover and how little story they really did), but the scenes from next week were more promising (loved the whole "Why'd you throw away your gun? I fired it. But you only fired one shot. It can fire more than one?!" bit). I think it's got potential at least.

I finally got around to watching the first episode. I actually thought it was kinda cool, but it's on Fox, so I wonder how long it'll last.
I watched the first two episodes and while it wasn't terrible, I doubt that I'll keep watching it. It already feels a bit formulaic and I don't see it improving.

Watched episode one today. Thought they did a balanced job of giving Crane continuing culture shock while not letting the story get bogged down while he freaks out about the future. Also thought the scriptwriters' phrasing for his speech was ye olde worlde enough to give him historical flavor without actually being accurate enough to be unintelligible to a modern audience.
Whoever plays Crane has a wonderful deep and resonate voice which helps with his screen charisma.

It isn't amazing by any stretch, but it is watchable which is more than I can say about many shows. The demons and revisionist history are certainly worth at least one watchthrough.
Much better than I originally thought, but that's more to do with it settling into it's groove than the mess that was the first episode.

Yup. First episode wasn't super great, but had some promise. And I think they've done well with the subsequent episodes. They've handled the Crane character very well IMO. It's not too overdone, but just enough that it has amusing bits and helps carry the story as well (like the whole Boston Tea Party thing). Still not sure how we'll they'll manage the magic/demons bits. What makes shows like this work is finding a consistent set of rules for such things (which is why shows like Buffy and Supernatural worked for so long), but we haven't seen enough to know yet if they'll pull that off well. I am hopeful. So far the show has been fun to watch.
