Went and saw Gravity in 3-D last night. Intense sums it up pretty good.

That just means they get to build newer and better ones, right? Plus space explosions.

Are lasers involved, or is it one of those realistic ones where you can't hear **** because of vacuum, etc.?

I haven't seen it yet, but have been told, and read, that they were true to the whole "no sound in a vacuum" thing.

I'll probably watch this when it comes out on HBO or some other movie channel.

You can hear what they can hear inside their spacesuits and that's it. The shots when in the background you see the shrapnels of destroyed satellites tear the shuttle apart and don't hear anything of that happening were just awesome.

I liked the movie and it may be the first time I saw Bullock in a movie and actually thought her performance was great.

One of the few films I'll highly reccomend you go see in IMAX 3D. Best visual experience since Avatar.

The movie is pretty great too. If you liked Children of Men, its by the same director, & his opening shot is like 18 mins with no cuts. Its fantastic.

I would at least see it on the big screen for the spaciness. I'm not at all sure how good of a film it would be without the audio/visual effects.

The least believable part of the movie was Clooney playing an astronaut. He sexy as hell for an old guy, but still, he's 52.

Chris Hadfield is 54 and was at the ISS earlier this year. One of the flight engineers on the expedition is 60.

Go figure. I guess I just assumed Astronauts, like athletes, were unusable past a certain point.

The age thing hit me in the movie when Bullock pulled out the operations manual and began to read it. I was thinking to myself that I'd not be able to read that manual without my reading glasses.

Astronauts, like pilots, need to pass a flight physical which includes a 20/20 eyesight requirement. If they need to wear glasses or lenses to achieve 20/20 eyesight, they are required to wear the glasses or lenses while at work (which would be the entire duration of the mission in the case of astronauts). I'm guessing NASA, should they decide to hire an astronaut without perfect eyesight for their million dollar mission, will pay for a PRK/LASIK treatment.

Or have them wear prescription goggles like some sports players use.

at the very beginning there is a scroll that says something like:

space

there is no water

there is no air

there is no sound

it is the most dangerous environment for humans

that was from memory and I saw it a few weeks ago so I proable misquoted parts of it. was a pretty good flick. i saw it in 2d (3d gives me a headache) but i considered going to see it again in 3d or imax. the visuals are just that good. i am not a big bolluck fan, but she impressed me in this role. clooney was ok.
