I took tomorrow off of work to get some work done on my car (honestly, I just wanted a three day weekend, but it's a good excuse). If I get my car back early enough I'll be heading to the theater tomorrow, if not, I'll have to wait until Saturday. I've been trying to avoid any and all spoilers, but the little bit I've heard has made me fairly excited to see it.

I'll try to keep it spoiler free. First and foremost, some of the best action sequences to date. The fights flowed well and they actually looked like fights, which is pretty new to the movies. To date the rest of the movies, while enjoyable, kind of dropped the ball in that department. Let me put it this way: Remember that fight sequence with Scarlet Johansson in Iron Man 2, where she was incredibly stiff and ended almost every sequence in the three-point Spider-Man pose to show a shot of her cleavage? Here she actually looked like she was capable of fighting and there wasn't much of that pose, though that's not to say you don't see the chest crack more than a few times. And seeing the Widow's Bite in action was great as well. And Cap's fights were five star.

There was a lot of little things to look out for, especially if you actually follow the books. The first bad guy made me almost squeal. There's another character that pops up often during the movie that took me almost the entire movie to figure out who it was, but once I did that was another enjoyable realization. Not anything the character does or says, just their name kept rolling around in my head until it kind of clicked. It's kind of obscure. Another character introduced isn't that obscure, and you can tell they'll become much more integrated into the franchise in the near future. Kind of liked this particular one, they didn't just throw them at the audience to overwhelm. A slow build up for them, but once you put it together it's quite nice. Another character that kind of annoyed me in the first Captain America movie reappeared here and while not quite redeemed themselves, I'd guess they're building them up slowly for a future movie to really hit the nail.

Keeping this spoiler free is tough, ********

Sometimes I take my knowledge for granted, so the (and let's face it, inevitable and therefor not a spoiler) unmasking of Winter Soldier wasn't particularly shocking for me, but there were a lot of gasps in the audience. I almost turned to the person next to me and asked "Really?!" when I realized it was a soccer mom. So, if you're not familiar with the story line then the reveal was quite good. But, yannow, that's third party observation so your mileage may vary on that one. There was also a scene near the middle where I was on the verge of screaming the spoiler out. But again, clearly obvious to you if you follow, but pretty well done if you're going in blind.

The jokes were good. Kind of hard to really describe it without going into details and people's senses of humor are different. They made me chuckle, so take that as you will.

One thing that did get to me was some of the sound effects. It's such a minor thing that I feel bad for being annoyed by it, but it's kind of glaring. Just way too many metal-on-metal dings throughout. I get that the shield is metal, but it wouldn't make the same sound ricocheting off a wall as it does off someone's stomach, yannow? The music was pretty meh as well, but it got the job done. As a purist, I was kind of put off by some of the decisions they made with Falcon, but it's not like they didn't work. Going in blind, his fight scenes were awesome.

Obviously stick around after the credits. I can't believe, even after all this time, people still leave. Leads directly into Avengers II. Though, the main speaker took me a minute to recognize and when I did I enjoyed that little egg too.

Like I said, I'm trying to avoid spoilers so if I were anyone else I'd probably avoid Agents of SHIELD for the next few weeks. The events are, no doubt, going to overlap.

Good, good movie, and they're really building the whole IP for the long haul.

Yeah. Got that impression from watching the last couple episodes (especially this weeks, plus the trailer bit for Cap at the end). Not sure if I should be irritated at the blatant marketing pressuring me to have to watch the film to enjoy the series, or overjoyed at how well they're timing and linking things between the two (and sadly, I'm leaning in the latter direction, because I'm a sucker I guess). Suppose I'll have to check if Cinepolis has a showing for tomorrow.

Ya, Agents of SHIELD will be a lot different after this movie. Although, if you've been following the show, no doubt you'll be clued in to who/what the Clairvoyent actually is & what some folks are really up too. Sort of bumbed about Sittwell being a bad guy.

Really liked the movie. Awesome fight & action sequences, decent plot. Colbie Smuthers & Scarjo kicking ***. Lots of Robert Redford & Samuel L Jackson chewing scenery. Neither are bad things. Lots of easter eggs (Sharon Carter, Crossbones (eventually), Arnim Zola, Batrock the Leaper, a Stephen Strange reference, Baron Strucker, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver)

About my only gripe, besides some jokes that fell flat, was the 2nd after credits scene should have ended the movie instead of making us wait until after the credits. Bucky figuring out who he really was is kind of a given considering how it ended >.<

I know Chris Evans is contracted for 3 more flicks (assuming Avengers 2, Cap 3, & Avengers 3) but it kinda seems like they're setting Bucky up to take over.

Great movie. I might have to disagree about the shield sound effect though. It is supposed to be made of Vibranium and in that iteration it absorbs all "vibrations." (I watched Cap 1 on TV last night so I had that fresh in my mind) Therefore should make the same sound every time.

Quite a few of the references I nearly flipped out about, I felt pretty alone in the movie theater though. I think I was the only comic book geek in there... Anthony Mackie was genuinely cool, Scarlette Johansen did more than be fap material for once. They even managed to plug a few characters without mentioning their actual names which I really appreciated.

I absolutely positively can't wait to see Agents of SHIELD next week since this is obviously going to fill the plot hole at the end the last episode. Funny how that show went from "meh" to "I think I can tolerate this" in such a short period.

Any who, the movie is worth seeing.

Sure. But do you know what sound waves are? Doesn't bother me in the same way that sound effects for space battles don't bother me, but if we're going to be nit picky...

Honestly, once the put the whole Tahiti and Skye stuff on more of the back burner and moved forward with their broader bad guy plot(s), it got much more interesting. Of course, one could argue that they had to time this portion of the series to the release of Cap2, so that other filler/background stuff was kinda necessary.

It was a solid movie, not great, but it's definitely worth seeing. Not being one to follow the comics, I'm sure I missed quite a few things that you guys are getting wet over. The blonde woman that was living next door to Steve, I'm sure would have been something to get excited over if I had any idea who she was beyond a Shield sleeper agent. To me, it was a pretty good action movie, and a decent way to spend a rainy Friday afternoon. I'm more interested in seeing how this affects Agents of Shield, since it pretty much has to change the entire show.

Side note on the sound of Cap's shield. I read this thread in the theater while waiting for the trailers to start, so I was actually paying special attention to it. The sounds are similar, but there are distinct tones, depending on what was being smacked with it.

Edit: Fixed to avoid paradoxes.

I tried to take today off, but my boss asked me to reconsider. I'll have to see about seeing the movie this weekend, or maybe Monday.

I haven't seen the second Thor movie yet. I want to see that before the next movie, not because I think I won't understand something... but just because. I'll have to ask my brother if he has it.

I don't think there's any reason to wait to see Cap2 until you've seen Thor2, but I'd definitely see it before GotG or Avengers2. Events in Thor2 don't really impact the whole Shield/Cap thing much. But they will presumably impact events in the other films.

Oh. But it's a great film anyway, so get to it!

I thought Thor 2 was great. It's very different from the first one.

It's essentially just what you get when you take the Kenneth Branagh out of Thor 1, add in more Darcy just for the sake of more Darcy, and start out with developed characters, so you don't need that awkwardness.

Did not come around to seeing Cap 2 yet but want to do so ASAP.

Does it a better job at explaining why the other Avengers (apart from Black Widow) don't help out? Are the events from Thor 2, Cap 2 and Iron Man 3 happening simultaniously? I don't mind this too much since it's basically the same in the comics where other characters appear when it suits the plot and otherwise just stay in their corner of New York. Smiley: lol

Simple Answer: Probably.

Complicated Answer: Well, if Cap 2 either takes place chronologically before Thor 2 or Iron Man 3, or simultaneously, then sure. And even if Cap 3 takes place much later, due to the plot of Cap 2, it could be hand waived away with a simple "they weren't getting their messages."

I think one of the more exciting things happens during the first post credits scene in Cap 2, & it isn't Scarlett Witch, Quicksilver, or Strucker: Its that Hydra has Loki's staff from Avengers. And Loki's staff? That probably has the mind gem in it. So the Tesseract was the space gem & the Aether was also an Infinity gem...

3 more Infinity Gems to go.

Let me just pull an answer out of my *** and say that the lack of interaction probably has a lot to do with the relative distance between the members and timing. Tony is on the West Coast, Steve is on the East, and Thor is in London and other dimensions. Keep in mind that the Quinjet hasn't been invented yet, nor has it been crashed twenty minutes later because that's what they do. Quinjets crash. It's a feature. There's also no real unique Avengers communication apparati, and in IM3 Stark is laying low being dead and Steve is being tracked by SHIELD/Hydra so neither can really just pick up a phone without jeopardizing their operations, and who would they call anyway? Banner goes above and beyond staying off the grid, and then there's Hawkguy. (Besides, Clint is part of SHIELD so Steve probably wouldn't have called him anyway, all things considered)

Anyway, I think we can all agree that Stan Lee is Uatu.

I really liked this one. I liked the first one too, but I think this one was better. The plot was good, the bad guy has a really cool last name, there were twists and turns that weren't super obviously telegraphed before they happened, and a few things that didn't make sense before suddenly made more sense. I'd say it's worth seeing in theater.

Picked up the second Thor on the way home from the Parent's place after Sunday dinner. But Game of Thrones tonight so I will probably watch it tomorrow (got a day off). I'll probably go see the second Captain America next weekend. And I'll just avoid watching Agents of SHIELD (just in case) until I see it. It's all set to record anyway.

It was really good. It ran long (as Marvel films tend to), but I remember realizing "wow, this has been running long, but it doesn't feel like we're near the end", but not feeling like it was dragging at all. Even the slowish parts still moved well. Tons of reveals and easter eggs. The epitaph was a really good one! Bible quotes are free domain, right?

Quote:

I don't know about "better job". I think at a certain point you do just have to accept that the characters appearing in the film are going to have a lot to do with the name of the film. It was "better" in that the events in Cap2 occurred in a relatively short time frame, and under circumstances which justified why they couldn't necessarily call for help. So more that it wasn't as much of an issue, compared to say Iron Man (where it was more about Tony being self centered and largely unwilling to ask for help even when he desperately needs it).

Assuming we can use Marvel: Agents of Shield as a marker, the events in Thor2 happened first (cause they've already had impact on the series). The events in Cap2 are occurring right now. They timed the series and release of the film such that, assuming from the description of the next episode, they'll intersect in some way. A character who has appeared a number of times in the show has a significant role in the film, so they have to address that.

I'm assuming Iron Man 3 occurred in the past as well. Given that elements of the Extremis stuff has appeared as backstory (and sidestory, and sometimes even frontstory) in Agents, we can assume that story happened already.

TirithRR wrote:

I'm not sure how much seeing the episode first might spoiler stuff in the film. They'll probably just have some parallel relationship, but until it airs, there's no way to be sure. In addition to a character reveal, there are massive changes introduced in the film that will presumably directly affect the series. How they implement this is still kinda up in the air. Should be interesting to see. And yeah. Assuming you plan on seeing Cap2, I'd do it before continuing with the shows episodes. Just in case...

I forget which, but thanks to either Netflix or Hulu tonight's episode of Agents of SHIELD has been leaked, and as we have guessed it would seriously behoove you to avoid it if you haven't seen Cap 2 yet. Apparently it happens simultaneously with the events of the movie.

They really should take a two week break when a movie is released to avoid this kind of situation. You want to build a universe of interconnected stories, which is kind of awesome, but at the same time you gotta take into account some people are stragglers so it's going to hurt your ratings.

Well, probably not but people are going to complain either way about spoilers. I've done my part to warn.

I don't know, if anything I think Agents of SHIELD this week gives more misinformation about what really happened in Cap 2 than spoilers. Fury is alive. Cap is Alive. And Hydra appears defeated in Cap 2, while Agents of SHIELD shows this is far from the case. Honestly, I think this was WAY more fluid than the post Thor 2 episode, which was about an Asgardian Berserker Stick and didn't mention anything about Thor 2.

If you followed the show and didn't see the movie, I don't think you need to worry about not watching this episode at all. If saw the movie and didn't follow the show, well, you'll have know ******* clue.
