Not going to make a thread for each of them.

Defiance Season 2 started up. Nothing real interesting happening, Miss Mayor now runs the ***** house.

I missed Dominion, luckily they actually run it (I missed Helix because I was out of town for months and my DVR started deleting things, and they still haven't reran the episodes yet.)

In Dominion, God disappears (some 25 years before the start of the series). Angels blame humans, and wage war. Gabriel leads the war. Michael stands with humanity and helps them fight back. Now the world is filled with evil-angel possessed humans.

Dominion is a TV series that continues events which occurred in the film Legion. I wouldn't necessarily recommend buying the film, but if you can catch it on netflix or cable or something, it'll fill in some of the back story a bit. The film tells the story of angels deciding to wipe out humanity from the point of view of a group of people who just happen to be at a diner when it all happens. Of course, one of the women is pregnant with some kind of mystical child that represents the hope of humanity (cliche, yeah), which is why Michael (the arcangel) shows up to protect them (well, the kid anyway). Film ends with pretty much everyone getting wiped out, the woman giving birth to the child (and dying IIRC), and Michael transferring some mystical tattoos onto the one surviving human and putting him in charge of protecting the child. The series just fast forwards 25 years.

I'd watched the film on cable some late night a few years back, so it was an interesting experience watching the pilot episode and thinking "wait! This seems really familiar to me". Kinda cool. The pilot was actually pretty good. Way too early to tell how things will go down the line, but I didn't see anything that just screamed cheesy or stupid (which is a rare thing for most TV shows), so that's a big plus. Honestly the only thing that was off about it was constantly expecting Anthony Head to have an English accent. Was jarring that he didn't. Dunno. Too much Buffy, I guess.

Not sure about Falling Skies. The direction isn't looking so great IMO. I'll post in the thread about it though.

Oh. And Defiance was OK. Basically spent the first episode putting everyone back into the story. We'll see how things shake out as the season goes along. I was a bit disappointed that they just kinda hand waved away the consequences of a lot of the events at the end of last season, but that was about it.

Is Legion the one with Paul Bettany? Cause I've seen that one. Or are we talking about one of the Sci-Fi/Asylum angel movies (One had Christopher Walken, right?)

Finished watching the Pilot. DVR'd it on Sunday when it re-ran.

My only complaint was how they started right in and were rattling off names and places that I had no idea what they were. It's not something I like. In the end it doesn't matter, and things become clearer as the show went on, but it still makes me feel like I'm missing something and pulls me out of the story as I try to figure out what it was.

Both shows are currently on my list of stuff to watch each week. Dominion only because it's right after Defiance. I never watched Legion, but I was already aware of the plot. It just screamed crappy sci-fi/horror movie to me when I saw the trailers so I never bothered to watch it. I'm actually a bit surprised to find that they based a show around it.

Defiance isn't nearly as good as I would like it to be, but SciFi has put out far worse shows. Honestly, I'm far more interested in the new episodes of Suits and Graceland on USA. I've been a fan Suits from day one, and Graceland is one of the better cop shows to come out in recent years, even if the plot can be a bit hard to believe at times.

Huh. I didn't know the two were linked. That's kinda cool, I guess.

So what's with cable companies starting to advertise *** and side boob as "Nudity". Trying hard to compete with HBO/Starz/Showtime without actually showing nipples and flaccid dongs?

I have a feeling that they are going to do the "he/she is really an angel" thing often. I missed a few moments at the end of the episode when my cable box froze and rebooted.

Episode two of Dominion wasn't half bad. Although it might get boring fast if they switch to politics, with an occasional fight inbetween, it does seem that the creators tried to avoid that. Enough interesting angles in the story to keep watching, for now.

I've got a question about the latest episode of Defiance. I don't know if my DVR @#%^ed up or if SciFi screwed up, or if the show was supposed to be that way.

Irisa shoots herself, much to the dismay of the little ghost Irathient that is following her around telling her to kill people.

It fades to black, she's on a ship above the Earth, an Irathient that looks just like her is talking about how the people of that world have barely crossed their own oceans. The other person talks about how they are supposed to terraform worlds ahead of some fleet, which will arrive in 3000 years. Safe to assume this was pretty much 3000 years in the past.

But mid sentence (mid word) it instantly cuts back to Irisa regenerating after shooting herself in the face.

I thought something went wrong with the recording, so I tried to rewind and it wouldn't go back before the regenerating scene. So I thought maybe something messed up with my recording.

Then during the next commercial break it flashed a 3 second long scene of former miss mayor and new mayor at a carnival/festival with KONGOS, "Come With Me Now" playing, then went back to the commercials.

Second bit may have been a burp by your provider. The first part is about right. I got that this was some kind of memory from the artifacts leaking into her mind while it healed her. I got that this was more about back story explaining how things got so messed up in the first place. The Votans were presumably attempting to find an uninhabited world to relocate to, failed, and then had some arguments among the survey team over what to do about the folks (us) living on the planet the fleet was heading to. So the natives were pretty primitive when the team was there, but they couldn't know how advanced they'd be by the time the fleet arrived. Which presumably lead to all the various plots and whatnot going on behind the scenes. .

Um... But to answer your question. That's about how I saw it as well. So I don't think you missed anything.

The odd Defiance "Come with me now" blurp seems to happen every single episode near a commercial break on the last half.

In Defiance, I am liking the family feud going on, and the struggle for power in the family company between father, son, and mother.

Dominion is OK. They killed off the little girl Smiley: frown, though that was pretty much expected since the second episode. I hope some of the build up pays off soon, some of these scenes are sluggish and boring.

Speaking of SyFy shows, this:

is going to be a thing. I liked the movie, so I'll at least give it a chance. I don't know if they can pull off a series without it getting a bit repetitive though.

I didn't read any titles (some reason, titles don't show up when watching or previewing them on my iPhone). Just started playing the trailer. Could tell right away what it was.

I'll admit I'm interested. Seems to be full of a lot of non leads from other science fiction shows that have ended or been canceled.

Defiance and Dominion have been holding my interest pretty well.

And Jaime Murray and Nicole Munoz bath scenes... nice. I mean, Alak's mom has been doing them all series long, but her basically (probably NSFW) rubbing her breasts in Christi's face was fun. (Ya, I know that was a few episodes ago, but it was worth mentioning).

Dominion has been focusing a lot on the corrupt Father and Son. Not a complaint, but not much real "Chosen-One" stuff going on relative to everything else.

This starts up Tomorrow night. 9PM EST .

Edit:
I see the video has since been removed. It's the 12 Monkey's series.

Sci-Fi has a number of shows starting up this year. It almost seems like too many for one year... are they just tossing out a handful and waiting to see which stick to the wall?

12 Monkeys - Already mentioned earlier, I missed the showing because my DVR screwed up. I'll record it tonight when it airs around 11:30 and watch it either then or tomorrow morning.

Childhood's End

The Expanse

Olympus

Killjoys

Dark Matter

All of them sound like they could work well. It seems like an awfully big line up for a single year.

Ah. 12 monkeys. I knew there was some show that was coming up in mid Jan, but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. I'll have to catch the re-run of it as well.

I watched the first episode of 12 Monkeys. It wasn't terrible. I still don't see how they can manage to make it into a multi-season show without jerking people around. I can see a lot of what happened in the first episode being repeated. They do something that is supposed to fix things, but it doesn't.
