I'm watching Parasyte right now and while not perfect it is great. Now I'm looking for something similar, preferably not quite as short. I started Blood+ and I'm only a few episodes in but it doesn't appeal to me yet. I'll probably finish it because it is not that long and I hope it will pick up the pace.

Before someone mentions it, I watched Attack on Titan. Apart from the whiny inner monologues it was great. But those were annoying as hell. Smiley: bah

Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help me out.

Third edit: How did I manage that many mistakes in such a short text?

Deadman Wonderland is sort of similar, but the anime only had 12 episodes IIRC. I'll add options more as I remember them.

Perhaps check out Mirai Nikki? Not 100%(haven't seen Parasyte), but it might fit your tastes.

Thanks, you two. :) Added Deadman Wonderland to my watchlist. Mirai Nikki was already on that list. Smiley: nod

Check out Baccano and Durarara as well. They're "Pulp Fiction" style animes that are really good.

I liked Knight of Sidonia, which has the first season streaming on Netflix. The world building is kind of neat, cool mecha & monster designs, & some neat hard sci-fi concepts.

Like Attack on Titan, I thought the anime was better than the manga source material.

Not to derail this thread, but I stopped watching Attack on Titan when I got a strong whiff of the "chosen one" and "father with a dark secret" cliches. No thank you.

I haven't seen Parasyte, but I'll make some recommendations anyways: Black Lagoon, Darker than Black, Fate/Zero, and Kill La Kill were all thoroughly enjoyable.

Erin is pretty much the opposite of "the chosen one" (if you read the manga), but his Dad does indeed have some dark secrets.

It depends on what aspects of Parasyte you're enjoying.

If you like it for good monster design, other series excelling at monster design include: Berserk, Devilman, Claymore.

If you liked it for its reosanable realistic/hard scifi take on the setting you might like other series such as: Ghost in the shell, Planetes, Darker than Black.

If you like it for horror elements you might like: Shiki, Gantz, Uzumaki

My roommate and I have been watching through that over the last couple weekends. It's rather good thus far.

If you're going to get into the Beserk anime, try the new trilogy of flicks first. Animation is much better & less dated than the older TV series. The manga is still "ongoing" in so far as a couple of chapters are released a year.

Wow, this should keep me busy for quite some time. Added most suggestions to my list. A few I already watched or disliked and stopped watching. Thanks to all of you!

Only slightly related question: Is Cowboy Bebop any good?

Yes. A bit overrated, but definitely worth a watch if you're looking for fun space adventures.

It is also the "coolest" anime with great animation & music!

I'd throw in for Mirai Nikki. Good read, decent watch.

As far as space shows, I'd suggest Space Dandy before Cowboy Bebop, but I like absurdity.

Gurren Lagaan is also pretty absurd, but great at the same time. & the 2nd half of the series has pretty much the most epic space battles ever. I recently rewatched it on Netflix & it's still great.

I just started Kill la Kill recently on Netflix too & it must have the same character designer as Gurren Lagaan. Too early for me to judge it, but so far it's entertaining & completely ridiculous.

Agree on Gurren Lagann. Watched it a few weeks back and it was great fun. Complete nonsense of course but wildly entertaining.

TRIGGER Studio did both Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill which share the same anime tropes. They also made "When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace" which is good if you like Rom/Com and disappointment.

Well, if we're going with absurdity I'd be remiss not to suggest Binbougami Ga, Excel Saga and FLCL. You might get pretty mixed reviews about FLCL, but it's short so you can knock it out in less than an afternoon.

FLCL (FoolyCooly) is supposed to be the mood you feel while watching the anime.

FLCL is by far my favorite anime ever. It's focused, well-paced, and doesn't waste 8-10 episodes with backstory and exposition.

It's like the anime version of Portal.

Eyebrows.
