I'd guess that something the players do 80% of their playtime would have more significance than easthetics. Maybe if the person is shallow, things like new races matter more than that, but to me that only tells about idiocy.
I'll add leveling progress, crafting and grouping dynamics to the list as well. I think it would matter more to make these features the top priority rather than focusing on animating a new race. Are people really willing to sacrifice these things to see bunnies in-game? Y'all got your priorities right there!

Time used in making up whole new races from 0 = time taken from focusing on other features that might actually affect the gameplay. It only seems they have their priorities right. Too bad only thing we'll see is "no new races wtf SE QQ" and not the fact that some other feature in game (like combat perhaps) is much better thanks to the extra dev time given to it.
