So it's fairly early, but what would you like to see brought over to the new game? Obviously the races appear to be making the move, but what about armor/weapons/enemies?

I'm calling it now, Taisai.
Also I expect Mandragora to make an appearance, though they are a classic enemy so they'd show up anyway, but i mean the way they look now.
Obviously SE is likely to put the other stuff in like hedgehog pies, Cid, etc..

But what about things specifically from FFXI?

Pleeeeeeease put Puppetmaster into FFXIV SEE... and make it work this time!

(anyone else having issues remembering the combination of letters that is XIV?)

Point-buy items (Assaults, Einherjar) rather than luck-based suck-fests (Dynamis).

Pop NMs (ZNMs).

Low-man content (Limbus)

I hope they learn from their mistakes. If that Dynamis thread was any indication, less time sink luck sh*t, and more particapation rewarded buyable stuff.

And for God's sake, no 18-48 respawn window bullsh*t. Smiley: motz

***** the job system. Replace it with one skill tree per job, and let us mix and match as desired.

PROS from SE's standpoint: even more timesink.
PROS from our standpoint: better customization of characters.

CONS: Eventually everyone has every tree finished, so everyone can do everything.

There is only ONE THING I hope that FFXIV shows us, is that FFXI is what I though it would be.....a learning experience.

SE you have made a very engrossing game, of which I have spent many years enjoying. There have been many improvements and downfalls but if anything use this game as a learning experience. You now have the tools and knowledge to make a great game. Do not let FFXIV succumb to the little downfalls that have plagued FFXI. Spell lock, system limitations, interface issues all of these can be remedied. Please listen to what the fan base has said and you will keep your subscribers from FFXI and get back many of those, myself included who have been playing other games like WoW. Take these ideas and make a game that is once again enjoyable to play. If one thing I can hope for would be character importing, that would be amazing. Also make this game acceptable for mods, it is one thing WoW has done beautifully. I look forward to this title and I hope it lives up to everything FFXI has built upon, and the many things we can look forward too..

Edited Notes

I will be playing this on PC because as we all know at some point "improvements" will come out for the PC environment.

According to the trailer, the chick casting the bubble on the ship LOOKS LIKE A MITHRA WOO.

Further note on this one....Magical Barrier? Mithra Death Knight >.>

And yeh they had better bring back a Taru equivalent, or theres gonna be a lot of ****** off people.

Also comon SE, make it so we can ride chocobo anywhere, if there is one thing FFXI needed help on it was getting across the land

Also would be nice if FFXIV wasnt a "tunnel and path" game. Free roam would rock.

I know they will be limited the game to the PS3 but lets hope the use the PS3 to its potential, because it still is a badass computer.

Everyone agrees with the job system it seems.

I'd like to see non-luck based rewards, such as the various point systems, carried over. I don't want to be killing the same monster for a month waiting for something, while another person comes in randomly for a day and gets it.

I just hope that they don't essentially *force* the one char/all jobs concept onto us by making certain areas accessible only after grueling tasks like CoP. I'd like to have the option to play as another race once in a while, and on several occasions I started other characters with different races in this game, but always ended up going back to my main because well.. I mean going through all the tedious level cap quests and missions and everything else just to even have basic access to moderate end game activities got to be such a chore and I lost interest before ever really getting anywhere.

1) Job system for sure is the top of the list what I want to see. I can already imagine what the jobs will be if a job system to be implemented. Please give me Summoner (a fixed one! not the FFXI way of SMN Smiley: smile), Thief, and Dancer.

2) The CoP/post-COP trigger NM and battle areas are very well done: ZNMs, Assaults, Einj., Nyzul Isle, and ENM. I really want to see them as well. The only bad CoP/post-CoP battle system that I will call to have a disastrous design is Salvage.

3) Bygrid and her dirty white panties collection.

4) Tarutaru >_>

I'm thinking more and more that it's going to be an expansion of the FFXI universe, being as it talks about it being a 'land'. Also the fact that it says something like 'Pick up your swords...again' strikes me as it being a return. Unfortunately, this might mean character transfers :(

Oh yeah, and the fact that a lot of the trailer is on a ship might be because you travel there on it originally, or perhaps its at the start i.e. you make a character that's travelling from the middle lands to this new continent? While it would be kinda nice to revisit the old areas.. would seem a lil lazy.

Also, i'd hope it would be set a bit in the future from FFXI if it is there, though thats sorta a given if technology has advanced so much

Definitely the Job System, though I wouldn't mind if they removed or completely revamped the Subjob System.

Hopefully racial distinctions will remain (Stats, RSE, food bonuses based on race) As that added a fair bit of uniqueness to all the races other than cosmetics.

One last thing I can wish for that probably wont make the move over, Prishe. >_>

Am I the only one that absolutely loved the subjobs in FFXI? People keep ******** about being forced to do things like /nin, but the same exact thing is going to happen with Skill Trees. Ever play WoW? Many times you get laughed at if you're not a certain spec. At least subjobs allow you to easily change. Okay, so you're party really wants /nin? Go to mog and switch. You can play /drg solo or with a different party.

Definitely job system! The job system is the one thing that FFXI has that is complete win. And they better keep a lot of the same jobs while adding new ones! Sounds like I'm looking towards an expansion rather than a new game....

Well I think they should definitely keep at least Tarutarus, as they are the most wicked awesome race ever created.

I would like demons to stay, just make them look creepier.

Either the linkshell system or something similar, like linkrocks or something. The LinkRocks can give birth to LinkPebbles! :D

Oh, and my security token I plan to get sometime this year after SE stops messing up my order (2 months and counting woo!) better get me something.

Oh, and how could I forget Wonder Clomps?

So looking over it again, maybe they'll bring some of the same hairstyles over, though more customisation is definitely needed. Just because, looking at the trailer, when that sea serpent thing flies over the ship, you see the back of a hume's head which has specifically the same hairstyle (the wierd one with the little hair tied up at the back). So, any any hairstyles you'd like to see?

i'm not going to say bring the 'job' system over (although I wouldn't mind it since it is Final Fantasy after all) but at least keep the one character = all experiences method from FFXI. It was the best trait of FFXI by far. Nothing gets you more attached to the world when you can experience it all through one character. In other MMOs where they force you to make "alts" to get new experiences, it only leaves me feeling like its a gimic from lore standpoint and leaves me feeling like its more a tedious game than a truly engrossing experience in a different world. I don't have 2+ personalities in real life, id prefer my game persona was the same way.
#30 Jun 03 2009 at 1:54 AM Rating: Good
I agree with this, I felt much more invested in my FFXI character, because even when I was playing as a level 28 dragoon, I still had all the things I had accomplished, like mission ranks.

2 things. Both of them SE did right from day one. One has been mentioned 400 times in this thread already.

1) Job system. Nothing worse than having to remember 4-5 character names for one person like in WoW. Redoing crafts, recaping skills, doing the same quests over and over again...

2) Linkshells. Do not change their base mechanics. You aren't forced to be apart of only one group at any one given time on a single character.

What I would like to see implemented in FF XIV:

* the ability to change jobs on one character to explore jobs with the same character

In Star Wars Galaxy for example its possible to level up to top with a strong combat class and then switch to another combat class and keep the level, so all the learning process you go through as you gain levels on a certain job is completely lost, please SE, don't do this.

* the same focus on PvP content like in XI, means PvP as fun event!!

IMHO PvP content allways means more troubles for balancing jobs and in that way destroying the balance on a constant basis.

* a similar crafting system like in XI in the way of "you can take all crafts to a certain level and over that you only have that many points left". But a little less complex and if there are skill ups of 0.1 make the decimals visible.

I like many aspects of the crafting system in XI, a bit less painfull would do wonders and while they are at it, get rid of +1 synths or make it less random and make it impossible to break a recipe which is way below your level in that craft.

* sub-job system or something similar *ducks*

I jump on my bst, sub whm and can venture without too much hassle as long there is something I can charm to help me fight other monsters. I want to DD as BST in a party I can sub WAR or *ducks again* NIN (with the right gear) and can be a DD.

The sub-job system did not only bring the "/NIN onry" it can also bring flexibility, if done right. Thats the hard part here, as we see with level-sync, its a great feature but also brings lv75 nubs who ding 75 in qufim island because the implementation wasn't 100% sober.

Although I like so many things in XI, I really hope XIV will get its own feeling and gameplay, I hope it does not get a FF XI clone just with better graphics, I want new storylines (don't care if they are connected to any other FF title), I want to see new faces and old faces making a comeback like it has allways been in FF.

In short: I want to play a new FF Online game.

Cheers,
Fro
