I hope that they have more than just the same 5 races in FFXI. I mean what's the point in creating a new game if it's just the same as the old one? And hopefully their character creation system is a lot better than what they had in FFXI. That thing was way too simple. I don't want to see a hundred different characters that look exactly like me.

Jumping on the manthra bandwagon.

Just incase anyone was wondering, in the Bastok Storyline, you learn that Galka's are more or less a "Divine Race" which don't really have males or females, but they are classified as males. Mithra do in fact have male and females and reproduce just as any other race does. You also learn in the WOTG quests from Lehko that Male Mithra are perfectly common on their homeland, it's just the "renegade" female Mithra came to the lands that we know of.

And incase you were wondering, in the Final Fantasy series, you learn that recurring races and characters exist but in a completly different universe so that the same rules no longer apply. They could easily have a race they call Galka in this game, and throw out all the history of "Galka" in FFXI. Male/Female Galka could very well exist in this game.

Assuming you can still change jobs whenever like XI, I will pick an all around decent stat race that isn't my current hume male. Manthra if available.

If the major differences are just HP/MP like it is now, Manthra or Mithra assuming the same stats. Or if a new race is availalbe that is good on both i'll give that a look.

If you can't it really depends on the job system. I'll likely pick a tank race (that isn't Galka) for a tank job if the system is restrictive.

Male mithra most definitely!

and if they don't have Male Mithra (which would be a big mistake on their part and unlikely), Galka would be my no.2 choice. They seem a bit slimmer, more natural, and a bit more personality. This is what I've gathered from the scraps of information we currently have but still...

I sort of hope the bring more races than what we have in XI, I still wish they shouldve added Bangaa instead of Galka, definitely wouldve been a lizard man instead of an elvaan if they had it. Moogle instead of taru would be a welcome change too! Manthra if they include it maybe.

I've always been a Human in the majority of the RPGs I've played. Wouldn't be in different in FFXVI. For the sake of my roleplay purposes, Hume is my comfort zone, not to mention balanced stats work the best for me.

SO now its confirmed that the same races that are in FFXI will be in FFXIV in some form, there might be slight changes. Now SE just has to let us know if there will be any NEW races... or maybe races that exist but were non-playable (*coughMANTHRAcough*).

Come on SE, tell us something!

I will definitely try Mithra and Hume again. It will be great to see their updated, more realistic looking versions. That and I loved RPing as these two races, the Mithra being fun and sneaky, the Hume being a little more uptight and serious. ^^;

I bet almost every old FFXI player are gonna get a male mithra, so i can't do it, i have always to go to the opposite way, so maybe gonna get galka or hume as my old ffxi character.

Gria male <Yes, Please> if the unholy gaming gods grace us with them :x. If not I'm gonna be sad cause none of the races appeal to me anymore. Playing as a hume is kinda lame, tarus make my head spin with terrible proportions. But who knows they may fix the whole proportion problems from XI and maybe I'll be happy with it. If not looks like I'll be playing a hume again...

In FFXI I started out as a mage but ended up doing more meleeing later on. As a taru what I didn't like about meleeing is the awkward camera angle of looking up to every mob. That plus the fact that it didn't look like I was doing much damage even though the chat log said otherwise. Another problem is that I don't think a lot of people take melee tarus very seriously. So if I decide to be more of a melee in FFXIV (I need more details about the game before deciding) I might want to choose a race that's taller. Having more HP would be nice too.

Then again, tarus are cute and it's great fun having taru buddies and going out in all taru groups to kill stuff. Decisions...

I've played a dex/agi character on every character possible since pen and paper D&D. I really hope male mithra is possible to play, and its a dex/agi type in stats. Otherwise going from ffxi mithra to a hume type, playing a female character when you are male gets annoying after 5 years.

Honestly, I'm gonna play whatever is the race of that character at the fore-front of the FFXIV logo (with the sword pointing towards you). I don't care what race he is at this point, but I'd like to make a character that looks just like that cuz something about him just says: "Bring it, I dare you".

I've been playing Elvaan all this time (since ps2 release, Garuda server) and I remember that I made an Elvaan from the onset because I wanted to make a Xter that resembled the Elvaan in the FFXI opening scene (you know; Ranger fella, looks bad@$$, notches an arrow like he invented the word accuracy...yeah, him). Turns out that I actually liked the San'dorian storyline tbh, so I don't regret making an Elvaan.

That said, if I absolutely had to make another "Elvaan" on FFXIV, (and I couldn't make a clone of the fella on the logo) I'd like to make one that looks like the guy at the far right of the large image on the main FFXIV website http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/

Scroll to the far right of the screen, the very end (seated at the table). Yeah, him. Has on some intresting armor that already has me thinking he's a warrior of some sort. His gear has me thinking I might even play some sort of warrior class all over again. *Grins widely*

Come to think of it, if you look at the teaser site image, you can see on the far left that there is a short boy character with horns.

In another thread it was mentioned that SE specifically requested that our favourite artist draw the FFXIV logo was drawn with an emphasis on weapons pointing outwards.

If that was very premeditated, then SE may have deliberately shown us a sneak preview of a 6th race for FFXIV.

Not sure if this makes a difference but the artist for the illustration on the main page and the artist for the logo design are too different people. Regardless, I'm sure we can still get some speculation out of the main page illustration as well, though knowing SE, they probably will forgo a lot of the detail oriented clues that we speculators like to point out. Like the crystals in the belt behind the man with the mage hat on the main illustration.

I don't know, I just see that as an artist at play with the space he has rather than an accurate representation of things to come in the game.

I'll just basically re-post what I posted in the other thread on races.

The horned child in the FFXIV artwork is indeed peculiar.
If a reincarnation of the Gria race (which this character very much resembles) appears in the game and there is a male option, I will definitely play that.

I'm definitely interested in playing a smaller-bodied character that is melee-oriented.
It's just too ironic and cute.

I play melee sometimes on my Tarutaru but it sucks to have the disadvantage, and I would like my character to perhaps be a little more proportionate.

If the Gria, or some other male, childlike character does not appear, I will play FFXIV as the race that resembles the Tarutaru.

With similar races, I don't think I can see myself as anyone other than Elipsis and/or Yor. I'll be recreating both of my mains as their racial doubles in the new game.

My alts and bank characters will most likely end up being different races, however, if new ones end up being included.

i was use Male elvan since 2005, (I hope in this new game we can get NEW Races"

I love FFXI races but, if have 4 years with Male elvaan. and For 4 years all days see Mithra, tarus, galkas and elvans.

I really want we get minimium 5 new races.

This races similar FFXI are good but if i start a new Game i really want try a new race.

My way of feel is, If i have 4 years with something. and i will start a new Game i wish this game be 100% new, and everything i will see be "new". i dont want play FFXI ver2. i want play FFIV.

For me the question more important can be. "I will choice the same job" lol if in the new Game we get similar jobs. will be a ULTRA hard choice say k i will be Thief again. or maybe i want start a new job like a black mage. for me this will be more dificult than the race hehe ^^

Well, I started off as an Elvaan, then switched over to a Mithra.

I might try the Galka in this game, as they don't have tails (infinitely more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes), and hopefully, they start off in more than a harness.

I've played all races over the years. I quit and come back to this game almost compulsively.

I started as Hume, and will probably go into FFX14 as a Hume again. Still need to learn more about the races though. There may even be new ones, like that horned kid in the painting(Gria?).

Well I've played Mithra for the last several years and I'm torn between continuing with Mithra again or switching to Tarutaru.

I suppose I'll make a standard 'spur of the moment' decision when I get the game which will probably be influenced by how they're going to make the new battle system work.

The races will have diff names than ffxi. Also, stat advantages may differ. Maybe Taru are strong with tons of HP but little MP. Galka may be big ole teddy bears with tons of MP and MND but with very little VIT and HP.

If there's no stat difference between races (which would be interesting) I will play the largest character possible.... so I can see my gear better.... and tower over people... because it gives me confidence...
