I'm curious to see if SE will do away with resting to regain MP/HP and just incorporate "auto-regen" like most modern day MMOs seem to do...

Hmm...discuss

Both? Auto-regen and refresh for every job when not engaged, and a stronger version while resting.

I'd definitely go with both as previously stated. The ability to keep going by recovering HP and MP during fight progression is nice but being able to rest to recover HP and MP quicker is also good as you're going to run low eventually and just standing there waiting to recover isn't much better than /heal. I just hope they make it faster.

Just make it very simple: you regen slower when moving, faster when stopped.

No need to make it another thing to "micro-manage" make it passive/automatic.

/heal is only (sometimes) needed when you solo. FFXI was a party focussed game, and if you're party had to rest after an ammount of mobs, it didnt work properly.

however, because SE announced that they will be more casual and thus also more accessable for people who want to solo alot, they will most likely change the mp/hp thick with /heal. hajpoj's way seems very reasonble for me.

i hated the first 10 levels u had to solo most of the time XD.

Auto HP/MP regain would be nice, especially with FFXIV looking to be faster paced than XI was. It shouldn't be able to replace a healer, healing items, or other natural recovery methods though.

The first MMO I played (EQOA) had auto restoration and it could be increased by the appropriate stats and armor, it was a really nice feature. It didn't prevent you from dying if outmatched but it allowed you to keep fighting without having to stop often.

FFXI's resting was so slow and annoying.

Yeh resting could be slow, but then when your party was properly set up, you never really needed to stop. I can remember when chains would just keep growing and only stop because someone says afk or the likes (though I know that they can't just keep growing). Consumables and items helped with the /heal times quite well too. If they were to increase the speed of the game, then sure a faster recovery would be needed.

Auto regen is good, when you are not in combat. So yes, I would love to see this feature in FF14.

Except that kind of reeks of WoW.

Potions and Ethers are all you need.

How about a SaGa-style system with LP and in-between encounter recovery?

For those not familiar with the series, when you are rendered unconscious in battle (0 HP), you lose 1 LP and continue to lose 1 LP every time you are hit while unconscious. When you lose all LP, you die. The nice part of this system is that you can be brought back from unconsciousness by simple HP recovery as long as you have LP left. When battles are over, HP and other depleted stats are recovered immediately, except for LP. The only way to recover LP is to rest at an inn or drink a rare potion, something to that effect. The amount of LP available per character varies, but is usually single digits.

I think that would give XIV an interesting layer of strategy. Make it so you don't need a dedicated person to Raise, anyone who can restore HP can bring people back to consciousness. You wouldn't need to worry about recovering between battles, but in a long sequence of fights, you have to be careful about your LP. If you die, there is no way to recover, you simply have to return to your home point. Add to that some powerful desperation moves that actually consume LP and you have a very big factor of risk to play with.

Only if you make at least the lower ones vendor bought, or a heck of a lot cheaper to make than they were in FFXI. Otherwise they're nothing like eating/drinking. But then resting IS sort of like eating/drinking, it's just A LOT slower in FFXI.

Even I have to agree with this one.

Make Potions/Ethers stackable and able to be used without the dreadful medicated status.

Also, Phoenix Down.

Sleeping bags, tents, cabins or just a plain campfire where everyone can come and sit together for increased regen/refresh.

I wasn't suggesting that the primary means of healing should be overly expensive npc-sold and crafted items, so yes.

I like auto-regen and auto-refresh. Keep in mind we have no idea what the norm will be for HP/MP so we have no idea about how much restored over time. But have three levels of it.

Resting - highest degree
Normal - middle
Fighting - Not sure if there should be any here. I'm inclined to say no because you're fighting...you're exerting yourself.

That's a terrible way to do. So basically during combat, when everyone is standing still to cast or attack, you have high regen. But out of combat, when you'd normally be trying to recup hp and mp while running around searching for new prey to attack you have very low regen.
