Ok, I'll be the first to say it. PS3 limitations?

To me it seems they are digging themselves the same hole again.

I wouldn't go that far, yet. PS3 is a pretty good system specs wise and unless you've crammed your system full of **** or something you should have plenty of space for the game data. Computers will be better but I don't think we'll see "PS3 Limitations" for a long while.

Maybe b/c the system is still so young this game will even improve visually over time or even mechanically unlike it could on ps2 b/c it was at its peak.

What exactly do you people want this game to do that the PS3 can't handle? They managed to get large PvE battles and inventories on the PS2.

Do you want 4 player splitscreen on a single system or something?

The PS3 is easily the equivalent to a completely decked out PC, and there's already been threads about how in many ways the PS3 is actually better than the PC, which I couldn't agree more with. In time, the PC might come out with technology that will make the PS3 system obsolete (assuming the PS3 doesn't just update itself to match said technology) but that will definitely be a while. I'm going to assume you either don't own a PS3 or you've never owned a game on it with good graphics. Quit playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

1) Not the first to say it.

2) The situations are a bit different. PS3 is earlier in its life than the PS2 was. Also the PS3 is built more for online play than the PS2 was.

Yes there will be limitations, but not to the extent that we saw w/ the PS2. Agree w/ the guy 2-3 posts above me. What do you want out of this game? If you want the best possible amazing omg graphics play on PC, and change dats/registry to increase graphics as much as possible. If you're worried about gameplay...we haven't seen anything yet, try waiting for some information.

incorrect.

ps2 was released in 2000 and ffxi released in 2002, = 2 years difference
ps3 was released in 2006 and ffxiv supposedly in 2010 = 4 years difference

The PC version will probably be a bit more expansive in terms of graphic elements in play, but I think the PS3 will do just fine.

I had XI on PS2 and I enjoyed it. I'm planning on getting XIV on my PS3 and I'll enjoy that too. Sure, the sunset would probably look better on your PC screen, but in my eyes it will be breathtaking.

The PS3 is a beast of a machine; a beast, nothing less (I currently play FFXI on it and I've got the 60G version). Sony were not messing around when they touted that they would get a good 10 year life span out of it cuz it handles a lot more than you can imagine.

In addition, I'm too positive that Sony and Square Enix are already thrashing out a bundle pack for the FFXIV; perhaps a 200GB version with the software already pre-installed (just like they did with the first ps2 bundle but this time, they will do a much much better job at marketing/maintaining applications because they now have the PlayStation network also as a tool). Maybe they'll even toss in some ffxiv collector's edition stuff, a wireless headset, a download-able piece of exclusive furniture for your "Mog House"... yeah, that sorta thing.

But in all seriousness, I very much doubt that there will be ps3 limitations at all. For example, one of the best gaming laptops that you can get right this minute on the market is the Clevo D900F/D901F (aka. Sager NP9280 with Intel Core i7 support, Nvidia GTX 280M with it's three internal HDDs); and I know for a fact that the ps3 will keep pace with it. Just watch and see, I got lots of confidence that the ps3 will run ffxiv beautifully xD

PS3 is not a beast compared to the best computers. But graphics is not the most important element of a game, and the PS3 can still make very good graphics.

80gb will be more than enough to handle it i'd say, having 100 GB would be better though, and anyways, changing HDD is ******* **** easy and cheap, and releasing a new PS3 with 200 GB would be too costy.

Squalido, there is no 100GB calibration for data storage when it comes to certain media-related storage; which is why it particularly goes from 80Gb to 120 GB for a certain reason. Furthermore, Sony already have plans for a 200GB ps3 especially since they know that people have regularly been expanding their ps3's harddrives. More importantly, they have managed to make it cost effective to produce (it will cost Sony roughly the same amount it costs Microsoft to make a 120GB Elite 360). Releasing such a console with the ffxiv isn't only possible, it's marketing genius if Sony goes through with it.

And to Insanekangaroo, yes indeed graphics is not the best part of a game (naturally, it's still very nice to have nonetheless) but rather processing power is just as important. The ps3 can and will process the rendering of all those graphics with it's cell technology. And of course, I'm sure you're not too farmiliar with ps3's cell technology so I will summarize it for you: The PS3 has EIGHT of them (actually NINE if you count the PPE) and only seven needs to be operating at any given time while the the 8th one is a SPE (security component).

Meh, lemme simplify further in case I've lost you: if you played MGS4 you will know that as graphically intense as that game was (many agencies declared it game of the year for 2008), it STILL didn't use up half of the ps3's processing power. Even Kojima is still remarking (and lamenting) to this day that he wishes he knew how graphically capable the ps3 was because he could've done even more with it's cells.

Tch... I think I'm done here, I have absolutely no need to argue this topic any further.

PS3 cannot compare to a high end computer. its getting a few years old now and only costs maybe a third of a high end computer - of course it is not a beast. But it'll get the job done I do not doubt it.

Well, talking more about the PS3, we shouldn't worry, the problem would be if FFXIV didn't use cell properly, like most multiplataform does, but Crystal tools was at the start designed for PS3 cell, so i'd say this game will use it properly, and so, the PC game will have great visuals because of it.

We should really PANIC, but PANIC if this game used Unreal Engine 3, but it doesn't.

PS3 power isnt in graphics but in processing power PS3 cell processor is even more powerful than the I7 in processing and that will make the ps3 version run the game perfectly and can view many players in a small area yes PC version might be better than the ps3 version in term of graphics but it wont be better than it in term of performance any time soon.

Seriously..there is only ONE game that the PC can make absurdly amazing and it's also exclusive to the PC and it's Crysis. I have no doubt in my mind a real expensive PC will kick *** left and right but this is an MMORPG we are talking about so I want performance and content before I start drooling over graphics and the PS3 can easily handle that task.
