Something that is really starting to irk me...

Is when I hit topics of the new MMO and see mentions of "yay a new FFIV online!" and such along the lines.

Last I checked they are not making a MMO based off of a DRK unsure of himself and a drg that has some issues and a long journy back home and the drk really realizing he is suppose to be a pld etc etc...

Its a MMO more along the lines of FFXI by the looks (not play, just looks)- so please as you spam topics of FFXIV, do not neglect the X :O

Cause the graphics are moving to "Shiney!" not "16 bit shiney!"

I'll admit that I've mistyped it a few times. It's just weird typing FFXIV.. like my fingers crash into each other and it comes out like FFIXV FFXVI FFXIV

I dunno.. maybe I'm typing too fast?

well the thing with roman numberals is people get confused after X

they don't get the whole XIV thing any more than they get the XLVII or the XMCLIV and all that other crap no sane person would touch with a 10ft pole :P

It's rocky II + rocky V = rocky VII adrian's revenge :X

yo, it's not that cecil was unsure of himself. he was a goodhearted, powerful, loyal man placed in the unfortunate position of realizing that the value of loyalty was conflicting with the value of justice/etc, b/c his king had gone crazy and started stirring **** up (or got beat like a chump by a weak *** mob and then usurped by said mob). not too irrelevant to modern day, ay? (wait, it's not that every ff title is an allegory about questioning authority, generally criticizing american imperialism... right?)

speaking of which, the interesting thing about ffiv is: why did king baron raise cecil to wield the dark sword in the first place? surely that training needs to start early like kain's DRG training... and while it would be interesting if the king was always an imposter, this is plainly not the case given that the 4 fiends wouldn't have put golbez's plans in motion before golbez himself began being controlled by zemus.

so what was baron's plan? he should know (everyone else seems to) that cecil won't be able to do **** vs actual evil as a DRK. it couldn't be that baron expects there to be no war, and therefore has cecil train as a DRK instead of, say, a PLD or a DRG, because if there wasn't going to be war, why train him at all? any way you slice it, it looks like king baron had some sinister plans. you don't just train your little adopted son type to wield some sort of evil, ineffectual against evil sword if you don't plan on sending him out to murder some people.

perhaps baron figured the power of the dark sword would be most effective if one of the rival kingdoms got uppity. considering the domination of baron occurred due to the rise of baron's airship technology and likely occurred, again, BEFORE baron was killed by the impostor, it seems clear that king baron wasn't thinking only of self-defense in training cecil. all signs point to: the man to which cecil was loyal was planning similar **** to what golbez ended up doing anyway.

Know your Roman numerals. You never know when you might need them to escape a tiger cage. ;)
Rocky five plus... Rocky two equals...Rocky VII! "Adrian's Revenge"!

On a slightly related note... I bet when they get up to the 30th game, "Final Fantasy XXX" will see record sales... (and record returns, too, I'm sure). :P

I am so glad someone posted this. I was getting so annoyed yesterday reading everyone putting down FFIV instead of FFXIV.

I watched the video finally, and looks pretty interesting so far. Can't wait for the open beta :)

Ha ha ha! Totally agree. But it is a lot of fun still tracking down all the bugs. I've actually joked with friends that I am still beta testing FFXI before... thought I was the only one though!

I really enjoyed doing the beta for FFXI on PS2. Hoping I can get in on testing PC or PS3... maybe both if I can sign the GF up as well for one or the other :)

I'm pretty sure XMCLIV isn't really proper either, you don't put X before an M, MCXLIV is what that number should be.

Point being is why the **** do people use these things anyways? There's a reason we moved on to the decimal system.

Because the game developers use roman numerals, and people don't realize they can use XIV and 14 interchangeably.

I don't get why people who are shortening the "Final Fantasy" portion aren't just shortening the "Roman Numberals" portion as well and going with FF14. FFXIV seems just more convoluted than it needs to be lol.

Okay, I work at a store that sells video games...

You have no idea how many times I had to answer the question "When is Grand Theft Auto EYE VEE coming out?" last year.

I learned Roman numerals in third grade. Sure, I don't know how to say "21,238" in Roman numerals (anymore), when it starts to get high up I start forgetting everything, but I know most of the numbers you'd see being used in media and popular culture. But seriously, it's like they're not even TEACHING it in schools anymore.

I <3 FFXI but still glad another final fantasy is coming, what happens when i get the other one and complete that. And finally get bored of this? FFXI is one of few online games to keep me for more then 30 minutes. Think there has been CS, DOD loved those games. Thats it, not a big fan of online games, i enjoy some story plus FFXI with the whole LS thing is good. I got bored of Wow far too easy and never got in to anything else.

Im just a SE fan :) its just the whole FF thing.

Either way i cant wait im not all WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO im just like cool wow. Maybe they will make it so it doesnt need 1000 updates to fix issues that exist and maybe they will learn from FFXI and it will not need those updates.

Oh they teach it, BUT IT'S WAYYYY TO COMPLICATED TO REMEMBER!

seriously, at the very least everyone should know 1~39. Higher numbers aren't generally used enough to care about, but the there's really no excuse for not knowing the lower ones.
