So what were you doing when you heard and what was your very first reaction?

I was watching the press conference and was just done taking in the wow of XIII. When I heard the guy say that now they'd be showing footage of XIV, also coming out in 2010, I freaked out (inside, since I was at work). I was in four different IRC rooms watching the reactions stream out while trying to watch the trailer and talk to my boss at the same time. It was chaotic and exciting and completely unexpected for me.

I heard about it earlier today from some LS mates, but didn't really care too much about it. Then i saw the pics, and they wowed me. I'll try the game out at the very least, and just take it from there ^^

I was at home watching the press conference. When he said XIV, I stood up and watched the trailer in complete shock. Then I was filled with excitement and had to call a couple nerd friends. They cared half as much as me, but I still felt like running two miles.

Oh yeah and I forgot to say: I ran out and bought the Vana'diel collection. It's been about 4 years since I played FFXI and I've missed it. This pretty much forced me to jump back on to get ready for XIV. Maybe I can get through all the expansion content that I've missed since I stopped playing. I'm updating as I type. I don't really remember much though. I'll be a complete noob. Jumping on Asura. Anyone willing to help, let me know!

I was praying that this E3 was finally the date that SE announced their mystery MMORPG to replace FFXI and they finally did. I jumped around like crazy saying. "Yes! Yes! yeS!

I was in bed sleeping. My phone rang and a friend of mine was calling me, I answered and he just kept screeming "OHH MY ****ING GOD!" I was like "Calm the **** down dude, what's up?" being half asleep. He told me and I started freaking out. I found the site, then came here to Alla to find this new forum. Been watching the trailer, talking to people in game and off, and hanging out here on 268 since the announcement.

I was watching the Sony live conference on ign, and while I suspected that there might be an announcement of sorts for Rapture, I didn't think they'd outright name the title and or show any Game rendered cut scenes as was shown briefly in the video(on the boat).

At first I was crapping my pants(not in excitement) but in worry that the game may not come out on PC, as I've personally abandoned most console gaming(no reason to pay $60 for a game I can beat in 5 hours anymore). But then when it was shown to be a PS3/PC release I eased into the idea, and to be honest, it re-awakened all of the great memories I had with FFXI.

I was in the middle of an Ouryu Cometh fight while watching the conference through IGN on another laptop.
XIII trailer was just over and I was like "OMGShivaShivaShivaShivaShiva" (I love Shiva lol) when the guy said "And now a world exclusive trailer for a game that will come after XIII".. so I thought "ShivaShivaShivaOh nice a FFvsXIII gameplay video finally!" ..."Final Fantasy XIV."

"ShivaShivaShivaShi...Wait wut?"

-Trailer- -Online appears under the title- /dies

LS goes crazy while I spam them the news, thank God Ouryu was almost dead lol

I was sort of half-watching the FFXIII trailer while playing on PC, but when they announced a special trailer for FFXIV I stopped to watch. It was nice-looking, but pretty much like every other FF demo trailoer I've seen at past game shows, so I didn't really pay it much mind. Until it got to the final screen.

I was at work during the anouncement, but just as I was on the way home I went to kotaku on my phone, saw a FFXIV anouncement, I wasn't half surprised, I just thought well no wonder, plenty of time for it to go multi plat.

Then I read the article, started to freak a little at the 2010 release, sort of calmed down and considered buying a PS3.

Got home saw the big alla thread, saw the website, raged that I almost thought about getting a ps3. And sat there for about 2 hours soaking in all the E3 news that I missed while listening the websites theme on repeat :D

I had to work all day (at gamestop, no less) and had people coming in and talking about the various press conferences all day. Little Big Mario, PS3 wii mote, Little Big Racers, no one mentions FFXIII or anything from S-E.

I get home to catch up on all the news from today, and the main headline on 1up is FFXIV. I'm like "hmm...that's really early to announce that" I click the link and notice it says online....then i freak out like a 8 year old school girl watching the New Moon trailer.

The fact that it has the races from FFXI, and is a fully numbered Final Fantasy really shows S-E's dedication to the online series, the paid homage to the game we've been playing the last 6 years, and show that its not a "Crystal Saga" style side-story, but a full release.

I don't get the excitement on this one. We all knew SE was working on a new MMO, so it really shouldn't come as much of a shock when they announce one. The trailer was well done, but that's to be expected from SE. Aside from that I really don't have much in the way of comments since we really know next to nothing about the game. All we have to work with is the name of the world, a few character and couple ship/airship models. Well, that and the fact that Leviathan is almost certainly going to be in the game, it's function though is anybodies guess. I'll get more interested sometime next year when they get around to actually releasing the game.

I was on FFXI fighting Sandworm, Alt-tabbing to Kotaku's feed on the Sony conference between nukes.

I was pretty surprised when I saw FFXIV mentioned, then someone in my LS shouted that it was online.

I'm still on a high from hearing it, I'm really hoping we get a bit for information from SE during their conference later today.

I was at work, but in between projects I cruise various FFXI based sites such as this and BlueGartr. I normally hang in the General Discussion thread....so I finished some work around 2:30pm central hit the F5 button and suddenly saw several "OMFG FFXIV ONLINE ZOMGWTFBBQ!!11one!1!1" threads....

I go into the one that wasn't locked, checked out the trailer.....I actually said "OH ****" out loud in the office and had a couple of guys look at me all weird.

If SE follows the same ******** record of crap customer service, dumbass ideas that have nothing whatsoever to do with how people actually play the game, idiotic timesinks and the like, then no thanks. Too be honest, I doubt SE's ability to to pour **** out of a boot with the instructions on the heel. I'm tired of their incompetence. I'll wait and see, I'm not going to go off all crazy singing the praises of their new mmo. They have disappointed me too many times before with hype that did not match the reality.

I was just doin' my own thing when Rykoshet IMed me about FFXIV. I was like, wut? From there, I just started poking around sites and figured out what most anyone else knows at this point.

Skeptical is the word that sums up my opinion best. I'd like for the game to be good and for SE to have learned from their mistakes with XI, but part of me doubts they will and knows that part of the community I despise would also be migrating and attempting to ruin it all from the start. Both scenarios simply rely on SE not being stupid about this.

Until then, I need more info.

Initial reaction: wtf?

Not-So-Initial reaction: Basically, I was getting goosebumps after watching the trailer, but as far as me being sold goes, I can't say too well. There are ALOT of good games coming out in 2010, and I might prioritize those instead of FF14. Most of all though, I'm quite tired of FFXI. The only reason I play it now is because I feel I have unfinished business that I would like to accomplish before turning in my hat(RDM) and shield(PLD).

I jumped on alla as I usually do, while simultaneously logging into FFXI and signing in MSN and checking emails and everything else I always do. Automatically clicked "Job Forums" as I always do, in the micro-second before the page changed, I noticed the shiny picture on Alla home and "FINAL FANTASY V". Thought "ah, FFV remake." for some reason (why the **** would that be on alla?)

Paused for a few seconds then hit back.

Read what it actually was

"Wait no.. April fools? No.. it's June not April.. there is.. no way... OMFG!"

then bounced around for a while, spammed everybody I know with FINAL FANTASY FOURTEEEEEEEEEN then started theorycrafting with friends in XI.

I was trying to get as much info as I could about the next square MMO. They have been working on the game for so many years this E3 had to be the one they were going to announce it so I was searching for the info. I wasn't watching the sony conference, however. I didn't think they would announce it then. I first found out on wikipedia of all places. A bit before 3 pm pacific time I noticed they changed the wiki page for project rapture and followed the link they had to the official FFXIV page. When the large illustration came up and I saw elvaan and mithra I got up and danced for joy. I started downloading the HD video and in the meantime I turned up the volume on my music full blast and started singing to it at the top of my lungs. Luckily nobody else was home...

My second reaction was and still is, "I NEED MORE INFO." Seriously, it's coming out next year which means it's almost done and they are probably just polishing it up and working on the internal alpha. They have plenty of info to give out and I WANT IT ALL!!!

I was watching the E3 coverage on G4 when the time came for SE reps to strut their stuff, and they showed their DS game, then FFXIII, and I thought to myself, the voiceovers are crap... SE, put your act together, I hope they get better voice actors for the final version. Then, they mentioned and now a new game in the series, FFXIV "WTF?" So, I grew interested and as the trailer was playing I thought to myself that those character models look very much like the ones in FFXI, except more detailed. Then, I thought: "OMG, don't tell me this is freaking Project Rapture and it is actually Online" When the title screen was shown I was shouting out loud: "Please, make the word Online appear under the Final Fantasy XIV title, please!!!!!!!!!!!" And it slowly faded in: "Online". I had stood up when the trailer started and I literally collapsed on my couch yelling out loud: "Online!!!! Amazing!!!!!" I then ran around the house telling my wife and I know something inside of her died, lol!

I knew it had to be Rapture when he announced 2010 cause I couldn't think of any possible reason why they'd release two single player FF titles in the same year, so when the title came out and there was no Online I was like, what? Then finally it came out and I was like woohoo!!!!!

Unfortunately I did not watch any live streaming or youtube video for FFXIV. I was actually quite oblivious to its existence until one of my IM buddies who also plays FFXI linked me directly to the FFXIV website. All I can say was that I experienced pure excitement when I started noticing the similar races and hair styles during the cinematic video. Definitely excited for this game which is surprising seeing as how aside from that short video I know nothing else of it other than its creators.

My first thoughts were about if they will keep the way of servers/worlds like in XI or if they will make regional servers for europe, NA, Asia and stuff like that.

And if we can choose the server we want to play on from the start, would be nice to arrange to be on the same server with some friends if they choose to play XIV too.

Cheers,
Fro

Was watching the live conference on G4. I was really confused as to why they would be showing anything on 14 when 13 wasn't even out yet. And then as the trailer was showing, I was like "Why is there a Galka?" etc. Then when the word online popped up, it was like we got hit with a meteor of "Oh, snap!"

And then I received many phone calls from friends who also play FFXI.

Honestly, I was a little ****** off at first. I had my account hacked back during the mass hackings a few years ago and SE essentially told me they wouldn't do **** about it.

Fast forward about a year and a half and I've started a new character and getting back into the game. Was about to do as much of CoP as I could with my current highest job when I log on alla and see the new MMO is coming out next year.

So, my work was stolen and I had no right to it back by SE, then when I finally start back up they release this and tell me that in a years time it won't even matter. Ya, I'm a little bit more than ****** atm, especially with XI having so many bugs for so long and WotG not being finished, 2 other expansions otw, and AV still not legitly being beaten. If SOMETHING in XI transfers to XIV I might continue playing, but if not my content ID is off until XIV comes out.

I was looking around in the general forum and saw the thread with FF14 in its title. I figured it was supposed to be some random stuff about FF13 but the OP just hit the 4 key by mistake instead of 3. To my surprise it was not and my reaction was the following:

Stage 1: Denial
No, no, no, FFXI is the first and only MMO I'll ever play. I am done with this stuff after this game is over.

Stage 2: Anger
I HATE YOU SQUARE ENIX! You will not have another 4+ years of my life, no way in ****.

Stage 3: Bargaining
I'll be able to do so many more things in life if I don't get FFXIV. Plus I use a 360 currently and I'd need to buy a PS3/decent PC, I'm not doing that...

Stage 4: ???

Stage 5: AcceptanceProfit
Well think of all the money I'll save on not being addicted to heroine to pass my time in the future.

You do realize that say 30 years from now you wouldn't be playing FFXI, right? What difference does it make if it's FFXIV? Or any game for that matter. People still play EQ to this day but at some point they are going to have to move on, not so much because Sony pushes them out as it is themselves. You just can't hold interest forever in a game... rather we like it or not, what we do here and now in online game worlds ultimately is a waste. Heck, we all will die someday, so why bother living life? To look at it from your point of view.

I wasn't feeling to good yesterday so I called into work. I sadly did not get to watch it in real time for the announcement but thankfully I had not logged into FFXI or on any forums so I was very very shocked. I just about out my chair with joy :D I was really hoping this is what SE was planning for Rapture.

I just returned to FFXI last month and now I am thinking, should I keep playing or just enjoy my ps3/xbox/wii until this hits? I am enjoying FFXI still, it was my 1st MMORPG and nothing else has been as much fun. There are some things from WoW and War that would be cool to see in the new game but if the story is good and it has some epic fights like FFXI did, I'll be happy.

The letters "XIV" together are pretty hard to miss, speaking from the perspective of someone interested in copy editing. So I'm on the 1UP page and I'm looking around and I say "Oh what's..."

And the rest is history.

I swore never to return to MMORPGs. But my first reaction is that this is something I will revisit—for a short while. But I am excited, nonetheless.

I was watching the Press conference while doing Besieged! As besieged ended they annouced it and I was like:

/sh OMG Sony just announced FF14 Online for 2010 just now on E3!!!!

...and people started shouting that I was lying... {/cry} Then like 30 minutes later people were like: OMG FF14!!!

I said: /sh I told you that!

Then one person teased me saying I said it 5 seconds after the announcement so of course no one believed me and we all started laughing and talking about it.

SO excited... hope it's in early 2010, I want to play this so bad now!

3 weeks ago I started taking my first break from FFXI after 4 years and wondered if I would come back.

I've been keeping up with e3 news on gamespot and gametrailers, so when I came home from work today I saw the headline "Square Enix 'considering' FFXIV Online for Microsoft hardware" and dove into that article to see what this was all about. Pretty soon I was jumping around the room like many others yelling "YES!!" and "WOOOO!!!".

I was wondering if SE was going to announce it at E3 and I thought about how well the new MMO would run using the FFXIII engine. With this console generation being 3-4 years old SE might want to get a move on with releasing their MMO so it can enjoy a few years while this generation is still current I was thinking. Then boom.

What's so exciting for me is that I didn't think the next MMO was going to be a numbered FF title, I didn't think it would have similarities to FFXI and the news confirmed that it's coming out in 2010 and not 2011 (well, hopefully). This is perfect for me because I feel like I'm about done with FFXI. I'm sure FFXIV will deliver the magic and excitment that FFXI brought back in the day. I'll be looking forward to it.

There seemed to be really strong rumors that Rapture would be unveiled at this years e3, so I was really psyched about it. When I checked the computer to see what had been said and saw "FFXIV", I freaked out a lot. Pretty much exactly what I had been hoping for.

like a soldier crawling through the smoking carnage.
smoldering bodies at my feet,
I'd love to stick around, but I've got someone to meet.
and I will put my best foot forward.
and I'll thank god I made it out of there
on the day when my new friends come.
