My two small suggestions: In-game notepad. If you look at my desk, next to my PC you'll see two composition notebooks filled and stuffed from the last 4+ years I've been playing XI. I have gone through a half ton of post-it notes, backs of envelopes, and scraps of paper to keep stuff together when an electronic notepad would be "more environmentally friendly."

#2) Ability to archive conversations and either store it on your system or send it to your email address

I may be alone in this, but I'd love to just see healing done away with and replaced by some sort of always active/progressive regen/refresh. Maybe you're always getting 1-2 HP/MP a tic, but as your character stays inactive (IE: not fighting/engaged with a mob/something) the more HP/MP you begin getting per tic. So after maybe two tics of 1-2 and no activity you get 5 per tic, then 10, then 20, then 40, then 80. I just think that being inactive is enough to warrant incredibly rapid recovery. I absolutely hate healing. ><

I doubt that getting rid of healing spells is going to happen in this, or just about any other MMORPG. In boss fights, someone's got to tank the boss and take the majority of the damage. If there are no healing spells, then either the boss would have to hit light enough so that the fight is a joke, you'd have to have a tank rotation setup which I think would be more annoying then fun, or the tank is going to fall over dead every time.

Woops, I didn't mean healing spells, obviously those would stay. What I meant was resting, healing, whatever. Where you sit down and act like a stone for a while and slowly gain your HP/MP back.

I hope subjobs are gone in 14. One of the things I hated was having to level 2 or 3 jobs I don't like just so I can play the one I do.

If they want the jobs to be versatile I would rather it be built in to the job itself. For example, if summoner is going to be a healer then they should have an avatar that allows them to be an effective healer (maybe Yuna style where you take control of the aeon itself).

A game should be all about having fun and being in the moment, rather then a series of chores you need to complete to experience the actual content.

This list more-or-less reflects my feelings as well. I just want to add though that sometimes a good long battle is not a bad thing. FF has always been known for it's monstrous boss battles that can take hours and I like that but I think the upper limit on any boss battle or area battle (like Dynamis) should be set to 2-3 hours max.
You can do "epic boss battle" without it taking 3 hours. Ultima/Omega is only 45min cap and it's pretty tiring. 1hr is the most I would really like to see per event. (note it generally takes 30mins to get people together and you can always do multiple events in a row if you're still feeling spry)
I don't believe in good guys versus bad guys anymore… I only see a plethora of states acting in self interest… with varying ethics and moral standards of course, but self-interest nonetheless

One thing I'd like to see is a visible indication of a player being enfeebled.

Like in some of the offline FF's, if you get silenced, for example, the little speech bubble with dots in would appear above the players character.

I always wanted this in FFXI, just to make is easier to see who needs Silena or Paralyna etc without having to check the log.

(Sometimes it would scroll too fast and I'd have to open it up to check the log when mob's used an AoE. Thus missing the action on screen.)

This would be helpful. :)

p.s. this should be a sticky so people can add to this thread instead of everyone making their own "zomg this is what i want and dont want" thread.

I got a better Idea, let this thread burn to ashes and end up on page ten asap.

No More Gear Swapping (changing gear mid battle).

Situational Gear is fine, and having different gear for different events is fine as well. But there should be some sort of penalty for changing your gear, and should not be something that is done every few seconds in the midst of a battle. It makes things very confusing, very hard on people, and very stressing on your inventory. Again, different gear for different situations is a good thing, but changing gear every few seconds to maximize performance during a battle is simply troublesome and annoying.

This is the only point I disagree with you about. I don't know what I would have done playing BRD and BST without gear swapping. For BST I always carried a Charm set and a Battle set of gear, which I swapped out constantly. For BRD, I always swapped out the Pulling set of gear out for the Singing set of gear. As for the rest of your post, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. I second everything, save for gear swapping.

There are a lot of really good ideas here, so I'll try not to repeat them. I'd just like to add that Macrosets could use more lines. I cannot remember how many lines FFXI has (I think 6?)If SE could double the macro lines, that should be more than any sane person would ever need.
