What if SE takes everything they've learned now from XI and apply it to XIV...good right?

What if the game feels too close to XI though? Would you still play it if it was considered a XI clone? Would you be happy or do you hope that they try to get far away? I only ask b/c it looks like we'll be seeing the 5 races again (more or less, galka w/ no tail lol) and wonder what else they'll bring over.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if it were considered a XI clone b/c I enjoyed XI so much but at the same time I want it to be fresh.

I wouldn't mind, everyone getting a fresh start would be fun. Best part about FFXI to me was exploring/adventuring and the stories. All those would be brand new to me in FFXIV; making it all feel fresh.

I think I agree with this . I always regret not getting into FFXI right at the start, when so many things were still unknown, and I'd love the chance to do it with this game.

Well I would love it, not a single MMO I have tried comes close to FFXI, but i do hope they bring it out in the EU from scratch as I was one of the few EU players when it started and it was a pain getting a group.

"For FFXIV, the keyword that we've been using is "The Growth and Development of the Character." We will have the same type of storytelling and high-quality graphics. We also want to expand and create new in-game systems. The player can grow & develop in a more natural way without putting too much weight on the player. We will expand the job system to make it fairly different from the one in FFXI."

Its going to be fairly different from FFXI. As for there being similar races:

"While you may have noticed that some of the same type of races appeared in the trailer, the world of FFXIV is different from FFXI. The reason that we made the races similar to the FFXI races is so FFXI players could choose a similar type of race in the new game. For example, in movies, you might have an actor that plays many different roles. Please, think of it that way."

So its not going to be a FFXI in any way. People who have grown fond of elvaans or tarus can continue to use them in this new game. But its not going to be any similar to FFXI.

If FFXIV = FFXI - bad things + new world + new abilities + great graphics + great gameplay, I'd love it. That's probably a pretty accurate description of what it's going to be actually.

It's going to have to be a clone like if you cloned me and somehow got Superman. I couldn't even manage FF12 because it just felt too much like XI to me. I'm burned out on this gameplay. I don't expect the art style to hugely deviate, and that's fine I suppose, but I'm expecting some major gameplay innovations.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

It'll be new and shiny.

It'll have similar races, but different backhistory.

It'll have similar storytelling.

It'll be released simultaneously worldwide with worldwide servers (basically we'll all know from the start that the servers will be worldwide, and not have it surprising us like before).

It'll have its own set of problems and errors, different from FFXI's.

Basically, bad things will exist in all MMOs, no matter what you do. They will have done what they think they can to improve on FFXI's system, as no one can not improve from previous experience (unless they're just idiots), but no one can be perfect. Expecting it to be will just result in a complete let-down.

No matter what, it's going to feel fresh and new. It'll feel like that first time you logged into Vana'diel and just took everything in. Just remember what it was like when you first logged in and it'll be like that again.

I wouldn't mind that much at all =P. But they probably are going to have to expand on some solo aspects a bit more. But **** I would be lying if I said I wouldn't enjoy it playing just like XI >:). And yeah catching an MMORPG I look forward right as it launches is something I missed the first time with XI and look very much forward to being able to do with the next one.

im fine with XI so long as they fix a few things

1)the terrible economy

2)the way so many things felt slow and boring...not hard, just slow and boring. not just going from zone to zone to wherever you were going to level up,but the leveling itsself was boring because, imo, the combat was so slow paced. and for quests as well...after you went what felt like 98373987 miles away, you had to go all the way back and talk the original npc again and get your reward...a trivial amount of gil and/or a crappy item. that aint gonna cut it. it doesnt need to be a huge sum of gil an amazing item and 100000000000 exp <shut up, i know theres "no 'exp'" you know what i mean> but ide like my reward to be...rewarding, y'know? seems like the only rewarding things are endgame. so while leveling up we're not allowed to get rewarded and do fun stuff? thats bull. we should be allowed to enjoy ourselves right from the get go. im paying real money everymonth to play the game ontop of X amount of money i used to buy the installation disks. i better be having fun right away lol

3)on another thread somebody said something along the lines of

"in XI there are HUGE zones...with nothing in them. you trek through them forever and you dont see anything, you dont get anything...you just run/ride/whatever until your out of the zone and into the next one till you get to where you wanna get for whatever purpose. its like they were wasting all that space by not doing anythign with it"

i mightve added a bit, but that was the gist of it. i want huge zones <maybe even no zones at all...i personally dont care either way but some people have brought that up as a possiblity and that doesnt sound unappealing...my only worry is a monster of a super high level chasing you to a super low level area and pwning every noob in sight in an unstoppable fury> with lots in them. not just monsters but other stuff to do as well <though definately more monsters>

if they fix the above, i wouldnt case if it was a clone in every other way

I wouldn't mind— but going from what they said, a lot of things are going to go off in tangents/ expand on ffxi principles.

It's going to feel like XI. You're going to see many things that obviously come straight from XI. In fact, your roommate's going to walk in and say, "Wow, you're playing XI? I heard there was a new one out now."

Simular races - Tarus will be short, Galka will be big, Elvans will be elfish, and Humes will be human.

Simular story telling - You start as a no one and slowly grow in popularity and fame to become a respected adventurer and ultimately save the land from some evil force. More than likely, we will still represent different nations and come together to fight this evil.

What will be different? Everything. It's a whole new world, complete with a different story and gameplay mechanics.

Will it feel like XI? Yes, obviously. Will it be different? Obviously, yes.

It's like throwing away an old pair of Nike's and putting on a new pair. Sure, it looks the same, Swish and all, but the feel is different.

Just go into it with the mentalitiy of not knowing anything. Allow yourself the pleasure of relearning, and if you get homesick just ask that taru next to you to do a teapot dance. Just don't be surprised if he backhands you this time around.

If its just a general sense, like aesthetics, its okay. But if it doesn't have its own identity it will tank pretty hard. Even if it has downsides, they need to be different ones.

If XIV is a new and improved version of Xi with a few twists i would be incredibly excited, here's why.

I joined FFXI about 2 months after NA release, it was my first MMO, and from the time i first logged in i felt like i was in that world. The way SE immersed you into the game is nothing like any other game has done for me. I hope in some way they keep this trait in XIV.

After about a year, and getting to 61BLM, 49DRK, and a bunch of jobs in the 30's i moved onto *gasp*.... WoW. While i never reached end-game content i really wished i had stayed and saw what it was like. I tried to get my account back but, alas it was gone forever and return home to vana'diel did not work for me.

I started over from scratch 2 times, but it never felt the same, the people i had known from my first ls's, and friends i had made had moved on as well. The game felt very different after coming back after being gone a fer years, and is why i still am currently sitting in WoW, waiting for XIV, not to make the same mistake i did in XI.

In general i hope they make a game as good as a XI was, and be able to meet the kind of people i did while in XI. As long as there is a sense of community, and a world to get immersed in, i will enjoy it... and as long as its no "too" science fictiony.

Sounds just like me really. I started FFXI on its first day and I loved it! The world was so beautiful and I loved exploring it, the first time I saw the waterfall in Gustaberg I was like o______O I quit when my exams came around though, I never had the time to get parties n stuff so I saw it as a waste of money, I started up WoW instead.
I've never gone back to FFXI, well I tried to once when my account was still there but as you said it just wasn't the same, so with that I deleted the character. /sniff was hard to do. My linkshell friends had all found new ones or quit and the economy had gotten worse.
Playing WoW isn't anything like FFXI though, I don't get the same feel of accomplishment from it, its too easy for me. I hope that with them making FFXIV soloable they don't make it as easy as WoW is.

I couldn't finish 12 for the exact same reason. I think if people want the FFXI experience then they can stay with FFXI, it's not dead yet, as for me I'm looking for something new.

Your asking if i would play a new FF game, if it felt like an older FF game?

Seriously?
