How much excitement this has gotten. I for one am thrilled to have the info, just wish we didn't have to wait so long.

They have really gotten the crowds going!

Indeed, they definitely made a good decision in distancing the game from FFXI so it didn't feel like a complete retread. At the same time, they also raised a lot of excitement by making the characters familiar to players of FFXI.

Overall, I'd say SE has possibly made a slam dunk of a game for FFXI players if they can execute it right.

Not just for FFXI players. SE has an incredible opportunity to take those things that worked very well in FFXI (ie. lore), adapt it around what a more developed MMO community has come to consider necessary for a good MMO, and throw in some new innovation that could potentially drop other MMO developers (including Blizzard) on their respective ears, and that's exciting news for any MMO gamer whether you play/played FFXI or not ;D

I've always liked FFXI for its graphics and I'm sure this one will not dissapoint running the same engine as FFXIII. With the experience of things that have worked and did not worked I can expect to have the things we had on ffxi that we loved like Chocobo raising, level sync and much more from day one. Level Sync is already even confirmed being from day one.

They didn't actually say that.

Q: FFXI has evolved a lot over the years, especially in the areas of player accessibility and the ability to solo. Will you carry over features like level sync and other features to FFXIV?
12:04
A: Yes. All of the knowledge and experience we gained from FFXI will be used in the development of FFXIV. At the launch, we intend to have content for solo players as well as large-scale battles. We want a wide-variety from the start.

But the masses are going to misread that as "Level Sync is in".

EDIT: I R GUD KWOTER
