We can hope. I did notice that getting that e-mail took a while on my Yahoo account. Ended up registering on my college account cause I thought the e-mail didn't go through. Got the confirmation e-mail instantly on my college account but took around 30 minutes or so before it ever reached my Yahoo account.

It's just a newsletter. Usually companies have a specific beta sign-up, right? If anything, subbing to this will tell you WHEN you can sign up for beta.

I registered with my gmail account and got an email from them about 2 minutes later.

Yeah, but I still want to be overly excited and make wild speculations with no evidence at all! Smiley: glare

Game is 5 years old. Beta will start at the latest next spring.

Good joke lol, I mean it's not like the game would have been in development for the past five years or so.

I would imagine they have a pretty good set of Beta testers already from FFXI and the expansions. The kind of people who the developers are used to, and are used to what the developers want. I also bet most those guys wouldn't hate going over and testing the new game.

It's very possible they won't be soliciting any new beta testers until very late in the closed beta... when they are stressing the servers in preparation for the open beta.

I registered for that yesterday and still haven't received any kind of confirmation. It was kind of lagging and I had to go back a page and redo it...maybe I'll try it again.

EDIT: Says it's already registered.

they should send surveys to old FFXI players and choose some for the closed beta.

While FFXI players as beta testers would give some good feedback on FFXIV, it would be foolish to say they would be the best source for testing. You'd want play-testers from all types to be sure that you would be appealing to a wider range. And you'd also want people who like different styles of play. The best way to do this is not to restrict yourself to one audience only.

I hope the beta isn't just current FFXI players. I really want to give it a try. To be honest, this sounds like it's being handled a lot better from the start. I mean, FFXI was good at launch, but it's good to hear that feedback sounds more important to 14. I'm feeling pretty hopeful!

I've been in a lot of betas and you most certainly get preference when you participate in the community and sign up for newsletters. The key to getting into a game beta is to show honest interest in the game. They don't want people that are just looking for a free preview, they want real testers and the best testers are those that are interested in the game and want it to succeed.
