The Reinventing of DRGFollow

Dragoon was and is a great job for me. But as some jobs its missing something it needs to be awesome. Its not related to damage rather our cute little pet called the wyvern. Into this I'll bring comparisons from other pet based jobs. we Dragoons seem to be the pet based job with least options with our pet. Sure we can heal our wyvern with a recast timer ability but that's mostly about it. Unless you count our useless 2 Hour ability.

Pup can modify the armor of their puppets hence changing their looks and behavior. It improves stats and makes it stronger. Why can't we get any armor for our dragon or even more better why can't our dragon grow as we level up? By the time we reach max level it would be the size of Fenrir. That brings another pet based job into the equation. Summoner. Why do they a get a cooler dragon than us? It might be a summon draining mp but when I saw that electric dragon summon I felt I was being given a poochie as a DRG. If Summoner has such cool summons we should be able to have one cool dragon comparable in awe to wyrms or other huge dragons which simply shock you with awesomeness. I'm not asking for a dragon the size of Fafnir but just something close to the max size of a pet.

How about Beastmaster? Beastmaster can feed its pet and send it to attack just as summoner can send his carbuncle to pull. Pups can also send their puppet to attack. We have to sit down to heal our dragon and we have to attack ourselves so dragon will attack. I want more control over my wyvern and I want more variety on my wyvern. Why should all wyverns look the same? How about bringing some Chocobo raising into the mix. By raising it and taking care of it with a raiser it could grow stronger, bigger and even change color. Call it a sort of AF quest for your dragon.

How should a dragoon be reinvented in FFXIV?

Dragon magic should definitely be given to them, as with Freya in FF9 and previous Dragoon archetypes. Lowered timers for jumps would be nice aswell.

If we're talking literal FFXI jobs being taken and shoved into FFXIV and then tweaked, which I think is HIGHLY unlikely compared to starting over with the same archetype and building classes from the ground up, this is what I think.

DRG had become pretty much the only non lolPET job left in XI, and that's because it doesn't fundamentally rely on the wyvern. It adds a little bit of DoT, and adds WS damage, but unless you're DRG/mage and healing, you work just as good witout your pet as you do with your pet. Any of the other 3 pet jobs are absolutly crippled without their pet.

It's going to be a trade off. You can't ask for one of the top DD in the game to get the functionality and control of a true pet like a puppetmaster has over their auto and expect it to be balanced.

I think pet jobs should stay in XIV, but I also think SE needs to pay a little more attention to them in regards to how they stack up to other jobs across the board.

As for how I think things will actually happen. XIV will most likely have a Dragoon or Lancer job, but you might be saying goodbye to the wyvern. You might not, but it's a possibility worth considering, because, like you already said, it's not really a pet, it just kinda sits there and does it's thing.

Dragoon has been a common job to lots of FF games, so it's plausible it'll still exist but I doubt in any form it is in FFXI. I don't remember but has any other form of the 'Dragoon' job had a pet?

True. If more control over the pet is not done I would at least like a more cooler looking dragon that grows over time. I'm pretty sure a lancer would be a warrior with a lance. If DRG ceases to exist I guess I'll become a Samurai. That little dragon pet is what keeps me going. No other mmorpg has such a job. I've seeing lancers before yes but not dragoons with dragons.

We'll see what happens. I'm loving the game anyway and there are plenty of jobs to try if DRG ever disapears.

Drg magic of some kind.
I really would like to see a selection of dragons you can pick from ie differnt colour, size ect.

Over all if Drg is included in XIV with or without the dragon i would still choose it as my main class.

The defining point of dragoons has always been the ability to jump actually, not the dragon. Lances are most commonly used, but not always either. They often do have some sort of dragon magic. (In FF10 Kimori is both blue mage and dragoon). FF11 is the only game with a pet. Not every game has a dragoon class.

So from that, if it exists, I imagine it will have a spear and jump ability, other than that, it's wiiiiide open.

I am smelling DRG without a pet for FFXIV, I could be wrong, but then again, as stated above when did DRG have a Wyvern pet before FFXI? Yes, I know DRGs love their pets but we will definitely see changes to everything.

Yeah, I think it's unlikely the Dragoon in FFXIV will even have a pet. Apart from some series traditions (DRG will have a lance and jump on things, MNK will punch stuff and use Chakra, BLM will blow stuff up with the usual spells, etc.), I hope and expect that every job will be thoroughly reimagined. And DRG, with its bumpy history throughout FFXI, was probably the first one they looked at for a fundamental overhaul.

Since we have no idea how the gameplay works, we might as well use our imaginations. So DRG, hmm, let's see... Maybe job abilities in this game could be more than just animations. Maybe the DRG can jump around the map, over walls, and all sorts of things. Maybe he can jump up on King Behemoth's back and stab him in his weak spot (for massive damage).

Anything seems possible.

Oh wow, the game isn't even out yet, and there are no details what-so-ever, and the dragoons are true to form with complaining the job isn't good enough.

DRG is epic because of Kain in FFIV, this job probably will be there.
They don't need a wyrm pet at all, Kain didn't have one

Kain. Now that's a reason to pick up dragoon. Guess I had grown too attached to my little friend. I still love my jumps and polearms. Guess I'm staying lancer or DRG or whatever comes out.
