A different kind of thread: Which jobs won't make the cut?Follow

Well, the SE reps disclosed that there will be an overhauled Job system for FFXIV. My question is:

Which FFXI jobs will not make the cut, and why? (I am hoping every single job does make it in, but I am trying to be realistic, 20 jobs from the start?)

I am thinking the following jobs might not make it because of design probably:

Beastmaster - If the battles will be both against groups and single foes there is a chance BST would be severely underpowered the way it works in most FF games, including FFXI. (I play BST in FFXI, but I don't know what will happen, I want to play BST from day one, SE, can it be in there, please?)

Puppetmaster - Same as BST, and the job was new for FFXI, so we don't even know how well the concept will work in FFXIV.

Scholar - Since this job works with weather effects and we don't know how weather will be implemented in FFXIV, there could be a chance this job might not be implemented from the get go.

Blue Mage - This job will depend of how SE manages to make the battle system work in FFXIV, but has better chance than the other job to work.

From my humble point of view the rest of the jobs will probably be a lot easier to implement in FFXIV and well. We can be safe SMN must be there because Summoning is a staple of almost every FF game ever made and the game would feel very not FF without them.

I think primary FF jobs, which always been in FFs in any or other way will be in FFXIV so soon, WHM, BLM, SMN, PLD, DRK, THF i'm pretty sure these classic FF jobs will be there, some others would have to see, probably at the start there ain't many.

It's hard to say because the jobs will be tailored to the new game, for example a blue mage won't play exactly the same as the one from FFXI. That's what I'm thinking, so I don't think they would be any need to cut any of them.

There's really no way to tell until we get a bit more info. We couldn't even call it an educated guess at the moment. I liked RDM and DRG in FFXI but even if they make it into FFXIV who's to say they will be the same as we know them now?

As long as they are not as spoony as Edward I am ok with that. Please SE, do not make BRD as useless as in FFIV this time around, BRD in FFXI was awesome, stick to that template if it works in FFXIV, k?

Well they did say 'play it your way' and that they wanted all playing types from the start, even soloers... so I hope hope hope that have BST or a BST type job as well. It's the one job I always wanted to 75 but always got distracted by leveling other things. =(

Personally?

I don't think most of the jobs in their current iterations should make the cut.

As to hypothesizing ones that won't actually make the cut... that's difficult. While I've been removed from the game for some time, I see 20 jobs thriving wholly. No reasons for cuts; there's no fat to trim.
#9EarthSage, Posted: Jun 03 2009 at 5:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Corsair wont make it, Scholar wont make it, dancer wont make it, Pld will probably make it but will be called something else possibly Knight or viking. Pup definitly wont make it.

Well first you gotta take the jobs that are so basic, that if they weren't there, you'd end up shooting yourself.
I'm talking about Blackmage, whitemage, warrior, thief, monk, redmage. I could be missing something, just tired that's all.
after any of that, just pure speculation.

Also gotta look at it as that game looked pretty futuristic, I'd say something some things more scientistic is in order. (Yeah I made up that word... ; ; )
I call for Alchemist and Engineer.

If they were to "Trim the Fat" so to speak, and eliminate jobs altogether, I'm sure they would implement something to still spiritually embody those jobs.

Think of it like this:
6 Basic classes (the starting ones from FFXI)
From there, as you gain levels (say @ 30) you can open a job tree for that class; WHM would progress to Dancer, BLM to SMN, RDM to SCH, etc.
Think FFI when the 4 warriors got their power up classes. No support class, but retain your abilities from level 1-30 of your original jobs.

Also, I'm not saying it be static; rather, if a WHM wants to "Evolve" to a SMN, then they would be like a SMN/WHM in FFXI, but they could make it flexible enough to where a BLM "evolves" to a SMN and retains potent nuking and enfeebling abilities.

Just a thought.

Oh, and as much as I love this job, I highly doubt we'll see a PUP in this game...it just wasn't well received by the community, and never gained a major niche roll like other jobs; BUT I could be completely wrong of course, its all speculation at this point.

Jobs that wouldn't make the cut, that is hard to say. I wouldn't be surprised to see PUP dropped. COR too for that matter. BST maybe as I don't remember seeing anything like this in other FF games. RNG I can see being divided into jobs with more specific weapon focuses (eg- archers use bows and cross bows, some other job would have guns).

I'm pretty sure they'll keep many of the classic jobs that really stand out due to specific characters from previous FF games(DRG, DRK, SMN, etc.). I'm hoping they'll add some of the jobs from FFT that haven't yet made it into FFXI (time mage and geomancer in particular).

With the races being made the same as in FFXI I'm not sure what direction they will take the new game. I was expecting something based in Ivalice so that they could draw apon the races and jobs developed for the more recent FFT games.

Please people, think Final Fantasy.

The developers said they would be making 'The best Final Fantasy ever made'.

Would be BS if it was the creators of FFXII or even Sage Sundi. But this is the crew that made FFIII (US).

The jobs will be FF jobs. Warrior, thief, white mage, black mage. You get the picture.

It's not going to branch off the Final Fantasy job list into WoW or WaR areas, because: IT'S A FINAL FANTASY GAME.

If SE wanted to make a MMO with entirely new jobs/classes they easily could have called it ANYTHING ELSE.

IT IS A NUMBERED FINAL FANTASY NOW.

All that said, I bet corsair is replaced by a Gambler (which is a job created in the FFIII(US) game), Puppetmaster is probably going to get replaced by an Engineer (which is a job from FFIII(US).. think Edgar), and blue mage will... well STILL BE A BLUE MAGE, FANS WERE REQUESTING A BLU SINCE THE ZILART EXPANSION.

Of course there will be a summoner. A white mage. A black mage. A thief (or rouge, or assassin).

Beyond that the Final Fantasy universe is ours to play with in theory making. Maybe they graduate (black mage to Magus, whm to summoner, thf to assasain or ninja, mnk to black belt, warrior to pld or drk) ala FFI.

But please let's keep this in the realm of final fantasy.

AND THERE ARE NO NECROMANCERS IN FINAL FANTASY, DAMMIT SINCE COP I HAVE HEARD THAT CRAP IT IS OLD.

I will see you all in FFXIV with my geomancer/timemage. And the only one I will be afraid of is the Bacon mage.

But Bacon Mages are easily defeated if their onion knight goes down on my Toast Bread attack, at which point all they can do is become a tasty sandwich.

One interesting idea to consider is the possibilty of truly customizable characters and the job system won't really exist like it does in XI. This system could be somewhat remniscent of X or XII where you earn points to unlock different abilities/spells/equipment types. Some of the traditional jobs did appear to be represented on the XIV site, so perhaps you choose a basic job class and then customize as you level (if there are levels at all). This could be unique way to create a very diversified player base.

I seriously want to see Mystic Knight in FFXIV, ever since FFV it got bastardized and turned into a 'part of x job' or 'need y job to make it work'. I want to see a glorious return of this Job since it was my favorite from FFV.
