Anyone else hoping that SE decides to let us actually fight monsters this time around? I don't know about anyone else but one of my biggest gripes about FFXI was the fact that almost all enemies were just basic wildlife critters. In other Final Fantasies you mostly fought monsters, yes there were some animals and such but they always seemed a lot more "monstrous" than what we have in Final Fantasy.

The teaser video looks promising with all those lil buggers coming onto the ship. I just hope most creatures are monstrous in nature that are meant to be fought.

I take it you've never seen an Orc, Quadav, or Yagudo? Either that or you've got some messed up local wildlife.

Because Dragons, Behemoths, dolls, Morbols, Hecteyes, orbs and other weird things we fought in FFXI were not monsters, right?

Or do you think SE will make FFXIV into Chtulu Online (that would be cool, tho)?

Even way back in FFI a lot of the mobs actually were local wildlife like crocs and sharks. Of course there were the imps and ogres too, but FFXI had goblins all over right? And technically, a lot of the 'monsters' are fantasy wildlife anyways. Morlborl are wildlife for instance.

I know a Gnat is technically wildlife, but for Pete's sake, those things are freaking monsters no matter what you say!

Ok, yes there are monsters in the game but players tend to avoid such creatures and instead kill crabs, birds, mandragoras, and other mundane critters. I'd like not to spend my time killing pink birdies or crabs for hours on end or to have bunnies of doom slaying people. :( Maybe it's just me.

Yeah, I saw that and liked it. I have little issue with fighting hostile wildlife (Crocs, Sharks, etc) or monstrous wildlife (Gnats, Malboro, etc) but I'm not really a fan of butchering pink birds and little rabbits as my main source of combat. :( I just hope the game is filled with more monstrous varieties that are good to slay instead of Bambi's friends.
