Considering character creation, to me I don't like the feel of selecting from the same races to make a new character. Though they are not the same and may even be called something different, they are basically taken from the 5 races of Altana.

What I would like to see and one of the things I liked from WoW and L2 was different factions. Not only have the 5 races that we've grown to love but 5 other races of opposite factions. I like the choice of not only selection, but to be good or evil as well. But allow communication, even befriending the enemy (at times). I hated that about WoW where you couldn't understand what they were saying. Also I wouldn't want to see a Xi-LS' coming to XIV split up b/c one half prefers one side while some the other.

As far as PvP goes I've always loved it and thought Xi needed something more than a Ballista-type event. Although always hated starting a new MMORPG and there is some high lvl *** camping new players. Perhaps something like a Mentor-like status where you could "/pvp on" or "/pvp off". Allow party and exp with opposite factions, causing a "Protected" state where PvP can't be activated while members of opposite factions are in same party/alliance.

But didn't mean to get into PvP, lets get to what I really meant to say...

IF there were more than the 5 current races, what would you want to be?

I've always been a fan of Dark Elves with most games I've played, although I also wouldn't mind being a Yagudo! :D

I've always been a human in all of the RPGs I've played, so I don't really have an opinion on what "other races" I've want to be as. Human was always my comfort zone.

For Character Creation though, I don't believe there is a need for more races: Five is plenty. However, there needs to be more options for the character creation. This mean tattoos, haircuts, body shapes, etc.. What SE can really take a look at is what Aion is doing: Their customization is limitless. You can even modify the weapon/armors you obtain to keep a unique look throughout the game. All in FFXI we have is practically pallete swaps. You know it's bad when the freaken NPCs look exactly the same as you.

Hopefully they'll expand on the Customization on FFXIV by a large margin. It got pretty outdated in FFXI.

I don't see FFXIV going for factions. JRPGs and Final Fantasy, in general, seem to be very team oriented and unite against a common enemy, type games.

I agree with this. I don't see there being other factions. However your PvP idea isn't half bad. I know one way or another they need some decent PvP, but it does not need to by any means be Open PvP. That was one of the HUGEST things that set Lineage 2 back and kept it from being an incredible game.

The /pvpon and /pvpoff commands could be nice. I've personally always thought certain zones/arena's you could go to would be the best course of action.

One way or another, I can almost guarantee we will be seeing a new race or two, probably one, as well as Male Mithra which are almost positively going to be added (although not confirmed yet). Not only that, even though there will be some styles transfered over, I bet all the races will have some new styles/faces to choose from as well.

Tho I agree that this is true, Dissidea Final Fantasy lets you pick sides.

Honestly really don't care for factions, its just that I was hoping for something new, not pick a race similar to one I've been playing as for the past few years. Tho I kno asking for more than 5 races is much, to me it feels like more customization then selecting between faces and hairstyle (tho that is important to).

I vote against a dichotomous faction system. FFXI already had countries which wasn't too cumbersome.

I'd like to see alot more customisation available in the character creation rather than just picking a head type. Something more like The Sims style so you can tweak different facial features, hair style etc.

I think 5 races were enough in XI, and who knows what we can see in XIV.
I don't mind having non-playable other races around too, a la XII.

Speaking about Player Characters, I'd like a deeper customization (eye color, hair color, hairstyle, body parts size and features, maybe tatoos, skin color), but seeing today's standards I'd guess these are a given.

Also no opposite factions, but I think something like XI (allied cities) is what we can expect.

I just want their avatars in the character design menu to look like what it does in-game rather than some sort of artistic versions of them.

^ I agree with this, I remember I made a mithra with the hair that had the option of being white or brown, in game, the brown one was ginger. -.-

But anywayz, what I hated about character creation in FFXI was, you could only choose from 2 hair colours with each style. I'd love it if they did this:

* Let you choose any hair colour with each style.
* Have it so you can choose 'patterns' on skin, like with Mithra make it so you can choose which of the fur patterns they have on their faces. Or make your hume have freckles or maybe tatoos. etc.
* Skin tones. I'm not too fussed about this but it would be nice, I've noticed alot of people saying they would like to have black characters.
* Eye colour? Again, not too fussed with that but makes your char that much more unique.
* Body size. Now I couldn't really see how this worked in FFXI, if anyone wants to explain to me feel free, but I'd prefer the body size thing allowing you to choose from a few heighs and er...builds I guess.

Hoping for a bevvy of options, specifically for hair. We've already been talking about this a bit in the previous thread about character creation.

i too don't see IV going in factions...

Reasons:
1. It effectly splits the player base's group options in half. If you can only join groups "parties" with people from the same group or factions... it just would be too hard to support itself imo... it was hard enough making parties in XI. i mean... if you really needed a brd... at just the right lvl for an exp party... there might be 1... just 1 seeking or whm for that matter... if there were factions... that 1 might be on the other faction and ur just screwed out of luck.

*I understand other mmo's like wow do it... but honestly wow really did have a bigger player base than XI so it could work out*
*yes you could just double the server capacity and have less servers, but that might take things away from the game because each server would have to support more people... servers have limits*

2. One thing it seemed like XI was that an entire server seemed like a community, it was nice, i liked it, instead of being split up and having half the server literally on an opposing side.

3. Also... they have said PVP won't be huge in IV it will have a similar role as in XI. Without a Large Scale PVP system making Factions would be fairly pointless... I liked XI's conquest campaign, it gave a feeling of competition with other nations yet it didn't make you hate them or anything.

One feature (out of many) i'de like to see is a customizable run/walk for your character... well a selection from different styles... a walk/run says a ton about personality i think it would be a good idea to have a few different styles for each race. It would add a lot of individuality to players... you may find another toon that looks just like you, but different run/walk could really make you different.

Alliance/Horde != Good/Evil. Goddamnit that's what I hated about WoW.
And no. SE holds the belief that a FF MMO should be all about cooperation; about banding together and overcoming differences and all that happy fun time friendship Pokemon crap. I kinda like that idea, even though not everyone does. It's just what is going to happen, despite the probable bone thrown to PvP.

I'd really like these races:
"Black Mage" race (what Vivi is)
"Gria" but both male and female
Moogles

There are plenty of other options that are canonical, but I just don't particularly care for. I could make several suggestions that have little foundation in FF lore though, like playable Dragon"folk", Demons, Treants, Golems, or Frogs/Porogo. All have been enemies in some incarnation, and I think could be made into nice playable races.

I think they should add M/F Viera and Bangaa purely because many people would like them.

****, I really wouldn't mind playable Tonberry or Cactaur, but those seem just a little difficult to swing.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.
