I'm going to "knock on wood" before i claim this...
This is one of the only threads that hasn't gone to the crapper.I guess i'm just sick of pouring through other threads for some insight... and finding nothing but mindless quips about WoW or something other than FFXIV. I'm hoping most of those people land on some noob server. Please no gripping or agreeing with me.. or disagreeing... my only purpose for this thread is to let people who gave up on MMORPGs after enjoying XI to know there are more of us out there.. waiting for XIV. Come in and say Hi & share your thoughts and stories on why you left and what you are looking forward to.

I've been playing since US release till 2008 with a 6 month break 2006.
FFXI is the best MMORPG I've ever played despite all the problems it had/still has.
The atmosphere it creates together with the great community were the things which kept me playing for such a long time.

And then I red the news about FFXIV and couldn't believe it ^_^
I've been waiting for SE's next MMO to come back and play again. And while still reading the news I decided to do both.
I'll play FFXIV for sure and hope many of my old FFXI buddies will do so too. And till then I'll come back to FFXI to have some more fun.

The Final Fantasy games always offered great stories and unique gameplay.
So I'm confident that FFXIV won't copy any other MMORPG but will have it's own maybe revolutionary ideas and concepts and that it will be a great game.
The best part for me is the worldwide release at the same time.

I played RDM to the mid-60s before I moved on. Wished I got to experience some endgame, but oh well. I did get rank 6, get my full AF and did all the 30-60 CoP mission stuff. I enjoyed most aspects of the game other than leveling.

I too am interested in FFXIV. Not overly excited, mind you, but interested. I'll check it out and if the gameplay has improved over XI (the level grind being the primary reason why I left) then I will continue to play it. If not, I'll still be interested in the few other upcoming MMOs that look good (namely the SC MMO and SW:TOR). If there is forced grouping where I beat on a rabbit with a stick for four hours, I will not play the game longer than the initial trial. No offense to the remaining FFXIers but IMO that was terrible game design.

I started FFXI on 10/30/03 and loved/hated every minute I lived there. The last time I logged in was mid-June of '08, and that was after a year of logging in once or twice a week to say hi to friends who were still there, or to go digging or fish. A whole year to break away.

I'm playing WOW with friends from FFXI. I enjoy it, but the day..the hour FFXIV goes live I will be there.
Most of my friends are pumped, there's a few who are resistant because of SE's treatment of the player base over the years.
I can't wait.

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me right back in again"-sign spotted in the stands of Fenway Park during game 5 of the 2004 ALCS

I started playing FFXI at the NA release, and played up until a couple years ago. I was all done. Never going back. Uh-uh. No friggin' way. But I still had a jones for MMO's so I tried joining the heard and played WoW for a few months. Not bad, but lacked a certain...epic quality that I had come to expect. And man, was this easy...level 35 in about a month, and that's playing casualy.

Then I tried Eve. Interesting, but a steep learning curve to the PVP stuff, and not very...personal or again, epic. I've moved on to City of Heroes, which is fun, but I've prety much solo'd my way to level 40, and instead of getting more difficult, it's getting easier.

I heard about Star Wars: Old Republic and figgured that was it....that would be the game that brought back my love of MMO's. Bioware knows how to tell an epic story, and I love KotOR, so sign me u....

What? FFXIV?? But I HATE FFXI. FIghting crabs on a beach until the end of time...now way....

Then I remembered:

The first time I claimed Leaping Lizzy...what an adrenalin rush.

The terrifying, yet ultimatly satisfying first run to Jueno.

Getting my RNG AF3 hat solo, and running out of Castle O. with 30 of those **** dirty birds chasing me.

The first time I saw Sky.

Beating CoP (pre-nerf)

Hitting level 75.

Crap...I realized no matter how frustrating it was, and how much I hated LFP for hours on end and not being able to solo, that I've never had as much fun on an MMO as I did in FFXI.

So yeah, I'm back. They are saying all the right things. Against my better judgement I'm going to pick it up on release and start again.

I hope I have as much fun as last time :)

Seeing as I left FFXI a month prior to the announcement I was in total surprise.

As much as I liked FFXI, there's just too much for me to accomplish with so little time and patience for relying on people.

Learning all the mistakes I've made in XI regarding joining shells, parties, jobs, and endgame, I think a fresh start is in order. I'm hoping there is more to solo grinding, cause if this is another "party only with the popular/needed job" kind of deal I may as well look somewhere else.

Definitely going with a new name though. I've used Raide as an avatar name since the early 2000s.

This FFXI retiree can't wait to logon to FFXIV when it finally comes out. This time around I'm going to get both the PC and Console versions of the game. I've been waiting on buying a console to replace my first generation PS2 just to see what the next FF was going to be made for.

I'm a retired FFXI gamer, who happens to be excited about this. I pop on the Allakhazam forums every now again. Only this last time I was surprised to see the release of FFXIV, and, ohhhh, I'll be signing on FFXIV on release day.
Square Enix, if you're listening, please make use of the headsets for xp pts and small groups of people. Makes it soooo much smoother to coordinate attacks when you don't have to type out commands when in a crunch. OH AND COULD YOU MAKE THIS MMO FREE, YES PLEASE.
Thank you.
p.s. Taru-power forever.

I played FFXI from years 3-5. My MMO love will always belong to FFXI as it is what first gave me a taste of non FPS online gaming. After some time, farming sky, dynamis and looking for group for hours just to earn 1 merit point before healer bailed the game just got a little stale.

Currently I play WoW and once again, I find myself lost in and endless loop of endgame nonsense and I feel I always miss out on a big portion of these MMO's cause I join later on.

Then an announcement, and a teaser video FFXIV, a brand new MMO from the minds that gave me my first RPG and first MMO, I got excited.. real excited. I'm not saying im ready to jump in, but I will follow this game closely and if SE does what I hope they will.. I will finally get to play a wonderful, immersive game from launch as opposed to joining when level capped people are running around geared out and im in bronze scale armor >.>

Ok well this is turning into a wall of text but if anyone from the fenrir server remembers me Aremethius, ill be back and we should all rock onto the same server once again.

I love the headset idea but free MMO means bad, they take our money in order to keep hardware updated and mass amounts of staff keeping things as smooth as possible, I would love a free MMO just as much as the next guy but realistically it would hurt the game and our experience within it.

I decided i would never play another MMO after XI but as soon as i saw the announcement i knew that wasn't going to happen. I came into XI kinda late and it felt like i was playing catch up from day 1 so what i'm most looking forward to with 14 is just staring at the same time as everyone else, and that feeling i had the first few days/weeks of XI when i saw everything for the first time, nothing i did in almost 3 years of playing ever came close to that feeling.

I had the same problem. I quit FF11 in 2004 and started playing WoW. As the years went by Blizzard made the game more and more casual friendly since that was what most of its player base are. Finally I gave up in 2008. I tried to get back into FFXI but realized that this is a game that I left so long ago, I had very good memories from it and I just couldn’t make myself to start all over again from 0.

I knew they worked on FF14/Rapture since 2005 but I wished they would have released it a bit faster, 6 years of development is a lot.

Also now when everyone starts from 0, there is a completely different feeling. This will give you a good chance to level up with a lot of other people and make good friends with them.

Welcome to opening day for the North America release of FFXI. We were playing catchup while the overseas crowd had a huge headstart.

They said in an interview it would be worldwide though didn't they, so no worries there then.

I just wish XIV would be out a bit sooner. I'm going crazy playing WoW trying to kill time up to it, prolly have one of every character at 80 before XIV hehe. Listening to all the old FFXI music is making me miss it like mad too, I loved almost all the music in that game, I hope they can do the same with the XIV soundtrack.

Does anyone have a link to the trailer from like IGN? My work internet blocks Youtube and Google video so I can't seem to find it.

Thinking back on my first immersion to ffxi and about all I can remember is the insane loading/installing time it took on ps2 the night of release ~ about 8 hours worth, so when I finally got into the game it was incredible. I still have the Ronfaure and San d'Oria music on my Ipod because its so good. I was level 10 before I knew what the Auction house was haha.

After a couple years of playing, numerous Dynamis and Sky runs, buying a better surround sound system because Dyna-Xarc music was the **** and my neighbors just had to listen to it; I quit out of boredom and found solice in WoW. I think back to FFXI alot, but could never get back into it.

One thing they better not change is the party-leveling system. Not to say that soloing - especially in Wow - isn't fun or productive, but in XI when you levelled you met people, learned your class better, gained reputation and friends and more often than not, after 5 hours killing crabs you'd leave with a new shellmate or static party.

Can't wait to newb it up again

I too am just plain sick of WoW at the moment. I got 2 80's geared out in 3 specs (pally and druid) . All I really do is log on to raid and maybe alt it up a bit if im completely bored. I want XIV to have optional group grinding (instanced so you dont compete for pulls) and solo quest grinding so both types of players can level with relative ease. I just hope I can link up with some old buddies from the Fenrir server on XI so we can all experience the new game together.

I disagree on eve its VERY epic one of the most epic games I've ever played. Thing about eve and the devs make no illusions about it, the players really drive that game. Without players to make epic things happen then yea its alot of empty space. But get in a good corp and get in a corp war sometime, watch 80 battleships duking it out and tell me its not epic. Yes very steep learning curve, yes the grind for isk bad, but theres some very epic things Ive witnessed in my time on eve. An armada of 40 ships getting togther to hunt down a notorious player pirate with a billion isk bounty on his head. Battles with player pirates in 0 sec space, corporation wars building your own corporate space station and taking over an entire star system.

City of heroes is one of those games thats so much better in groups. Yes you can solo all the way to cap but its horribly boring get in a good party of 8 and go do some max difficulty missions its alot of fun for awhile, then it all becomes the same thing after awhile.

I retired from FFXI after playing for roughly 2 years, and well like most ppl theres just something about it that still brings me back to it. I tried playing WoW for awhile but its just so boring. no missions with the great story lines just questing and dungeons until the end.. I also tried going back to FFXI for like a week or two couldnt get back into it since most of my ls mates stopped playing.

Im pumped for this FFXIV game cant wait for it to come out hoping of course that it will have the same effect that FFXI once had over me.

I played from the first week of NA release and quit and came back back 4-5 times. Its been 2 years since my last logon but I think about ffxi literally every day (the music from the gardens area atop jeuno is my alarm clock music lol) and I cant wait for ffxiv to bring me back to mmorpgs. I really hope they dont dumb the game down too much. I liked the difficulty and feeling of accomplishment when finishing almost anything. And rdm better still kick **** lol

Fellow XI retiree, here. Representing Asura as the Ex-Master Lady Thf/Nin Liteguard. Ok, I never got to 75 but I was pretty **** beastly. Anyway, I was there at the beginning of the ps2 era and finally quit in '06. I left mainly because of college and people became too strict with party structure. And that damned 2hr lfp + falling asleep + getting invite while sleeping scenario ****** me off more than I care to remember. But all-in-all, I think it was losing touch with most of my friends that killed it (shoutout to Arouz, Niloc, and Tigralia!) But with XIV I'm sure we'll all hook back up on the same server. So here's to XIV hopefully not holding any job prejudice, having instant, no-wait adventures and thf-(or ppl with high agi/dex and the ability to steal)-love all around!

I played ffxi For 3 years...I got all the way to the top....75 rdm/nin did the whole end game thing. and then just stopped....don't know why, still loved the game, hadn't finished at all...shoot aht urhgan had just come out...went back to try to play again a year later but something was missing...It was the people...all those people you meet in the beginning...the ones that had to communicate constantly with each other to figure it all out (before you could just search allakhazam or somepage)they were gone. I hope to make those same Bonds in FFXIV...I also hope we can change the color of our moogle like we can our chocobos...is that asking to much >.>?

FFXIV looks pretty cool so far, and from other mmo's ive seen/played .. nothing ever touched ffxi in my opinion... not even close, so I have 100% confidence its gonna be amazing.
