So based on the 4Gamer thread translation, they are planning on having the max server population to be around 5k to 6k.

Based on this graph for my server population on FFXI, that is a considerable amount higher. (If anyone has any numbers of their own server population, it would be good info to see)

And not only that, they also seem to be attempting to make 14 more solo friendly.

How do you think they'll handle the "excess" of solo players? Larger "zones"? More mobs in a "zone"? Instanced things?

[EDIT] I take this
Quote:
- Server max population will be 5- 6000 players.

as meaning 5-6k people on at once, not the number of max characters stored on the server.

You know what I’m thinking what exactly do they mean with solo?
If we compare to WoW solo is only available on no elite mobs out in the world.
Those mobs yields very little xp for grouping, and thus forces the groups to do instance based dungeons instead. Is this how FF14 will be?

I was actually wondering about this for the opposite reason. I'm pretty sure that number is much lower than what FFXI has been.

That Carbuncle graph shows the trend in players online, but only about 1/3 of the population will ever be online at the same time. As I recall, at its peak FFXI saw about 4,000-5,500 players online at once per server with a total population of about 15,000.

Are they talking about average active users, or max population in that interview? It sounds like max population, but you can never be sure when you're dealing with translated material.

So maybe they are trying to make the servers less crowded? Isn't average FFXI server around 13-15k max population?

Well I took 5k-6k as the # of players on at once, not the # of characters stored on the server.

I wouldn't see any reason to announce the planned # of chars stored on the server. # of chars online at once would make more sense to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 6k the current cap on FFXI's servers; i.e why it crashed at 6k+ and forced them to take measures against it.

I have a feeling we get region based servers.
Much easier to control server population to be honest.

We already know it's not going to be region based servers...

MAX (!) 5-6k. That is very similar to the populations on the FF11 servers.

I don't think 5-6k means max at a given time. It'd be a bit stupid to allow 15k players to have characters on a server, then only allow 5-6k on at a time. Oh wait, isn't this what Blizzard did? I'm sure I heard something about wait times to get on servers due to overpopulation at one time or another.

Although, I'm no statistician, especially with regards to MMOs, so I really have no idea what % of people play each day.

Final Fantasy XIV will have a number of Worlds/Servers, and they are aiming for a capacity of 5,000-6,000 simultaneous connections

So what I figured was correct.
