That BLM spell in the trailer-- Ultima?Follow

Ultima was presented as a bubble of energy in FFVII (I can't recall off the top of my head how it physically appears in some of the others) and it was a powerful AoE. Was that an attempt to get long time FF players excited about the inclusion of the popular "ultimate" spell?

Look closer and you'll see it's a shield spell. It deflects the monsters that are coming after the two players hiding inside.

I actually think that's a more interesting feature than another old attack spell.

I think in the trailer that particular spell looks more like a barrier or shield than anything else. Someone mentioned that it seemed to be repelling the monsters away from it. And now watching the trailer once more it really does seem to look like more of a sustained barrier type of thing. Good thought though, I like it, and definitely wouldn't mind seeing ultima in this game. Smiley: grin

I assumed this was the spellcasting animation, but in this case, there is no cast time, and you become temporarily invincible.

Which leads me to believe, maybe just maybe, leviathan was actually a summon CS, like the old style FFs.

Hmm, interesting idea. Maybe it works like FFX or XII, where the summoner disappears and controls the summon directly. Except instead of disappearing, she hides behind a shield.

It looks pretty big for that, though -- it definitely seems to be sized for a party, and there's another guy in there with her.

Oh god, if summon cutscenes were annoying in VIII I don't even want to think about watching them every couple minutes for 4 years.

On the bright side, you'll never have to tell your party "afk bio" or such, ever again. If you need to eat dinner, just summon Knights of the Round.

for some reason, that giant fish reminded me of the installation pictures of FFXI. the big red fish attacking a boat with the mithra holding a taru down by its mouth as bait. since it looks soo much like ffxi already... who knows... they might add some of the concept arts that never made it into ffxi~

I believe they said in one of the interviews that the "bubble" thingie will be an important gameplay feature. It might even not be a spell at all >>;

In that case, I could see it be a radial targeting for a spell centered around the casting. Anything within would wind up receiving the effect or be a valid target of the actual range. Only other thing I can think of is a shield.

that was a shield indeed.

about summons, it would be great if they are ******* **** big (not tiny versions like in FFXI) and it's summoner could sit on them
