Different Chocobo IdeasFollow

In the latest interview, I read that the developers weren't sure how to utilize chocobos in a new and different way for FFXIV. What would you want to see chocobos utilized as in the game?

For me, I think it would be interesting if you started the game with a chocobo egg, or got one during the first round of initial quests. Then use the chocobo raising stuff from XI, but with more polish and interactivity. In connection to the weapon rumors going around, your chocobo would gain skills or attributes as you use it, until it gets to a point where it can be ridden. Once you've raised a chocobo, it's yours, no whistles, no paying, just yours to ride or use as you wish.

You could even add an advanced version of chocobo breeding and racing to the game. With a lot of polish and new ideas, those things could become really interesting casual pastimes. If Squenix decides to give players their own shops as well, you could even sell other players chocobos that you breed.

There's a lot of interesting things they can do with chocobos this time around. This isn't nearly as important as the battle system, character growth, or any number of different things, but I thought it would be interesting for the community to think and talk about. :D

I would like to see chocobos used as mounts, both for travel and for battle. Then you could expand on current event offerings, such as medieval jousting tournaments, boss fights in a high speed chase (like FFVII highway minigame) etc

That would also give you a pet to develop, equip and skill up. Your chocobo could be utility-based (faster riding, longer endurance), merchant based (carry more items like a temporary mule, or better digging capabilities) or war steed (higher defence, vitality).

Another interesting idea would be to use a similar system to a game called "FLYFF", where pets don't actually fight but provide bonus stats based on the type of pet.

Also, giving chocobos limited ability to jump, fly and glide would make it such that chocobo riding would allow you unique access to areas that cannot be accessed by other methods (i.e. by foot).

The part about carrying items is what I thought about. On some site I read their latest Q&A thinger (maybe IGN, idk), and it said they were looking to use chocobos differently or something to that effect? Anyways, I instantly thought of all the trouble people have muling...... enter chocobo aka: pack mules. Its like a moghouse on feet. So you are in the field and busy, but need to change jobs/armor/weapons? Chocobo whistle for your pack mule and it comes a runnin to ya. I'd rather ride and/or battle with them, but whatever.

I vote that we all get these little red and white balls with the Chocobo inside, and once we've leveled up our chocobo enough we can take it outside, press the button, and shout, "I choose you, Chocobo!" And then candy comes out.

I believe they'll end up being used for mounts AND portable storage. In the trailer, you can clearly see a saddle on the chocobo, but you also see a bow and arrow (for weapon change?) and some other misc. equipment in packs on the back. I wouldn't be surprised if they were use to compliment you in battle for maybe solo play or something, like how they could be used to fight in ff tactics.

I like the idea of a mobile Mog house but I don't think that SE wouldn't have already thought of this.

Anyway moving on lets set the scene, first picture a landscape as or grander then the ones seen in shadow of the colossus full of lush vegetation, long tall grass a mighty river cutting and winding its way through the landscape. All nice and peaceful like ahh isn't that nice..... theres a rumble.... the ground begins to shake..... a herd of stampeding wild chocobo are heading right for you best get out of the way quick!

This is how we should obtain our chocobo in my opinion having to capture them from the marauding herds of chocobo through out the lands, maybe different types on each continents. As for raising your own Chocobo you should have to go to the chocobo nesting grounds to obtain eggs which should involve either being very sneaky of figthing the parents for the eggs.

As for uses for the chocobo we should definitely be able to fight on them and be able to customize our chocobo's by equiping them with armour. When fighting on a chocobo it should allow us the option to use abilities we wouldn't normally get but at the same time lock out others to give us a reason to dismount. I would also like to see traders traveling accross the land in chocobo pulled carts/carrages with up to 6 depending on the size, maybe even some kind of pay for transport system for us to use when we need to travel long distances.
I also think it could be nice to have chocobo chariot/sled (for snowy areas) racing as well as the normal single chocobo with jockey races.

Please Please Please keep Chocobo raising/ranching. Make it a craft even. This was one of the funniest things even done in a MMO to get a mount. It made your mount personal to the only person it matters, you.

I'd like to have your own personal Chocobo which you can raise. I think that if they improve upon the world interaction, things like mountain climbing chocobos, and even flying chocobos would be possible, but it'd have to be carefully considered. Honestly, I miss the days of a full world map in FF games, and being able to fly around the world. Bringing this back in an a way, in an MMO, would be a dream.

On a more practical, and plausible level though, I do like the storage idea. Similar to the mog satchel, but a bit more limited, and that would be a good way to introduce extra storage early on for the sake of less needed items, or farming, without having the space to be able to worry about full sets of equip changes and situational gear.

If SE intend to pander more to Western tastes with FFXIV then you can look forward to the new mini-game 'Pimp My Chocobo'.

Players can use gil to tune up their bird, give it decals, go-faster stripes, a big tail fin, underbelly lighting and hydraulic legs.

Higher level players will be able to fit their chocos with a turbo boost button (providing they have crafted the right food first).

Awesome ideas on this thread (salutes). I totally like the idea of starting the game from the onset with your own egg (or sometime early in the game) and make it evolve not only into a mount (for travel and battle) but also an "inventory mule". Literally.

Visually, something like this: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/topics/fanart2009/imgs/im003.jpg (taken from the 7th Anniversary Fan Art Contest).

Maybe the Chocobo could also be used to crossing deep rivers, steep ravines etc... possibilities are seriously open at this point.

i think itd be neat to combine all the ideas in here in some way

riding: still rentable, however they are not YOUR choco and will not effect anything that would be effected by a personal bo. you can rent at any level <so everyone can rid e abo from the start...but it costs money so newbs will still be limited in this aspect, and obv you want a persoanl bo asap> that should make transportationa bit easier. at a certain level <or you get an egg right away and it hatches whenever. i also like the idea of it being a craft> you can do a quest <or just raise it from the egg you got at the beginning> to ge t apersonal chocobo. after that you can breed them and customize them and can even get special colored chocobo's <like in VII...and possibly others but thats the only one i remember them being in> that can do different things. green choco can climb mountains <though this will be somewhat limited>, blue can walk on water <again limited>, black can jump and glide, gold can do all of the above <same limits though> and run a small% faster. colored choco's will be much harder to get...and their genes are recessive so getting the gold <which would require heavy breeding> is uber difficult, getting any is difficult actually. if it is like a craft then think of it like this

-basic bo<default stats>,power bo,speed bo, endurance bo are NQ
-perfect normal bo <max stats> is +1
-green,blue,black is +2 <they have auto max stats btw>
-gold is +3

and just getting the perfect normal bo takes fairly high level skill making gold bo like 1/1000 even at max craft level

though the abilities for the special bo's are limited, they open up a lot of special areas that were previously unattainable

fighting: create the job "chocobo knight". how it works is this. when you change your jobs your stats change, any off level or off job armor is immediately unequipped, etc...when you change to and from chocobo knight you have a chocobo appear/dissapear. and your ALWAYS riding it as a Cknight, there is no dismount. its part of the job <like how if you switch from WHM to WAR your MO oes away because not having MP is part of being WAR> and if you have a personal bo, its stats directly effect your stats as a knight <basically the steed your riding IS your personal bo...only you dying or deleveling or whatever has no effect on your persoanl bo> or maybe even you HAVE to have a personal bo to become a knight. if you have a special colored bo, the chocobo you ride as a Cknight will not look different but will attain their abilities <if you have more than one persoanl bo, you must assign one to be your main bo...that will be the bo the Cknight uses>

mule: like you assign one bo as your main, you assign one to be a mule. the mule cannot be your main. it can hold items for you, and gil, and can be used to deliver things for you to other players <though they still have physical limitations...if they are over seas and you dotn have a ble/gold choco as your mule, you cant send to them> im not sure whether to make them be able to change your job or not, though i do wish there was away to do it on the field...we cant have choco's totally replacing moogles now can we lol

if it worked something like this, i think thatd be awesome

It might be kind of cool to use your choco as a kind of Adventuring fellow only it uses choco spells/abilities(like they did in tactics and boko did in ff8 when summoned i think) rather than the same things you do. Possibly with a far better interactive system between you and it. Actually being able to give it commands and stuff would be a nice touch to solo play. It would also make the breed of your choco and how you raised it bear much more significance and if there were no charges on the whistle this would make your choco your ultimate companion.

You ... you do realize that trailers use amped up graphics to make them more appealing to those who are easily influenced by pretty pictures, right? The same with movies. They show you the awesome bits that they know will catch your attention, and then you go in and you realize that minute of clips doesn't save the hour and a half of movie.

Something that crossed my mind looking at that last scene of the trailer which the chocobo was what if they make a job that has a pet chocobo, Chocobo Breeder or something. They can use their chocobos as pack mules where they store the equipment for the rest of the party, and the party members can access it whenever they need to. They would have abilities that would support the group like regen and refresh type spells. Who knows maybe they could also breed chocobos and give eggs to other players so that they could have their own chocobos, except those would be exclusivly for riding, where the chocobo trainer's chocobo would be for riding, mass storage, group buffs and such.

i would definitely love a pet system to be included with the game, one that is your own and you grow attached to, not just send to battle and watch it die.. "oh well ill just charm another and send it to horrible death too!"
pet chocobo that grows with you would be really cute and interesting to play X3

If they carry over mog houses. Put a section in the house for your choco to grow. During the growth period the chocho Npc will "visit" your Mog house for you to interact with, when its fully grown, and finished training, ie retired, the Npc will go away.

Let the Choco stay in the mog house with you, or give us all choco plushies XD

I also like the idea of having an early quest that gives a chocobo egg and makes the chocobo raising/racing system integrated in from the beginning. With multiple types that can be raised, for racing/riding, digging, pack mule and special types for flying, climbing mountains etc. Having it also be able to fight with you in battle would be cool too.

Maybe there could also be special 'Chocobo Paths' that run through certain zones, designed specifically for doing chocobo related activities, sort of like an event, where you have to ride the chocobo in a certain manner, or defeat enemies while mounted, or maybe some sort of chocobo mini-games like the ones in Final Fantasy X in the Calm Lands.

Personally, I always thought of mounts as a sign of "relative" superiority within an MMO, but I suppose starting with one and just upgrading the **** out of it could work too.

I'm behind the Chocobo Pimping.

Well, I don't mean the joke thing up above, I mean I'd actually love it if there were more appearance options, especially if they play a larger role. Armor, or elaborate saddles, or desert-style chocobo-clothing.

But that aside.

I'll stand by the hopes for pack-chocobos. I think it'd be a lot of fun to have your chocobo following you around like a pet and carrying your things.

Hmm...tastes like chocobo: I know chocobo are quick enough to elude monsters, but what about the chocobo-eater? Every time you ride a chocobo, there's a very small chance you'll attract an eater that will chase you.

Get help!: If you blow your chocobo whistle in battle, your chocobo will appear and then run away and approach the nearest solo healer it can find. "A riderless chocobo comes to a sudden stop in front of you and seems to want to take you somewhere".

The chocobo whisperer: Some people can build such a bond with their chocobo that a communication can be built. (the chocobo will auto take you to the nearest NM in the zone)

Stated this in another Thread, could be used toward accomplishing a "Mobile Mog House" that is discussed above:

Let's bring back Tents in this Final Fantasy, maybe? You can post up at certain "Camp Ground" locations, or maybe even anywhere on the map, and hop in your Tent and handle whatever you have to handle in your Mog House that way. Still would be the possibility of aggro of course in the open world, but at a "Camp Site" there won't be. Just a random idea I've been thinking up, any ideas?
