Is anyone not all that excited that FFXIV so far looks like FFXI with better graphics and some of the flaws worked out? Having the same races/character looks again doesn't bother me too much but I'd much rather have a new game made from the ground up.

How different from FFXI do you want this new MMO to be?

It will be different thats for sure, all I care about is that the game will keep the harcore element that FFXI had.

yeah, from the info gathered so far, the only thing 11 and 14 have in common is the name "Final Fantasy"
this is gonna be a very different game.

SE: While you noticed that some of the same type of races appeared, we'd like to make it clear that these are different. The world in FFXIV is a different world than the world in FFXI. I think you saw the name of the world in the trailer, Eorzea. The reason that we made them similar to the races in FFXI was that so that the players who had been playing XI and had liked that type of character - and they had their avatar that they had been using for the past five or six years - can choose a similar type of race in this new game. As an analogy of why we did this, think of it as an actor in many different movies. In one movie, he might be an assassin robot and in another movie he'll be the saviour of Mars and in another movie he'll be a spy. But it's always the same actor, and we want you to think of him in that way.

I expect XIV to feel like a Final Fantasy game... which is hard for me to quantify.

I know I'm going in expecting a story driven MMO, that caters to a more mature, community minded crowd than *ahem* some other current MMOs out there.

But everything else seems up for grabs. And if the developers' early comments are any indication, for better or worse, this will be a very different MMO than FFXI.

I've got 5 gil on it being a blast! But I'd bet a heckuva lot more that the differences will be substantial. Just like every other new FF title in the main series, they are aiming to make XIV its own game, and not FFXI-2.

I dont wish this game Be a FFXI ver 2. i love FFXI but i wish we have something "NEW" in all aspects.

And i hope this game can give us the Feeling we are playing a Final Fantasy game and not a Simple MMRPG like PC MMRPGS are there Billions. but always is the same feeling not will say names but "Even the mmrpgs on pc have the same menu system and that is like"

Ummm iam playing the same with other name? i dont wish FFIV have this. i want this be a creative and new thing

So far the ONLY thing that's similar are the 5 races and that's because they wanted to give players a chance to 'continue' their character. I think it's brilliant. They'll most likely add to the amount of races and for the races we already have (5 originals, slightly altered), they'll give enough customizations that it doesn't look too much like FFXI.

Everything else we've heard so far is far different from XI, I don't think you have to worry.
