I'm slightly bored right now and extremely excited about FFXIV so I figured...Hey, why not start a thread where everyone can guess when the beta will start and when the game will release.

WARNING: This is pure speculation and solely intended to pass the time. Anyone who takes these things too seriously should stay away...you might have an aneurysm.

Well, I'll start it off. I'm optimistic about it all and I think SE is very far along in the game. I say they'll start the beta in September '09 with it lasting for 7 months. It will end in March '10 and the game will release the month after, April.

I'd guess a bit later.

Beta starts at Christmas '09, and the game's released in May-June of '10, maybe on the 8th Anniversary of FFXI.

If Beta will happen in 3 months, I think we will see an announcement already.

Beta : January 2010
Release: August 2010-January 2011 (at least 1 year from now)

Coddy said it best. 8 hour maintenance is highly probable lol. Wonder if there will be a 6 hour installation process. Anyways, I agree with beta in january '10 and release in october or november, probably october to coincide with ffxi release. I'm hoping it releases in June or July though since that is when i'll have the most free time. ;)

i'd speculate that beta starts in spring 2010, i'd say march - two rounds for 6 months, then a 2 week dead span - then release. i still have no clue why on earth companies release games in the fall (other than the financials which i can see as being big from the business PoV) when spring/summer can see a windfall of bored school kids at home for three months.

S-E has stated three things:

1. FFXIV Beta will last longer than FFXI's Beta.
2. FFXIV will be released after FFXIII.
3. FFXIII's estimated release is in Spring 2010.

Thus, my educated guess is this:

Beta will open up sometime in the last quarter of 2009 and will continue through the second quarter of 2010. Then beta will close and the game will be released in late third or fourth quarter 2010.

So like, August/September 2009 Beta starts. May/June 2010 beta ends. Sept/Oct 2010 FFXIV is released.

FF14's release will almost definitely be aimed for right around Thanksgiving (lots of people in stores in the US beginning their Christmas shopping).

So: release date of probably either 11/16/2010 or 11/23/2010 is my estimate (both Tuesdays). In Japan, it'll be two days earlier. In Europe, it'll be three days later, but the servers will already have been up for at least two days.

The beta will probably begin in February next year, giving nine months for the beta.

good points but i'll add another one.

4. SE has stated that they want the beta to be longer than FFXI beta(4-5 months) but shorter than WoW beta(9 months).

You have 10 months so it might be best starting the beta around November and Ending in May(perhaps FFXIII release).

Not necessarily. Most companies don't make big announcements way ahead of time about beta testing. It usually just comes out of nowhere and you have to be in a position to find out fast if you want in. Hyping a beta is bad marketing, but the beta becomes a form of marketing as well as testing in itself.

If what they've said holds true (and this is a big if) we can technically expect a beta no earlier than July '09 (no way in ****, but it fits in the window. 8 months before March '10) and no later than June '10. (6 months before December '10, the last possible month of release assuming its not delayed)

My guess? Beta starts somewhere between November and January and game comes out August-September, just in time to ***** me over for school -.-

I would say Closed Beta starts in March 2010, and will go until end of July where Open Beta will begin and last until Oct, you would have a 2 week break, and then it would release late Oct/Early Nov.

So that is about 4~5 months of Closed Beta, and 2~3 months of Open Beta, so that's 6-8 Months of total Beta testing.

That gives them enough time to do Beta and get those bugs out while they can. They will grind all summer, and start the Alpha testing this Nov all the way until Feb and work on getting Beta ready.

Hmmmm I don't think they'll be waiting too long to get on with it. Maybe something like this.

Closed Beta: September
Open Beta: January
Release: May/June of next year (Late September/Early October at the latest)

That might be a bit overly optimistic of me but keep in mind they've already been working on the game for four years so they've got to have a good chunk of it done already.

yeah but look at how much they've shown. SE is also known for delaying games like valve.

You probably have a point there, I haven't payed too much attention to the delaying of SE games. Assuming that they are actually on schedule and 2010 isn't just a load of crap, I still stick by what I predicted though. The possibility of ridiculous delays is always there though.

When it came to FFXI SE rarely had any delays - minor ones here and there, but expansions and updates came on time.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be the same in this case, it's not like SE is liek AoC or WAR which were announced way too early and had inevitable delays

I'm sure SE has had them delays as well, but because they haven't said anything about the game it doesn't matter, the consumer won't ever find out. The game is late in it's development process, so they thought now would be a good time to announce it - when the actual release date can be easily predicted.

This is actually a characteristic to the MMO dev team of SE - some other studios aren't as good with this (Last Remnant anyone?)

It is obviously not gonna be released within the quarter that 13 is released because then it would take the anticipation hype and potential sales from 13. My prediction goes with beta some where between the first and seconde quarter of 2010 and then potential release late in the fourth quarter around nov, dec. To capatilize on the the holiday season or at latest jan/feb.

Remember, SE said it would come out after FF13, so I'm assuming this includes in the EU, where we barely have a 2010 release secured right now for 13.

My guess would be TGS/SE Party will give us alot of info to go on, including a Jan closed Beta info.

Around March they will start giving info on Beta testing, most likely via a magazine.

This time next year I'd suspect Microsoft will have snagged the game, just in time for the beta.

PS3 and PC Beta will begin shortly after, and 360 about a month after that,(this is assuming that porting is as easy as they say it is via crystal tools)

I'm assuming in the EU they'll aim for a Summer release if possible for the big money, so around august FF13's rollout will be complete.

Around the end of October, Windows 7 will have had a full year at retail, hoping adoption rate is high, this will make for a good time to launch.

Windows version could be available via Steam or D2D and also plain old DVD, however I reckon it's gonna need about 3-4 DL-DVDs. let's say Oct. 22nd (worldwide)
PS3 version, by then the PSN may have started to offer full games to download. On the other hand, I can't think of anyone WILLING to wait for a 50GB download unless they have at least 20Meg connection lol. And obviously Blu-Ray option is there. Oct. 22nd
(If there is one) Xbox 360 version, will most likely come with a 60GB HDD Minimum requirement. Will ship on 3-4 DL-DVDs and have a mandatory install. Oct. 29th I think?

I think they're likely to miss the demand quota in the UK too, they have done this with every expansion so far, leaving most shops without any copies for a few days.

Meanwhile....

Around January, the teaser site will switch to a full website detailing info just as the current Playonline.com does.
Likewise the Square Enix account system will see a huge rehaul, as such I think they might even do this to add aditional payment options for FFXI (i.e the mentioned 30 day credit method)

This may seem irrelivant, but meh...I could see SE releasing their crystal tools engine to other developers for profit, that is if the game is successful during beta (mechanics wise).

I think they will emphasise FFXIs presence by keeping the game quiet around it's anniversary in May.

As with FFXI's beta they will probably allow people to transfer into the real servers for no extra charge.

Maybe like this...

Sept: Closed beta starts. SE trains new GMs and testers how to handle situations in the game by telling them to direct players all over the place.

Oct: Because whatever interface they are using it takes a month to update the server and games, they actually start testing now.

Dec: They get an error like POL - Matrix: There is no FFXIV and take a lot of time fixing it.

Jan: Somehow Open beta starts.

Feb: By this time gil sellers infiltrate the system and a less then careful GM is compromised.

March: SE panics and changes around the GM structure and everything else really, pushing everything back.

May: Everything is finally back on track. Any C level problems they can get to are taken care of.

June: The game is released for summer.

If you go by the JP version of FF13 then that game is released in Japan Nov-2009. The problem with FF14 is that it’s a simultaneous release worldwide so for example if it is released in Japan April 2010, you will have it released in US and EU at the same day as well.

Closed Beta beginning very late this year or early next year. Maybe sometime between November '09 and January '10.

Closed beta lasting at least 2 months.

Open beta beginning early spring '10.

Lasting at least 5 months.

Retail version leaked early September.

Game hits the shelves in, at the earliest, late September or early October 2010...assuming no major setbacks.

It would be pretty upsetting if people could transfer their beta characters to the live version of the game. That gives people the edge for no reason. I guess it doesn't matter too much, but some of that feeling of "wow, I wonder if anyone else has this yet" is gone, as you're starting knowing that someone else started months before you. An alternative would be to allow all the beta players who wanted to keep their characters to migrate *only* to specific servers. Then, when everyone else gets in, they know which servers have these players and which don't.

I also think this is a bad idea unless everyone gets to opportunity to participate in the open beta.

I guess it depends who gets access to which stages of staging. But I think all characters, except GMs, should get their characters whiped before the game begins.
Beta stages are really for testing purposes and players who participate should be doing so to help test the game...not to have a higher level (if there are levels in this game) character than everyone else.

I kind of like the idea of transferring your character to the Live server that you Beta Tested with. I mean, how many months will you be going through Beta, "leveling", playing the game...to have to start from scratch when it's all said and done?

I guess it would be cool to start from scratch already knowing some stuff, but who cares if 5,000 players are already ahead of you when the game launches? Play at your own pace..

And if there isn't going to be a leveling system why are you worried? ::shrug::
