Will FFXIV have official forums?Follow

I can't help but wonder if they learned from FFXI that essentially forcing people to visit third party websites to communicate with the community, or look up quest/crafting information is a bad idea? Hopefully they turned finalfantasyxiv.com into the official website that has forums and maybe a wiki for the playerbase to use.

I would also much prefer to have most information avaliable in game, than have to rely on a website to get a quest done or craft an item or figure out what stats this piece of food gives me.

Agreed. Every other paid mmo out there has official forums. Many of them before the game goes live.
And they shoudl stop deleting characters. Ive desubbed from Age of Conan, EvE, WOW, Coh, none of them deleted my account info... Only FFXI did that.

No idea, but I really hope they do. There's pretty much no good reason not to have official forums.

Of course they will! The game was just announced, so just be patient while Pikko and the powers that be get everything in order. ^^v

He's referring to a forum maintained by SE, not the alla forums

No signs point out to FFXIV having an official forum. Of course there is a chance, but it isn't likely.

They always do a good job here, and this site has always been reliable and safe. However, I was referring to official forums run by SE.

We saw what happened when Somepage was having issues and a lot people lost their account. All that could be avoided (at least on such a huge scale) if they provided:

1) Most of the information in the game needed to complete quests, crafting etc.
2) Had official forums for brain storming, talking with devs, dicussing patch notes etc.
3) Had an official site with information and maybe an official wiki.

The only problem that I can see from it is there's less need for sites like Alla, (lolZam) or whatever I'm supposed to call it now. :P

Currently, I have a lifetime subscription with LoTRO and the information in game and on their wiki/forums, means I never have to visit a third party site for any reason what so ever. Which means I'm less likely to run into situations like what happened with Somepage for FFXI.

Question is, how do they dodge the bullet on cross nation boards? They can't full well intergrate the autotranslate function into it can they?

It would be pretty contradictory of them to segregate the English, Japanese, German and French in a game that is supposed to support cross culture

I hope so, but I'm not counting on it. So what if they have seperate forums for different regions? It's not THAt big a deal. They should have them so players can provide feedback and such. WoW has lot of different forums. Of cours,e Blizzard also talks with it's players more than SE does, who like to keep you in the dark, for better or worse.

Hmm, but is it that bad to seperate communities outside of the game based on the language they speak? LoTRO has lotro.com and lotro-europle.com for example and nobody really complains about them being seperated. However, they do have their servers seperated like that as well.

When you think about how it can help avoid things, like what happened with somepage, I don't see how it could really be all that bad.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if SE decided to call Zam the official FFXIV forums.

I like official forums. They tend to draw the worst of the worst away from Allakhazam.

I doubt they'll have official forums and instead have official community like FFXI is using right now. But they do need to focus more on community relation if they do that.

Forums...maybe. If not forums, hopefully a more responsive option for customer feedback. I seriously, seriously doubt that they'd maintain a wiki or database for quest details and the like. SE has a track record of being tight lipped and cryptic with information like that, preferring to let players find out for themselves and compile the information on third party sites. I hope that SE is a bit more transparent with in-game quest descriptions and atributes, but I'm not expecting them to go live with a complete database detailing the quests, where to get them, what to do, and what (if any) rewards might be offered for doing them.

Allegory hit the nail on the head though...official forums are good for keeping the scrubs away.

Since they don't have region based servers I highly doubt there will be official forums as it is harder to maintain.
If you get forums for certain languages would you make a new office somewhere in Europe where a bunch of people just sit there and answer questions all day on the forums.

It is so much easier for SE if there aren't any forums since you don't need people to maintain it simple as that.

It's so much easier because then they don't have to answer to anyone.

Other games maintain official forums despite a worldwide market. That's not an issue. The question is a) does SE realize how much of a benefit it could be and b) do they care. They need to communicate with their playerbase if they want this to work. Forums or not, if they omit that aspect of the experience they're going to pay for it in their bottom line.

They didn’t have any for FFXI, and have kept a steady player base over time. So my question is how did they pay for it in FFXI ?

Personally i hope that either they do have an official forum or at least hire a community team to actively interact with whatever forums they wish.

Either way, if they give a reasonable amount of communication and interaction with the playerbase i would be happy.

Especially when the tagline on the banner says Welcome to the new addiction. SE would never put that up as then they would be admitting that their game is like crack.

Official forums are just places for "fans" to whine about changes they want. They're unnecessary. I hope they do things similarly to FFXI from a community standpoint. Square does not need to be hearing "I demand a blue post!" and BS like that. Can you imagine the forums the day after the ranger nerf? My god. Unconstructive ******** everywhere. No thank you.
