When I started out in FFXI (it was my first mmorpg)I never got into crafting, I thought of it as a waste of time and only for people who were already rich.

By the time I realized how much gil could be made in crafting it was to late and too time consuming to start, so this time if FFXIV has a crafting system I will put the time in.

Anyone else gonna do things different in FFXIV?

I was a tank for the most time (it kept me doing stuff the whole time, DDing was a little bore unless you were a SAmurai doing skillchains with two people) this time i'm starting as a damage dealer for sure.

Yah, I also want a craft. I just never started because what made me happy was running around and leveling. I liked constantly moving and seeing new monsters but unfortunately SE rehashes monsters and gives them new names.

My goal this time is to actually be rich in some way lol. I know it sounds lame but it was so hard for me and i was always jealous of everyone else who had nice things. So in this game if i have to choose money over having fun i definately will. I'm not trying to better than anyone else. I'm not one of those ppl who give links to their armor for each of their 75 jobs just to take attention away from their weewee size. I see it as a personal goal type thing :)

I also want to stay away from mages. I'm really interested in archers so i'll pick up a bow and arrow on day one. I'm done with magic and the 'arts'. I stuck with summoner the whole game and it was nothing but the crap the whole way through. if that's how they treat their trademark job then i'll pass.

Edit: Woooooow someone did just what i talked about before i finished writing this 0_0 Woooooooow. I'm not taking it out though. XD

I'm also going to stay away from mages this time. I hope bows will actually be a weapon in this game and not a seperate, invisible "ranged weapon".

If that's the case, I will use a bow. But I'm also interested in two-handed swords.

I was not one a DDer on FFXI, always a mage be it whm, smn, blm, rdm etc XDD even bard god. I'm definitely going for whatever does the most damage from the get go, and I'll definitely take up a craft as u mentioned and make gil (for once). I'll also concentrate on 1 character instead of like 2....i probably could've taken 1 character way further if i didn't have 2 to worry about.

I gave all the jobs a chance. I have no real regrets on doing that, but I think this time I should work on taking a job as high as possible before trying out everything else, because what happens is I have a bunch of level 30 jobs while all my friends have already hit level 60 and I can't do stuff with them.

Also, crafting. I shall take full advantage of the cheap starting prices of materials so I can always have a way to profit even when the FFXIV economy goes to **** when Bush becomes president of Eorzea. Even if crafting IS just as boring and tedious as it was in FFXI. I will work my way to the top and laugh at everyone who has troubles making money! Final Fantasy Capitalism rulez! i wouldn't be surprised if the AH isnt in 14, don't you guys remember when a scorpion harness was like 14 mil? lol last time i played it was like 100k lol we maybe looking at ites being bought only at npc's.
that would also take care of rmt's.

i started ffxi out as a monk on ps2 release... i didnt hit 75 till 2007 lol this time my first job to 75 will be a tank class. plus imma get any subjobs outta the way and farm up atleast 10k from the get go.

An MMO without an auction house would be dumb. It's far too valuable a tool and removing the enormous contribution a player driven economy makes to an MMO in an attempt to combat RMT is just...ya...dumb. There are different ways to implement an auction house (or similar concept), but it shouldn't be excluded. If RMT want to get a foothold in a game, they'll find a way.

As for me, I plan on focusing on a tanking class. I was a DD my entire time in FFXI and for the first part of my time in WoW. I decided to try tanking and haven't looked back. Will be interesting to see how SE's combat mechanics impact the different traditional roles in a group, but if there's room for a "tank" type role, I'm on that like a fat kid on a smartie.

Believe it or not, I have played FFXI as a Mithra twice, once in 2004 and now currently, both times I wanted to play a Paladin Mithra cuz cats in armor are ****. Both times I was a Thief and a Corsair instead >_>; and never got around to Paladin.

I vow that when I play FFXIV I will finally be a Tankin kitty and not a Ranger >_>;;... I hope.

I am going to look at the races..ponder a bit and pick one and then stick with it and not flip flop races like I did before.

This time around i'm going to focus on just one job to begin with. When I played FFXI I could never decide on 1 job to stick with so I ended up getting them all in their mid-30's which was good because I always had subjobs to choose from but it took me a while before I finally got a 75. Also i'm going to definatly take up crafting, something I always regretted not getting into earlier.

This time I will enjoy the game more. I will take my time to explore, craft, try new things. I don't want to get caught up in the rat race, I want to have fun, not level a job because my guild/party/etc needs one, but because I want to.

I plan on the playing this game for a long time (hopefully) and I want to enjoy it all.

Same as Faith (I actually remember you from Valefor). I mostly did melee DD in XI. I plan to go mage this time around. And rich crafter.

I wanna play the missions/story quests from the start, so it is easier to find other people who need to do them too.

This time around, I am going to make sure I don't get hooked to playing all day long and such. I want my wife/family to have WAY more time with me than a game will. I'm REALLY glad SE has decided to consider the "casual" players with this next MMORPG, I may even get my wife to play video games with me again.

I hope SE has made a way for the game economy to be sound in FFXIV. The way the economy has gone in XI is sad.

I had a problem with what I call job A.D.D I loved them all and bounced back and forth but my favorites where THF, NIN, SAM. I pretty much covered all my bases as a Tank, DD, and puller, hate control. They all were big rolls in a party and for the most part IMO one of the faster paced Jobs in the game (excluding Sam till later lvls) So I will definitely be Either a Tank or some other vital job that keeps busy. I will also be crafting right out of the gate and wont stop till I cap.

I totally agree with staying away from mage classes, at least until i've tinkered a lot with melee DD or even a tanking class. I am always and forever a RDM to any event in FFXI.

I will stay the same in my 'nosiness'. I loved exploring all the nooks and crannies in XI.

Hmm.... what to do different.... Well I guess not stopping to play other MMO's on the side. Also definitely going to get into a craft other than cooking. But yeah I plan on playing a DD job. DD all the way.

as its been said a billion times already, the time i realized how useful it is...i just didnt have the time

it was an endless cycle of pain

to level up with decent gear i needed money

to get money i needed to craft

to craft a decent profit i had to get materials

to get materials i either had to buy it,meaning i needed money, or farm it <getting it off a monster, lumberjacking, mining whatever.> so i had to level to not die in the higher level places to attain some of the stuff, and to if i went the farming rout the circle started over at me not being able to level without money. if i went the buying road it started again with me not being able to get money without crafting nor crafting without money

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr >_<

this time i'll do what others have said...take advantage of starting prices being so dang cheap and craft asap...if their available im quite partial to woodworking, smithing, and cooking

while i agree the AU shouldnt go away, i think it needs adrastic change. A full blown player driven econ just wont work when there are many younger people who are good at games but dont understand economy

ignorance and jackasses are the reasons XI's econ is so bad. while the player being involved is alright, a full blown player driven econ is bad for anygame that you can expect a fair amount of juvenial involvement in. FFXIV needs to be a fair amount more NPC driven. right now its like 90+% player driven in XI. ide like that to be lowered down to 60% player 40%NPC <or even have the NPC get the higher %> and/or have SE make crafting more appealing. when theres only so many high level crafters, prices get pretty insane. they need to amke the game much more user friendly

but im going on a tangent now lol sorry

i would

craft more and quest more <i only ever remember doing transportation and job quests in XI...>this time around ide like to do some more questing <hopefully, like with what i hope they do with crafting, they make questing more appealing and important>

dont think i'll change the way i do my jobs, ima tank first, DD next mage last.

im also going tobe more disciplined. you have no idea howmany times i would log in and spend a couple hours just talking to my LS XD. a whole day of getting 0 accomplished. im too **** social for my own good >_<. im really gonna try and buckle down and craft, quest, and level <im not gonna be ANTI social, just a bit less social and not waste the $ im spending a month of it>
