Crystal Uses?Follow

In one of the interviewa it metions that crystals will make an appearance but they will be used in a different way. Im thinking that they will be used as a weapon.

If say you want to learn black or white magic you have to use that crystal as your wepons, the more used the higher tiers of magic it unlocks. Also they could use this as part of a shattered avatar (esper). It would be innovative if they allowed you to merge with the crystal fragment to become the avatar of the crystal.

This would help make them a jack of all trades.....need a tank summon and become titan or dps ifrit or buffs (someone new). They could always give them abitlities (hate to say it, but kinda like druids from WOW) that each form would grant. Nothing to powerful to take away from the main roles that people will play.

Just my thoughts on the new crystal uses.

Kind of a stupid idea, but I approve of new uses for the crystals.

Using them to craft is so not epic.

im gonna have to go with the idea of crystals affecting the use of weapons. instead of crystals being consumables, i think they'll be permanent items. Crystals could be combined with weapons to increase certain effects. For example: a sword has a certain amount of slots for crystals, and each crystal has different properties. Fire crystal would be a class of crystals. A type of crystal within the fire class crystals could be named "+strength" and can be attached to a sword, which yields additional strength for the warrior. possibly a different type of fire crystal named "+effect: fire" could yield an additional effect of fire when attacking with the sword. on the other hand, a fire crystal attached to a staff could increase the mages fire abilities... maybe combining different crystals together on a weapon can give secret effects. This is sort of like the idea of materia from ffvii, but instead of materia, it'll be crystals. Hahahaha i'm just daydreaming :)

yeah itll add more diversity on weapons.. weapons can have affects already on it and also have slots for crystals. for example: a bow could have DMG:50, Delay: 500, Ranged attack+10, Ranged accuracy+10 and 4 slots for crystals. a completely different bow would have DMG:50, delay:500 and 10 crystal slots. and another completely different bow could have DMG: 60, Delay: 480 and NO slots. i think this will diversify weapons and add to customization of your character and weapons. this could also add to the IMPORTANCE of weapons. Maybe they'll have different crystals for different types of game play. like equip crystals that enhance solo battles, or crystals that help with crowd control, crystals to accommodate certain party structures. HOT idea right?

I can just see how crystal-provided en-spell can make a big difference. That fire bow may pwn those snow-hares, but it wont be so hot (oh the pun) against a bomb.

Crystals being used as weapon augmentations? Meh

I like them better as crafting tools because of the neat animation when you start crafting things. That doesn't mean I wouldn't be up for a completely different use for the crystals but weapon augmentation has already been done to death in other games.

seriously, i think crystal may be something like ffcc, look at the ffxi site all theses peoples gathered in one place, they seems like adventurers resting, and what can we find there ?
large pieces of crystal embeded in the room(on the center of where the screen stops scrolling)
in a way that seems more like a shrine that a device or something else to me...

also, the monsters... they seems like creatures from nightmares, things that doesn't normaly exists... the kind of things you find in places that have an "unholy" feel to it

The FFCC idea would actually not surprise me. Crystals could very well be used to create that "barrier"-like thing in the trailer.

And on the subject of that, I think it could be used to have a safe place to rest. Kind of like the "tent" item.

Yeah, I'm just throwing out ideas.

Perhaps crystals are the answer to magic what weapons would be as far as progression goes. For example, a fire crystal constantly being used opens up the potential for greater fire magic, etc. Perhaps even after a while, Ifrit (or belias or whatever fire elemental avatar they pick) may be awakened deep inside. Maybe sleeping espers in crystals is too FFXI, but I imagine they'd be like Materia/runes that you don't attach to weapons. As you can see in the teaser artwork, all the crystals are in bandoliers (assuming that those are actually crystals and not vials).

You should definately check out the post called "Gear System Ideas". A system involving a rather deep use of Materia and crystals is described. It definately caught my eye; the system would work perfectly in the story of a FF game and it would solve the issue of crystals only being used for crafting.

Something I noted that might fit here, if you look at the scrolling picture with everyone seated, on the far right you'll see two bandeliers, one with what looks like throwing knives in the sheafs and the other...well...those sure look like crystals to me.
