Linkshell 2.0 Guild and Guild HallFollow

FFXIV should get a revamped linkshell. It needs to be more like a guild and less like a chatroom. We need ranks, emblem, and what I consider most important, a LS Hall. Some of you that might have played Guild Wars will know it for its amazing guild options. In Guild Wars each Guild would have a cape with their emblem and their own island where their guild hall was situated. There were several flavors available to choose from and all were a sight to behold. LS Halls will basically be a upgrade from the standard Invite your party to your Mog House to entering a LS only area where people from the LS could meet up. The LS Hall could be easily accessible from any city preferably from the Mog House district or whatever they have in store.

LS recommended features
-LS Emblem - Visible on character if possible or in character name instead of a regular pearl color like Ragnarok Online.
-LS Bank - You could apply taxes and keep the bank on the LS instead of having a trustworth mule who keeps money.
-LS Ranks
-LS Points
-LS Hall

Please add your suggestions and discuss what do you think would make a great evolution of the LS for FFXIV and the LS Hall inspired by the Guild Wars Guild Hall.

One of the most baffling things for me when I moved from EQ to FFXI was the lack of group identification. In every other MMO I've played, your guild/linkshell name would appear under your name. Instead, we were given a colored "pearl" next to our name so that people can guess. Either that or you were forced to inspect people, which we soon found out was rude. I've never understood it, especially since there are so many other things to overlap the pearl.

I certainly hope they put the name above the character and PLEASE OMG allow spaces into the name. That is another thing that drives me mad.

The bank idea sounds good, but I'm not really big on the emblem or hall ideas. I don't think the simplicity of different colored linkpearls ever ruined the gameplay of FFXI for anyone. In fact, that sounds like it'd just be a copy of Ragnarok Online and Guild Wars, both of which I was never a fan of, and did give a chance to. Also, the guild hall sounds too much like Age of Conan, and I for one thought the guilds would've been better in that game if they focused less on the guild hall. Let SE do things the SE way, not the Guild Wars way or any other game.

The whole concept of the Link Shell was just to be a MMO Chat room. FFXI wanted to avoid Guilds, so I assume the system will not change much if it retains the "Link Shell" format. There is a reason you were allowed to have multiple pearls. It's like having a Shell for movie lovers so you can talk about movies, a Shell for Males Ages 18-24 so you can talk with peers, and a Shell for people living in Chile for people in the Andes region. Shells were designed for people who share multiple interests. Considering End Game content, BCNM content, and Static Partys are all possible similar interest, as is communicating with like minded individuals, the Shell system is doing it's job.

If you are talking about making a "Guild System," the format would have to change significantly, including more than likely making it so that you can only belong to one.

Love ya, Pikko, but imagine Whitegate or Jeuno with everyone's name AND ls name displayed. It'd be so much more cluttered than it already is. I for one didn't mind it being hidden. The name of people's linkshells just wasn't an issue for me.

Eh. I disagree. I actually like that FFXI doesn't have your Guild (Linkshell) right under/above your name like in every other MMORPG.

I feel like it distracts from my character name and makes me feel especially bound to said Guild (Linkshell).

Edit: Not to mention it's messy-looking and makes things more cluttered, as stated above. :<

If they wanted to get real fancy, they could make linkshell (and maybe even character name) turn on/off-able.

I liked the fact that you could have a ton of linkshells and interact with a ton of people but at the same time, as Pikko said, having it like that doesn't engender any type of group unity. A lot of people have linkshells just for sea or dynamis or whatever else and often times they hate everyone in the linkshell being there simply to get gear and it's the system that creates the problem. A lot of people are going to join that LS for their own personal gain and so they'll treat everyone else like trash because they don't really care about them. It's like a den of thieves really.

I'm a fan of the linkshell system...

However, my one major problem with them was the fact that they took up inventory space. I'd be more at ease if there was a special linkshell menu where you could select from the various groups you had been invited to.

People join guilds for their own personal gain in any MMORPG where a group's strength really matters.
I don't think that really has anything to do with having multiple Linkshells.
It's called greed.

I'd like to be a guild system, with a hall, bank, and all the other trappings for your main group, as well as some kind of separate chat system to stay in contact with your friends. It doesn't have to be an equippable linkshell-like item, it could just be a way to set up private chat channels.

I would much rather they polish up incredible game play, balanced jobs, and a massive story with thousands of cut-scenes before they work on a "Guild" system. Some of the best Guild Systems in MMO's have been the simplest in my opinion, but I really like the option of having multiple Pearls so that I can switch to a different shell if I log in and find my current shell is empty, or if I want to invite people from different shells to a single event (I used to do this for Avatar Prime fights) and I act as the intermediary.

I actually prefer having multiple pearls and being able to switch between them when I needed to. This also helps when finding parties because you can ask in all of the pearls that you own. Instead of being stuck with only 1 group, being able to change for different days was always a good thing in my opinion.

Something I always wished they had in FFXI was a shared linkshell inventory. Something in the "guild hall" where you could dump, say, your low-level gear when you're done with it so that other members of the shell could use it. The shell might make a point of keeping sets of gear for a bunch of different jobs and level ranges so that when people needed it they wouldn't have to go buy it themselves only to have to sell it three days later.

Ideally it would keep a record of who put the gear there in the first place and who has it "checked out."

Of course, this might be a much smaller issue in the new game, but I'm sure it would be a good idea regardless.
