Suggestions of good games to play, outside of the Final Fantasy series, that could satisfy me the way that FFXI did, until I can play FFXIV?

I really want to play a game... I've tried all the main MMOs (LOTRO, Age of Conan, WoW, etc.) and each one I quit in a short time because it was extremely unsatisfying.

I just want something to entertain me that's satisfying and I can play for a while.

Help meh?

I'm in the exact same boat as you, hahaha. It sucks I need something to occupy my extra time. If you end up finding a game let me know maybe I'll start one up with you if its a good one.

Are you specifically looking for another mmo or...? I'm definitely pumped for this game and would love something to bide my time with. I'm looking forward to some Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP being released soon, to satisfy my adventuring needs. I'm contemplating going back to FFXI, but I'm not sure...

I do was contemplating going back to FFXI, but that would require me to start all over again, and I'm not sure how much fun that would be hahaha. Alone at least.

Once I finish what I'm playing now, FFVIII and Chrono Trigger are up to bat. List of games I'm trying to get around to is a long list.

If you are looking for MMOs, try some free ones. That way you can save your money for any PC upgrades or PS3 hard drive purchases you might want to make before FFXIV. I used to write a column about F2P MMOs, trying to pick out the good ones from all of the trash.

If you are thinking more along the lines of a standard RPG, maybe you could tell us what platforms you have at your disposal. I recently finished Suikoden Tierkreis on the DS, and I am replaying some of my favorite classics on the PS3 via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

I've thought about returning to XI as well, but that really wouldn't be best for me or my family just yet. I'd get too involved and **** off my wife, or not accomplish enough to keep me feeling happy. I've given some thoughts to LotRO again as I never got to cap before leaving, and it's a beautiful world with more story and a more mature community than any MMO I've come across, outside of XI.

Unless I feel I HAVE to jump in a MMO though, I plan to just Playstation out. The PS2 alone has enough RPGs on it that I'll never ever play all that I'd like to...

If you're thinking about F2P MMOs my favorite is Runes of Magic. It has a lot of different features that I have always thought should be put together, including a job system similar to FFXI...though it only has six classes(knight, priest, mage, scout, rogue, warrior). It's not the best of games but it's pretty good for free and not a bad interim game.

It was #3 on my Top Ten when I stopped writing the column. I would suggest the OP try it, too.

Sorry, I was directing that at the OP, not to you...I figured you had already heard about it.

My time waiting will be spent between WoW, AoC, Morrowind, and Oblivion. I might give Aion a try also. I have yet to get burned out on WoW since I first started playing it like two months ago haha.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check 'em out, but odds are I'll just play Shadow of Colossus a bunch of times. :P

I thought about going back into FFXI, but then I remembered the reasons why I decided to quit for good. It's an endless grind, takes up too much time that I don't have, and the jobs after a while end up all feeling the same. It was an amazing game when it was all about discovering new things, but today it all follows a set system. You have certain places you're SUPPOSED to go to level, you have certain equipment you HAVE to wear for certain jobs, you have to have a specific subjob. It's all so set in stone and I can't stand it. The only exception was Beastmaster which was more stressful to level than fun. I know that SE can do so much better in FFXIV and I have high hopes.

My WoW account is still going but I lost interest in that game prettty fast, and I was about to reactivate my FFXI account right before they announced the new FF MMO, and now I don't know what to do lol

If you start playing the last remnant on 360 now, I'm pretty sure the loading times will ensure you CANT complete the game before it comes out. Give it a shot.

I am in the same boat. My WoW account is active, but I will probably cancel. I am actually reinstalling FFXI, while I wait to hear from SE to see if I can get my account going again. In the meantime, I am going to play the FFXI 30 day trial for now until I decide to just keep working on a new character for the time being or try something else.

I am thinking I will play AION when it comes out, until FFXIV comes out.

Sorry I should have mentioned. Whenever I had bought FFXI on the Xbox 360, I already had an active account that I was playing on the PC. I only used the ToU reg code since I had the other xpacs already, which left me with an unused reg code for FFXI, RoZ, and CoP. I used these codes for now. If I decide to keep playing, I will just go pick up the WoG xpac.

I'm wondering if I'll even pick up a copy of XIII...
there can't be more than a few months in between the two games release.. or at least between XIII and the XIV beta. I kinda think why bother.. maybe i'll pick up XIII after a year or so of playing XIV :-)
Anyone thinking this? or is it sacrilegious?

You have to think that where FFXIII is gonna sell more is in Japan, and it's getting released there this year after summer.

And well, as for occidental releases, FFXIII dated for spring, they could easily release XIV 5-6 months after XIII, which is enough time.

I think I'm going to be getting Sims 3 personally. I'm just done with WoW. It hit me abruptly too. One day I was like meh, I like WoW but I'm just a little bored, then FFXIV announcement and I remembered all the things I loved about FFXI that WoW doesn't have (mainly gear look! What the **** is up with all the new weapons looking like ****???) and I just felt tired with it. I did do naxx yesterday though, my guild has managed to get into a coalition group to do heroic naxx and we have it down to around 2.5 hours, which is pretty amazing considering it's a group of about 6 from one guild, 6 from another and the rest PUGs that we like and asked to come back.

I'm the same. I'm currently looking for something to do till it comes out. I've played most of the p2p and f2p games, but was thinking of giving Atlantica Online another go. The turn based stuff is kinda addicting.
