I am quite excited to hear about this new coming release. FFXI just got kinda bored seeing how it has been 7yrs old - and counting!

In fact, the best times in FFXI was when I just started out - other NAs just started out too - and everyone knew nothing about it. ppl would randomly invite each other in the field and explore new areas together, not knowing/afraid of entering areas where you shouldn't really be - there was the excitement in that. The servers/towns were just more lively as you get new players coming in everyday and bustling with ppl.

The game environment just got more boring as you see the same old ppl everyday, mostly afk in the towns, and all new characters were either mules of gilsellers. things changed from excitement to annoying grinds after a few years. friends also started to leave the game and such.

I am eagerly waiting for the new release so I can experience the real "adventure" behind the MMORPG like I had when I stepped foot in vana'diel.

Ever since my friend woke me up from a good deep sleep, I've been on these boards, on the net trying to dig up all the info I can, watching the trailer over and over, planning out my schedule so that i'll have ready(no ps3 yet) and setup to just bring home the game and begin my adventure, thinking of what would be cool in a new FFmmo and trying to tell myself it wont be out till 2010 but failing at relaxing my inner urge to wanting to be able log in for the first time w/ my newly creatd char.

I'm both excited and a bit afraid as you can see on the boards as I defend XI w/ all my mite from teh meanies who want my escape to be a more casual experience, that my beutiful dream of a FINAL FANTASY ONLINE game thats moving more and more towards perfection will never come to me.

P.S. I am excited though...no matter what im an addict and come 2010, I'll need my fix.

It's not about escaping from everything FFXI had, it's about taking the problems FFXI had and the good things it had and working accordingly. When FFXI was made, there was no WoW or Age of Conan or LOTRO to help them make their opinion of what the people want, and those games are nice in certain ways because you can hop on regardless of your schedule, play for an hour, accomplish something, and log off. In FFXI if you didn't have 4+ hours to spare, you were practically wasting your time being on. Is it so wrong to appeal to both audiences and allow for extended and short gameplay?

Meanie out.

According to SE if you only have 40 min to play each day you can enjoy the game, although I’m not sure what exactly that relates to. If I compare a bit to WoW then that amount of time would compare to solo xp, doing a few quests or going for PvP before logging off after 40 min. My guess is we will only see solo xp/skill/level up and questing solo. SE has said there won’t be any PvP system so we can rule that out.

I agree with you 100% That first year of FFXI was the best time I have ever had in any MMO I've played. No other held a candle like FFXI did. I quit 4 years ago and have been playing WoW off and on since, but I always missed the good ole days on FFXI. I missed that sense of "adventure" that only FFXI brought.

Needless to say, like everyone on this board I am excited about FFXIV. I've been waiting a long time and knew that SE was going to make FFXIV a MMO; I had a feeling. We all have ideas, thoughts and opinions on the what the game is going to be like. No matter what ends up being the final product, I believe SE is going to deliver an Epic MMO!

No they didn't. They just said they were considering options for it at a later time, and that they weren't fond of "PK".

That's right - they just don't want people getting in duals and dead bodies strewn all over the place like we have in WoW. PvP can be fun, but it's a bit extreme in WoW and could be toned down a bit.

I expect there will at some point be arenas where we can pit our skills against each other, but I wouldn't hold my breath on them giving it a whole lot of attention.

Getting run to the Dunes for the first time by a Lv60 DRG, watching my buddy get one-shot by the rare pop on the boat (couldn't stop laughing!)...

Running to Jueno(sp) for the first time... running for my life, lol...

Getting Lv30 with my first job...

Buying my scorpion harness after WEEKS of farming...

FFXI was amazing at first, 10x better than WOW in regards to "the first time expirences". Let us hope that FFXIV is the same =)

Let's see...

Trying to talk to the NPC in the first cutscene. Didn't work.

Being run to Konschtat Highlands and realizing when the guy left that I was so very, very lost.

30WAR/11WHM with a great sword.

Grouping for the first time...only to run to Dangruf Wadi and get school'd by an angry gobbie.

Realizing bunnies from FFXI = Bosses from any other FF game.

NPCing everything and throwing away beastmen seals because I couldn't >.>

I started during the event with the sakura trees all over. So when the event ended I thought my game was broken.

hmm

Finishing installing and updating on my PS2 and listening to playonline log me in.

Trying to figure out what to do after the initial cutscene finished and realizing i didn't know what was going on.

My first guild i picked up random and learned everything from.

Making it to Yhutunga jungle and chaining mandy's with all the other N/A players that just started.

Seeing a chain of gobs running through yhoator and watching everyone start running knowing they would just come right back

God... as much as it was hard it really was awesome...

Oh god yeah I tossed those beast seals as well... didn't have a clue what it was for.

I was a meleeing RDM haha RDM/WAR O.o
First time going to Valkurm I was like man how do I ever get back to town, it just seemed so far.

First time in Khazam after the key quests which took me ages.

Best thing actually was the first time I saw serket, and me and everyone around me drop on the ground, as we all watched with open eyes not paying attention to the posion effect.

Those first FFXI days set foot in my memory as well and yeah not a single mmo can tip it even closely.

HAHAHA! I remember a time I was in a party and two RMT linkshells where fighting over Serket, they keep training mobs to each other. The funny thing was they get him down to 1% and both RMT shells wiped! In the end some group killed him. It was funny as ****.
